What type of foam do you use? Where do you find are the best places to find large foam blocks? What type of adhesive is best to use to glue blocks together before coating them? Much appreciated!
You can use the original Gorilla Glue for Styrofoam. A word of caution - it foams up a little, so you have to hold the blocks together while it cures. If you use it, use it sparingly. You only need enough to "color" the foam surface. I use a plastic spreader to smear a very thin layer on one surface and then mist water on the other. The glue is moisture cured so a damp surface actually promotes curing (you don't want it dripping wet, just damp). If you go with this glue, experiment a little before doing a big project. Another glue I've been told works well is Foam Fusion. I haven't used it yet so I can't say good or bad.
Lovng this concept to make your own and not spend much money, plus it's fun. I am a interior designer and love challenges that are beautiful. I don't care for the music playing, anxiety!
Do know how much weight these can hold? I was thinking of making a couple of these for my front yard to put some planter on top of them. I am concerned that the styrofoam might degrade over time and make them collapse. Anyone have an opinion about this?
Great question! You have to apply the mud at least 2 inches for good strength. Putting AR glass fiber in the hard coat adds extra protection. You'll be able to do jumping jacks on it.
Seems an awful lot of work for a fake rock. I use large size polystyrene, cover top and sides with tile grout mixed with pva glue. While still soft i sprinkle builders sand on top and sides and leave to dry. Spray painted shades of grey and mouldy green they’ve sat in my garden over 2 years just fine. I also sometimes soak old fabric in pva glue and drape over plastic waste til i shape it rock like, paint when dry. I dont weatherproof them, they seem ok.
But are they museum quality…hyper realistic? This man is showing you an art, not some backyard garden decoration and you must take that into consideration.

@@josephb3147 EXCUSE ME I did not complain about the GREAT Video I only explained about the Background music... YOU need to Re-Read my comment before bashing me...
THE ROCK LOOKS GREAT. THE IMPORTANT PART . TITLE SAYS FROM START TO FINISH. THE VIDEO STARTS WITH PUTTING ON THE FINISH COAT OF WHAT, MORTAR? NOT A THING ABOUT START AS IN FORM IT, WITH WHAT, HOW, A MORTAR, OR CONCRETE FINISH, ?? THE TITLE SHOULD SAY, WHAT A FAKE ROCK LOOKS LIKE, AT LEAST THIS ONE.
According to the Wentworth classification (1924) the lower limit of the boulder grain size is 25.6cm. A small boulder is 25.6-51.2cm, a medium boulder 51.2cm-102.4cm, a large boulder 102.4-204.8cm and a very large boulder is anything larger than that.
The irony for me is that our land is littered with thousands of sandstone boulders like this and Im currently working on lathing/sculpting them. You obv did a great job cuz it looks legit thats why I clicked lol 🤙
Outstanding technique ... short and to the point. Well done!
Thank you kindly!
Everything we need to know... right there in this video... I can't thank you enough... I have seen many videos this is the best
Love this! Start to finish foam core cement boulder. Show us some coloring next?

Would this be suitable for outside? I want to make a large catio so that it resembles a lions lair .
Yes! All materials used are built for outdoor masonry:)

what brand is that AR glass scrim? I can't find it in amazon. Tks
Visit Trinic llc, they sell it
Just curious, how strong are these? If pets jump on them or kids, will they break easily? This is an awesome video. Thank you for your work.
Thanks for the kind words! Very strong...even at the scracth coat level...a 300lb human could stand on it and not cause any stress fractures.

How much was to make this rock? tx
Great Question
Have you got an answer yet...???
No but I went to Universal rock online and I got a full waterfall with a discount (holiday) for like $2k and free shipping@@JudiChristopher
Well done!
Thanks!!
Wonderful!what do you mean when you say 50 pound of Portland cement?Do you mean 50 pounds of Type S mortar mix?
Thanks in advance
Yes, Portland Cement, not mortar mix.
@@RockSculptor ok,Thanks.
So there is no sand in the mix?
@josephhorvath810 Yes, there is sand in mix. Generally 1.5 parts sand to 1 part Cement ratio
@@RockSculptor thanks!
How long is the mix usable after it is mixed up?
please let me know. Thanks very much!!

NO BACKGROUND MUSIC...
I had to MUTE this just to WATCH IT...
but you did such a Beautiful Job...
Love the ROCK... Not the Background NOISE/Music
Whatever... this was the best straight forward DIY video for making fake rocks on TH-cam and you complain

Wow/ Great job... Very talented guy obviously.
Very nice I just don't have the patience anymore.looks real that's a good thing!
Could this be submerged in a pool?
Yes. Coat the entire thing
Great video.!! Even greater when I muted it.
Is there a shortage of boulders and rocks? Asking for a friend!
In some areas, there are:)
No, but there is a shortage of virtually weightless rocks and boulders. Heard from a friend.
Greetings and Salutations
I have a weaving technique that is what brought me here 😊
The music makes it unbearable.
I disagree
Sorry but i had to mute the backgrd music to watch. Perhaps a more soothing music wud be better.
agree
Kill the music and just voice over the text instructions.
needs more cowbell
Wow that’s the best fake rock on the internet 👍
WOW!! Thank you kindly for that!

woow
Music horrible choice. Muted. Good technique except you 10x the video speed and we can't really watch the technique well.
Beautiful but…. Time consuming if need a # of stones👍
YES... but have you asked if someone else does it... it cost HUNDREDS of Dollars... each.
That's a good rock
Good job though!
Wow that music sure sucks, can’t watch!too bad, it looked like a nice video otherwise.
Music is annoying!
If this video doesn't get likes and the channel doesn't get subscribers, it's because of the music. Just voice over the instructions instead...
Thankyou!!
Styrofoam is expensive
Had to stop. The music was terrible. But thanks.
I hit subkrib button hardly
If I may speak freely, great job😊 , terrible music 😢
that's a ROCK not a boulder just like the channel name. Boulders are frucken big compared
