    Im the person who bought the chamber of chills 19 for $18,000. I bought it because it’s one of the best presenting 5.0 I’ve seen. The fact that it was graded by CBCS didn’t affect how much I bid versus if it had been in a CGC slab. I truly bought the book and not the grade or the brand of slab. Will I cross it over to CGC? Maybe, but I have to wonder if it’s worth paying them $800+ to do so.

    It's hilarious.....don't use CBCS because of sales but continue to use CGC despite, fraud of a variety orders, inferior slabs that damage books, grading invisible books, scandal after scandal after scandal.....I'm convinced the people who continue to support CGC and detract from CBCS are 100% purely in this hobby for the investment. They are not collectors....they don't love the medium. Its 100% about the ROI.....Let's just say it out loud....CGC are for dealers, sellers, money people period. If comic collecting ever bottoms out, these people are gone. They could not care less about the actual hobby. CBCS, which is superior to CGC in every single way that should matter to collectors is virtually completely ignored. The comic hobby is made up of two types....opportunists and collectors. The opportunists worship at the CGC altar....the collectors use CBCS.

      @max_1955 You have extremely low expectations and standards if you think that because CGC is the marketshare leader they're allowed to have deliberate fraudulent scandals. What a complete joke to suggest CGC has clearer slabs than CBCS. Even if you excluded the high percentage of oil slick newton ringed CGC slabs....CBCS's slabs are miles ahead superior in every single way to CGC's. CGC is much much closer to PGX in every way except for resale sale.....they share the same or similar business ethics...slabs are similar. Yeah, CBCS is definitely the collectors grader....CGC is for flippers/dealers.

      Very well said. I believe CBCS will jump leaps and bounds in the coming year or two. Same is already happening in the trading card space. It was all PSA for years but now CGC is selling on par and even better in some cases and there aren't nearly as many advantages there as there are here between these brands. CBCS runs circles around this trash and actually cares about their quality and service.

    You should not be telling people to not submit to CBCS because there are people who like to submit to them for certain reason other then just for sales. The quality that they give is much better then CGC and their slabs are much much better. First you make videos on CGC and their quality of control, the scams, and now the 9.9 manipulation of the market then you come out with this video so where are you going? We know CBCS doesnt have the most value but by telling your audience to not submit to CBCS contradicts your other videos and does not make you look convincing in your arguments now. Whats next dont submit to PGX? Wait we already know that we dont need a 30 minute video on it lol

      I’m not going anywhere with it. I give people my opinions based on what I see. You seem to think I have some agenda on one company or another. I don’t. I’m not trying to convince anyone one way or the other. I’m just giving the information I have and stating why I use CGC over cbcs.
      Plus, many people don’t know that cbcs sells for less, I have people tell me I’m wrong when I say that all the time. So the purpose of this video was to give additional context for that.
      Also, as I’ve said in other comments, just because there’s an issue with a company doesn’t make them instantly evil and can’t be used. If that was the case you can’t use cbcs either. They’ve had plenty of issues as well (which people seem to conveniently forget).
      Lastly, right at the beginning of this video I said you may want to submit to cbcs for other reasons, but financially, this is why I don’t submit to them.

    The book is the book regardless of the plastic that it is encased in. It’s the market that dictates every book’s value when it comes to auction.
    Your take that the grading company has significant influence is a flawed premise. As a business owner, you do you.. but trying to influence in such a jaded way is questionable at the very least and IMO, does little to support the community.
    Comps are nothing more than a picture in time and do not take anything more than that into account.. not today’s market, not the audience, not one person’s want or the book’s desirability.
    The slab and the grade assigned is next to irrelevant to any educated collector. I, personally prefer to purchase raw and “grade” with my own eyes.. so I can see more than just the outer covers. I will then assign value based on what I’m willing to pay.
    A fool and their money are quickly parted.

    As a collector, I have taken advantage of the CBCS "discount" many times, so I have several in my own collection. Selling them is not fun, I have had to do it a couple of times when I upgraded the books.
    IMHO CBCS cases is just better quality - I find them superior to CGC's.
    It's the market that needs to accept CBCS - but that's probably a question of the chicken or the egg? We as buyers should prove it to get the dealers on board, but we need the dealers to prove it? I don't know.
    The next thing, is CBCS even as a company ready to have the push lets just say 20% of the business from CGC got to them, I doubt it - to prepare for scale is not an easy task, especially in a company that's as dependent on manual labor with specialised skillset.
    I have speculated for quite a while CBCS could have an opening to get a foot in from a different angle which CGC doesn't take serious. A real office in Europe where it's no just a sending stuff to the US, and not being in the UK...

    You're seriously just hilarious at this point. It's dealers taking your attitude right here that's the problem. You even said the HUGE difference in supply available. We're all sick of CGC I'm not going to take the time to list the vast amount of issues and scandals and market manipulation tactics they've done because we all know them. It's this attitude of cowardice that keeps the market from shifting. I applaud big dealers like Blue Chip keys finally taking a stand and making a switch so we can just have more available. Until more dealers start to make the switch and give us buyers more of a supply of course CGC is always going to have the advantage. You and other dealers that are too much of cowards to make the switch is empowering CGC to keep up with their poor performance and business tactics. You sir are exemplifying the real.problem with the values not changing by your lack of will to stand together with other dealers like Blue Chip keys to force a shift in the market. It's lazy and cowardly.

      Also I’d be pretty interested to see what his actual submission numbers are. I bet they’re very very low compared to what he sends to CGC. All he said was he sends more there now than before. If he’s hardly ever used them before, that number could be very small. But people hear what they want to hear.

    • @darrickforsberg8510
      @darrickforsberg8510 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      People hear what they want to hear just like you read what you wanted to read. You know exactly what I was getting at and you conveniently don't address it. Do you think ppl will stop buying graded comics if the only graded comics available are CBCS? The supply and availability are a HUGE issue. You and other dealers are the supply and us as buyers are the demand. If dealers get together and switch the supply to CBCS then our demand will obviously have to shift because the supply would be more available. The numbers are all so heavily favored by CGC and keep growing because the supply is abundantly CGC. You know something collectors like is uniformity so yes that plays into this. You want to talk about all the high sales of CGC vs CBCS all the time what about the LOWEST sales of all time I would be willing to bet the ALL time lowest sales are heavily in CGC's favor over CBCS which means ppl got deals on some CGC slabs so then their uniformity brain kicks in when they already have so many CGC slabs that now when they do.stumble across the rare CBCS slab they don't consider it. All you reveal when you do these type of videos is how cowardly dealers like yourself are the real one's that keep giving CGC all their power over our hobby because you're unwilling to make the switch to start to flip the supply issue. Why don't you look at all the all time low sales and see if the numbers are heavily CBCS vs CGC? Oh wait cuz it would expose exactly what I'm talking about that those lowest all time numbers are also in CGC's favor and cowardly dealers like yourself are the real problem from making a real change and meaningful difference.

      @@jorgedacunha2676 yeah the facts are CGC have the majority of the highest but they also have a majority of the LOWEST no one talks about that. The bottom line is the SUPPLY is overwhelming CGC and when there's more available they'll get more eyes on them and more sales are made. This is simple math and averages. If you're not looking at the complete equation you give ppl a narrative that can suit whatever message you want to convey. He clearly is too cowardly to stand with other dealers and make the switch to bring more supply to the collectors. Therefore CGC will just keep up their poor business practices because dealers like him are too cowardly to make a meaningful difference by switching. We all know it's the dealers that are doing the majority of the grading business so until THEY make a change things will not get better for collector's.

      What graders notes? a lot of their books don't have them. How many videos have you seen where someone did a live unboxing and was disappointed in the grade. They go to the graders notes to find out why, and guess what, no graders notes. CBCS has always had theirs up front with the QR code. CGC finally copied it, but they still don't have graders notes.

    I have a few CGC and CBCS books. I don't think you people even get it when is comes to comics, especially back issues. Real collectors never sell their books because they have sentimental value, not monetary value. Second, slabbed books are NOT found in the comic book price guide and are therefore the same price as non slabbed books. Where you people get the notion that are not the same price means you've been duped. Slabbed books are the biggest farce in history and is only good for protecting older books. Duh🙄

Also waiting to see what cbcs does in answer to cgc all of a sudden raising the bar to 9.9 and in my opinion in 5 years doing the same with 10.0.
    I just wonder what the value of 9.8 will be when 9.9s start hitting the market. Any dealers holding 9.8 s of big books are sweating right now!

    if you have a valuable book, you use the grading company that is going to allow you to retain the maximum value. if you like buying a book and then putting it in a slab that instantly loses you 35% of its value, knock yourself out.
    yes, cgc screwed up. every company screws up. think about how well cbcs would do if they had ten times the volume to deal with. a lot of you seem to think ryan is “pushing cgc” on you. he is not. he’s explaining the economics of buying and selling high value comics.

    If you want to play the stock market, play the stock market. If you want to collect comics, collect comics, BUT DON'T MIX THE TWO UP. I went through the implosion of the collectable market back in the late seventies, and I'm watching the exact same thing happen now. Do you honestly believe that someone will give a rats butt about some especially created thing OR Variants upon Variants upon Variants from a convention a decade down the road. Instant collectables are a joke and will come back to haunt you as OLD is GOLD and always will be. I believe that CBCS is doing exactly what you're paying them to do and they're doing a really good job at it. I'd trust they're appraisal of the grade WAY more than I'd trust CBG because they've got a dog in this fight, STINKS LAST FOREVER.

    If you can still grade a book, 'beyond the number in the top-left corner and grader notes', after it has been slabbed, by whichever company, then why would any, buyer or bidder, lose or win, big on any book? The one thing I am slightly confused about is, how is there a 'trend' from a book that sells once a year, over the last three or four years. Anyhow, decent video, in a quick look at some discrepancies.

    You are correct, and the evidence has been supporting this for a while now. Facts are facts. Preferences aside numbers don't lie. If you are buying and selling, then CGC is the best way to ensure your book sells for the best price. Even if you have no intention on selling now, it just makes more sense to have what will better retain value in the long run. I would like to see a video similar to this for sales of major Silver Age grails CBCS compared to CGC. It is funny how people say prove it, and then when you show evidence then it's more "you're part of the problem" 😂. We are collectors and don't really buy with the intent to sell, but that doesn't mean stuff can't happen. When you're putting money into things, it just makes more sense to use CGC.

  • @petereddy7633

    Do you realize that by making this video, you continue to solidify the notion CBCS books are worth less? The idea that grading CBCS is for personal collections, but books to sell are sent to CGC is part of the problem. As long as people are told "CBCS books sell for less money." They will continue to sell for less money. Until everyone stops looking at the grading company and start looking at the books for what they think they're worth, this IDEA will continue.
    You went through the CBCS books that you thought would draw some decent prices and then valued them based on what you thought they were worth. If you really wanted to be unbiased you could have done the same with CGC books. Did any of them sell for less than you thought? We will never know. I was really surprised when you said the Journey into Mystery was probably over graded. Don't you think that might have had an influence on the price? Some of those books had the god awful cases and labels that not even a die hard CBCS fan would want. Don't you think that could have had an influence on the price?
    Please stop propagating the notion that CBCS books are worth less. Can't we just slab books to protect them and to enjoy the art on the covers and not worry about who graded them! Buy the books you love and stop worry about who graded it.

    • @AutomaticComics
      @AutomaticComics  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      People ask me where they should send their books to get graded. If the reason is for resale, the answer is CGC. I’m not going to lie and say anything different just to make the CGC haters happy. Facts are facts.
      Also, I do that with CGC books nearly every week when I make my market recap videos, and I did it for years in my earlier videos on my channel when I did evaluations of sales data every week.
      Also I didn’t cherry pick any cbcs books I thought would draw attention. If you actually watched my video, which I’m guessing you didn’t, I did every cbcs book that was in this auction.
      But I’m aware it’s pretty pointless at this point to talk with you guys. You all just want to hate everything CGC and anything positive about them makes me a shill. So either learn from the information or keep staying angry 🤷‍♂️

    • @petereddy7633
      @petereddy7633 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@AutomaticComics You are absolutely wrong. I watched every minute of your video. I am not a CGC hater. I am trying to point out that as long as people keep saying CBCS books sell for less than CGC, they always will. I did not mean to imply that you are a CBCS hater. People that are haters will not look at any positive aspects of CBCS. They will always look at the negative. I wish everyone would stop looking at the company logo on the slab and look at the book in the slab. Does it appeal to you? Is it a book you want to add to your collection? Is the price within a range that you find comfortable to spend your money on?
      I realize that you do show evaluations on CGC books on regular basis. My point was, you didn't do it as a comparison with this auction. Auction prices vary from auction to auction. To make your point of the lower prices on CBCS books, wouldn't it have been fair to show how CGC books in the same auction performed. As an example did you value the FF #48 at $63,000? That's a pretty low price based on its last sale of $96,000 three months ago. Auction prices vary and book prices will rise and fall based on the person who bids on it.
      I have several CGC and CBCS books in my collection. I buy the book not the grade or grading company. People need to stop taking this so seriously. It's not life and death. Both companies have made mistakes and they will continue to make mistakes.My point from the beginning is, a value of a book should be based on what you are willing to pay no matter if it's graded by CGC, CBCS or raw! Collect what you like and don't worry about what the plastic surrounding it says. Slabs are to protect a book and give a fair estimate of its grade. Not determine its value. The buyer always determines the value.

    • @AutomaticComics
      @AutomaticComics  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@petereddy7633 my history with accuracy pricing comics is sufficient for this video. But like I said, I know that no matter what I said, I was going to get this kind of pushback. If I picked CGC books I would be accused of picking books that overperformed. Or people would expect me to price all 600+ CGC comics that sold (which just isn’t going to happen). It’s a no win situation.
      Also, if you watched the recent comicconnect auction you would know that a 9.8 FF48 sold for $66k. And that when that FF48 sold in January I commented that it was a very very high price and that I thought the book should be much lower. So no, that sale didn’t surprise me, I think it’s actually still too high by a lot.
      And you’re right, the buyer does determine the value. And that’s the whole point of this video. The buyers have determined that on average, cbcs books sell for less than CGC. Just like PGX sell for less than both.
