One of my favorite projects of all time and I'm glad you're getting to it. No skips for me and continues to inspire my own music and creative endeavors. Zay's lyrics aren't always easy to get on first listen but that's one of the fun parts about listening to him
I’m one of his biggest fans and it still takes me a long time to understand him 😂 I don’t even get into his albums at first , but like you said !! The good thing about listening to him.. he’s layered , his music, his words .. his message .. ugh he’s brilliant
One of the greatest hip hop albums of all time. Nothing else sounds like it and I really hope Zay returns to this dark, emotional, grimy and raw feel one day!
nice . This album changed my life lowkey . TDE were like super saiyans back than. The overdubs (layered vocals) in this album changed the way I approach mixing
Not very far into the video yet but I'm glad you're talking about his voice and vocal inflection. I think he's one of the more earnestly emotive rappers I've heard. That and his flow are his biggest strengths to me, he's a really good writer but the whole package expresses a lot more than the lyrics alone do, especially the more you revisit it (and I revisited it A LOT as a college freshman who was horribly depressed and getting into weed lol, so I have a lot of memories attached to it now). A lot of other hip-hop projects that have stronger qualities than this, but when it comes to just how much it resonates with me emotionally and how much beauty it contains in my eyes, I don't know if anything can match it.
I probably was the first to tell u about this album it was like a year ago. I love this album sm had this on my playlist when i went to Africa at 14 yrs old brings back sm memories 🙌🏾 it really matched the vibe of Africa
Finally! I’ve been waiting for this reaction for so long. One of my favorite albums of all time, it means so much to me. I know it’s gonna take a while but The Sun’s Tirade and The House is Burning are amazing as well.
This is a great album. Probably his best work to date. I slept on Rashad for a while. My introduction to him was The Sun’s Tirade album. Absolutely loved that album. Immediately had to listen to this. Glad Isaiah Rashad is getting more attention. He definitely deserves it.
Been hoping for this reaction for a while; this is one of my favourite albums oat. Funny hearing at the beginning the comments about the album being all over the place. I think the pacing and track order work really well for the project. I'd be interested to hear your take on it now you've listened to it.
Glad you’re getting into Zaywop. He played this whole album on tour last week in San Diego, was a great show! he got some fans up on stage and was giving out water bottles as well
Also, 'Guwop' is a nickname for rapper Gucci Mane, who was notorious for being in and out of jail all the time for doing some dumb shit. He has since turned his life around.
So glad you listened to this! this record came out in my senior year of highschool and really helped me get through some rough times. Not as big on Isaiah's later work but this one really holds up well even after all these years.
I love how you explained that you don’t always see the artist perspective and you may be over critical at times. Having that understanding is necessary while doing reactions like this and I appreciate you noticing the importance of that.
19:20 a bar of rap is one full line. Most verses consist of 16 bars. He's talking about spitting a 22 bar verse, because he says after he'll save that for when he's touring. It's also referring to spitting a .22 pistol
Super stoked you’re digging into his work! Can’t believe this album is 10 already. Sometimes rapping is just talking shit, vibing out, and feeling yourself. Webbie Flow feels like he’s on that fun and manic braggadocio vibe, and I think it’s more about the feeling of the cadence and the energy he’s bringing, and less about lyrical analysis. Not sure if digging deeper into those lyrics would yield the return on investment some other tracks would. Just how I feel about certain songs in music in general. Music isn’t always about intellectualizing the lyricism, sometimes it’s more about feeling, vibing, and sensing the artist’s “shine”.
Its very unique in Hereditary he talks about things that his daddy taught him (presumably by NOT being present) "taught me i dont need nobody" "taught me how to leave somebody." "How to drink my pain away " Etc.
This album and The Suns Tirade are 2 albums I hold very close to my heart. I would love you to listen to The Suns Tirade and The House is Burning when you get the chance to🫶🏼
i listen to this jawn back wen i was a freshman in high school and at tha time i never really related to a body of work, but tha feeling from this just stuck wit me, and now im 22 going on 23, adulting and now it REALLY connects wit me…which is crazy
about damn time bobert 😂 hopefully the TDE backlog gets sorted thru a bit more this year some gahdamn great albums in there still to get too. all in due time tho no rush boss man
LETS GO, Isiah makes music for the vibers man, he’s a mix of a little bit of chill rap shit and rapping about real shit about his life and stuff. This shit radiated with me in my early twenties man, really just felt like I connected with his sound and the shit he was rappin about: weed, hoes, and home troubles lol. I hope you enjoy it Bob 🔥
The lyrics of Tranquility are probably the most interesting on the whole album. I believe the line “they kill for a blessing” could be interpreted that these figures have killed to benefit themselves, but also in Christianity, the death of Jesus is seen as gift, dying on the cross to wash away our sins. So when he says “thank god for the shooter” it’s because without the shooter, Jesus wouldn’t have died for our sins. He’s thanking God for creating the shooter, who in turn has blessed us. Him saying “they came from the heavens” is throwing out the question wether or not they are truly evil for their actions, if killing Jesus was actually a part of gods plan. There’s definitely more to take away from some of the lines but I love how he wrote that hook.
This is actually my favorite album of all times and I think the best album of all time. Of course illmatic, #LTM, Control systems, and cheat codes are close seconds. You should check out long terms mentally by ab soul
FINALLY!!!! This is one of my favorite albums ever. Isaiah has always felt like one of the more self-aware and relatable artists out there, imo. His 2nd album, The Sun's Tirade, is also a great listen. Hope you can get around to that one eventually as well.
Holy shit I was literally just thinking about West Savannah, hopped on YT and saw you reacted to this. Please do Sun’s Tirade next, one of my favorite albums of all time
Absolutely love this album. The way he mixes his vocals is so creative, how he has like a laid back slurring take at the forefront and a hype one in the background. Love this guy Edit: breaking bad series reaction on patreon coming soon?
FINALLY !! SUNS TIRADE NEXT PLZ
My favorite Isaiah album

@@bobthepoppop love to hear it 🙌🏾don't forget to vibe out too, that's the other great part (and even more-so on his future albums)

Tbh i hope he doesn’t. He is in a way better place now

I miss that era, those stacked rap vocals on songs made for some of the best songs rhythmically and sonically

This album, and a Sun’s tirade, have both saved my life countless times; no exaggeration. Forever grateful for Isaiah
This warms my heart Bob. This album had such an effect during my teenage years
I imagine it's an incredible album to have in your ears at that time in life

Love how raw this album is, this and the mixtape Pieces of a Kid are both amazing
Literally screamed when I saw this video in my notifications; my favorite artist 🫂

Stone cold classic in my eyes. Shot You Down is both uplifting and depressing at the same time. One of my favorite hip hop songs of the last decade.
