I should go through my old optical disk. I literally have them sitting right next to me and haven't bothered going through them in years. I think they're mostly blanks which I'll keep around in case I want to update an old computer or make a backup copy of a DVD for a relative that still uses DVD's.

Tbf those Disney VHS cases are really nice, you never see padding like that on most other cases. I'd just flip the label card and use it for any special tapes.

It's really rare you come across an entire box/bin of stuff that should just be thrown away but hadn't been. It's always a bunch of stuff I kept for a reason, with maybe just a few things I don't want or need anymore.
Once when I was a kid my dad left an orange tape in the machine and the second I started to play it (wondering what it was) my dad came rushing into the room in a panic and violently pushed me away from the TV ripping the tape out of the VCR. . . . . . I wonder what that was all about? 😉

I wholeheartedly agree with Connections by James Burke. I end up watching all three series plus The Day The Universe Changed every 2 years or so. There is nothing quite like it in the history of television.
This reminded me so much of when the writers went on strike and Conan spent 5 minutes spinning his wedding ring on the desk, for the sake of content. Hilarious and entertaining, I greatly appreciated this.

Ah, floppies: I work in IT, and there are *still* major companies out there using computers that use floppies, and occasionally I'm called upon to create one with some utility or another to accomplish a configuration task. So, I reach for my pile of recyclable floppies to create one on demand. (Yes, I still need a USB floppy drive, and it is, indeed a challenge to create most of the vintage diskettes on a Windows 10 system, since the utilities themselves are 16 bit!) So, why can't I just save the floppies I created years ago? Because they go bad kicking around in my laptop bag waiting for that once every year or two need. Usually they go bad because the metal hub in the center of the diskette comes unglued. So, I pull a diskette out of the pile and do a full format with Windows, and throw away all disks that fail until I get a good one. Then, I create what I need (sometimes I have to find a Linux machine and use dd to copy an image), get myself out of that situation and forget about it until the next customer needs an EISA Configuration Utility floppy for a Digital Equipment Corp. AlphaServer from 1995, or something else, and I have to re-learn and figure out how am I going to do that with the system I have now? You'd be surprised at how much critical infrastructure still depends on equipment with floppies! And I don't have a Windows XP machine anymore. (By the way, I don't want your floppies, I still have plenty!)
I had to laugh at "one tub". Oh, how I long for the days when I didn't have hundreds of tubs and three storage units.... The tubs of materials and electronics parts I keep in my room are all absolutely necessary.... honest! And yet I still had to buy a switch, a fuse holder and fuses on line to complete the latest project. Grrrr!

For a very short period of time, they were popular for business cards. Some of them were even "clipped" into a semi-rectangular shape so they'd fit in business-card-holders.

I know what you're going through. I had about a 1.5" thick stack of the labels that came with blank floppies. Both 3.5 and 5.25. It took me years to finally throw them away. I still regret doing so but I don't know why. They were still perfectly good. Maybe I should have just mailed them to LGR.
This reminds me of the fact that I have a whole bunch of old books that my dad told me to sort earlier this week, and for some reason I haven't yet, even though I've been home the whole time...

Hot tip (2 years later, ha) store functional things in broad categories so you can always find things without knowing exactly where they are. Nostalgia is hard, unless an item makes you feel litteral bodily happiness you don't need it and you'll never miss it.
To answer your floppies question - vintage computer enthusiasts still use them. Recently I found myself blasting through a collection of blank floppies, creating new startup, diagnostic and driver disks. Old floppies degrade over time, so having spares around is immensely helpful. I know that there are ways around this, but still, they're not perfect.

You need to put the stuff on eBay. Some nerd (like me) will say "wow, I have been looking for that for 6 months" and it's so close, but they can't have it.
Surprisingly interesting video actually. If you were to make more of these I would watch them. And you mentioned possibly making a video of you going through old optical media, I think that'd be an interesting watch too.
I know what you're going through. I had about a 1.5" thick stack of the labels that came with blank floppies. Both 3.5 and 5.25. It took me years to finally throw them away. I still regret doing so but I don't know why. They were still perfectly good.
Maybe I should have just mailed them to LGR.
I used mine to label other things. I had floppy disk labels on everything! VHS labels too.
These videos always unlock old forgotten memories of mine and I love it.
You can place the colored VHS behind the colored music cassettes on the wall behind you (maybe getting rid of the wooden box).

This reminds me of the fact that I have a whole bunch of old books that my dad told me to sort earlier this week, and for some reason I haven't yet, even though I've been home the whole time...
One catches an interesting book, and goes an hour and a half of sorting time, reading.

Hot tip (2 years later, ha) store functional things in broad categories so you can always find things without knowing exactly where they are. Nostalgia is hard, unless an item makes you feel litteral bodily happiness you don't need it and you'll never miss it.

To answer your floppies question - vintage computer enthusiasts still use them. Recently I found myself blasting through a collection of blank floppies, creating new startup, diagnostic and driver disks. Old floppies degrade over time, so having spares around is immensely helpful. I know that there are ways around this, but still, they're not perfect.
