I think a great idea would be a “sounds like” with the actual artist in store. Have them pick out their gear on a budget and see how they get their tone. Would be quite insightful 🎸
That’d be amazing
Do it with like really small local bands
Jack Gilmore But then it wouldnt be as interesting
@@McDoinky would'nt it?
@@CommanderNewton i think the point is more so having the actual artist who wrote the music to pick out the sound on a budget. that way the end user feels like they can buy the right stuff at a better price
Glad you did the innerspeaker sound
Innerspeaker is one of the best albums
@@kadenzook3826 have the vinyl :D ...love it!!!
I wish they had played some stuff off of Lonerism tho
@@wiggledixbubsy98 thats a realy cool spacey song! Dream sounds i love so much!!!
@@kadenzook3826 THE best album
Solitude is bliss actually couldn’t have been more accurate
i agree, but personally if they got an EHX Bad Stone or Small Stone it would've been even closer but still the Phase 95 seemed to get it perfect
That was fantastic! Should have been an EHX Small Stone for the phaser though; that's what Kevin uses, and its also about £30 cheaper than the Phase 95.
Bad Stone I thought
@@wiggledixbubsy98
It's definitely the small stone. I've got one and as soon as you start playing through it and a blues driver, it sounds exactly like the albums. It's normally used with the colour switch off, but on Endors Toi you flick the switch up.
equipboard.com/pros/kevin-parker
@@jackwigg2758 Reverb.com lied to me.
I was surprised the phase 95 sounded close. But pictures of his pedal board actually have a bad stone.
@@spencerstandish9095 his pedalboard has a version 4 small stone, not a bad stone. Bad stone will get you pretty close though.
Would love to hear a Sound Like: Unknown Mortal Orchestra
Seconded!
Sound like UMO, I'd love to hear that!
Tripled!
UMO please!
“Elephant” has always been one of my go-tos when using a fuzz pedal on my bass, that riff is so damn good
King grizzard the lizard wizard!
"Unfortunately we didn't have any flying microtonal bananas in stock so this slightly out of tune squier will do"
@@jonathana7590 they'd probably have to go fretless
@@ey8546 , why?
@@JohnsDough1918 to hit the microtonal notes
King gizzard it's not just microtonal tunes
You should probably do Dinosaur Jr. since you mentioned them its the law
Also would be fun to see (a) what they come up to replicate the sound of J's three full stacks and a Twin; and (b) Matt thrashing away at his bass like Lou.
@@rbrwr - yes, quite. His live sound is certainly something to behold! However I think I remember J saying something about generally using a smallish amp on the albums, with a Tele for rhythm guitars.
What I know is that he uses a Fender Super Champ X2 along with a mini pedalboard for small stuff. So it might even be possible to replicate his proper entire gear in Sound Like! How sweet would that be?
i’ve been suggesting dinosaur jr forever! we need it!
@@pabcrane they having the doc online of them recording Farm. He mics his stacks and fender twin and blends them into one signal.
It sounded exactly right to me, nicely done! Cherry is a reddish wood typically used in higher end, 50's
style Mid Century furniture. It's a beautiful wood actually.
Sounds like it’s King Gizzard time
Or MBV if you ever get round to that
finlay smith yessss
If they did a video in mbv it would be an hour long
I feel like it would be disappointing if they did mbv 😂
MBV tone without breaking the bank is a paradox
The sound on the first track is absolutely perfect, would love a sounds like on at the drive in or bloc party
That first riff you played was absolutely spot on, great job.
KING GIZZARD AND THE LIZARD WIZARD in time for the new album please gents
I didn't think you could do it, but you did. Absolutely nailed it! You did Kevin Parker justice, my fave guitarist/composer.
FINALLY! now do king gizzard, please :)
AHH! A fellow gizz head I see!
@@rollingon5566 eyup
GIVE ME MY VEGEMITE
oh yes babay
That would be awesome but they couldn't do anything from microtonal
There's something about the Jazzmaster that I just LOVE.
Saw Tame Impala in Tokyo in 2016, it was AMAZING!
Mac DeMarco without busting the bank
The cheapest pawn shop guitar, tube amp, and chorus pedal you can find. Done.
I love Mac but his sound isn't a mystery and not really deserving of a spotlight. His playing is far better than any tones he gets.
MrBrawl not chorus - vibrato
Roland Jc120 Tunes easy a bullet mustang and brewers droop chorus, behringer reverb and champion 40- under 500
@@AT02129 No? His primary effect is chorus, along with reverb from amps or effects. You might be thinking of tremolo, as he has recorded with a Vibro Champ amp, which is just a name as it has tremolo for its circuit. He has used the Boss vibrato, but it's far from his primary tone.
MrBrawl check the fender thing he did - outright said he used to record with a chorus effect but would turn the mix all the way down IE having just the altered signal = vibrato.
This "Sounds Like" is THE BEST sounding one you guys have ever done. Not only does the rig sound great but the recording is phenomenal on both bass and guitar!
The bass is Incredibly important in Tame Impala so it would have been cool to see an upto £1500 bass setup specifically for this band.
Gazzy Burns
I agree. He has one of my favorite studio bass tones, on many songs.
Still need to see it!!
Sound like Vulfpeck
Nailed the tones here!
Stumbled across Vulfpeck a few months back and can't stop listening now - supremely funky stuff
Vulfpeck tone is a strat through a clean amp played with Cory Wong’s crazy right hand
Chris Wilbur Vulfpeck tune is strat with clean tone played through Cory Wongs crazy right-hand
@@arvidroos920 Don't forget a healthy dose of Vulf Compressor
Cory Wong on the electric guitar in 4th posistion all night!
Couple of notes:
- Kevin uses a Rickenbacker when he performs live but for recording the albums he uses a Stratocaster.
- Phaser pedal should be first in the chain.
- Need a reverb pedal in the beginning of the chain to help get the fuzz tone you guys were looking for.
That solitude is bliss riff sounded... perfect! OMG
The riff from Solitude is Bliss is, well... BLISS. My favorite riff from the past decade. Also DAMN fellas, you nailed it. 👌🏼
Do King Gizzard, Thee oh sees and Ty Segall
Rory Bowden
Fuzz by Busting the Bank!
😀
Yes yes and yes. It's probably very unlikely that they would do the oh sees they are too niche
Thee Oh Sees would be really easy to do, Dwyer’s pedals are all known and fairly common
the people have spoken you must do the gizz
Sound Like Silversun Pickups Without Busting the Bank
Or
Sound Like Portugal! The Man Without Busting the Bank
Oh true SSPU would be great
Sounds like Silversun Pickups, or The Shins would be awesome!
Silversun Pickups would definitely be interesting to see
Sound like Foals and Wolf Alice!
Yes
Foals, baby!
Definitely Wolf Alice!
Foals next!
Great choices. Both do so many different styles, and sounds, between different albums.
Sounds like Mac demarco and the pixies
Exactly what im listening to at the moment
u deaf
While listening at work, I was on another screen, heard the bass come in, and was like "oh hell, how'd they make a tape machine, blues driver, and compressor sound like it has bass on it?!" flip back, b/c Matt is playing a bass! HA!
Good timing with their tickets going on presale for Dublin today. You can bet I got mine.
Good to have the lads back in the room together. Here's my requests!
- Prince
- Jeff Buckley
- Chuck Schuldiner (Death)
- Chris Isaak!
12ealDeal sound like death, defo
Prince used all Boss pedals, except for his Wah, and a Whammy.
Prince would be awesome
12ealDeal yesss Jeff Buckley would be so good
Prince mainly had a telecaster as well as his weird purple guitar with the floyd but i think a squier telecaster
his amps were Mesa but they're too much for £1500 so i think egnater, fender, maybe boss katana or roland JC40
Boss DS2 is essential, Boss OC3 for when doves cry, a wah for Kiss, a boss RV6, and a CH1 for Purple Rain
FINALLY I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR YEARS FOR THIS
Well you are welcome then :-)
Also you did really well with this one!!
Sound like Ben Howard, specifically Murmurations, The Defeat, I Forget Where We Were, Small Things, Hot Heavy Summer. Some amazing tones and guitar playing
Pretty bloody good tbh, its a tough one and you guys got closer on this one than some other seemingly easier artists. Its been said already but you should have got the Bad/small stone from EHX for the phase. If you did Endors Toi you would have absolutely needed it. If you could have fit it in, the EHX holy grail is a main stay for Kev, used on the hall setting. Plus he almost always has a vibrato going. A really big thing for Kev is order of the pedals, i believe on Innerspeaker and especially lonerism, he changed the order around quite a lot. Other than that, really quite close.
One my favorite videos you guys have made. Sounds great and fun to play and mess around with sounds. Great....now I was frickin buy all those pedals
Sound like the clash
louis cotterell yes please 🙏🙏🙏
Squier Tele for Joe and Epi LP for Mick
Jaye Rone pedals and amps/ settings?
They're very listenable, the greatest accolade any band could want, thanks Matt
Sound like King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
D J which album tho
when you do BY busting the bank please play ELEPHANT!
and Endors Toi
or just anything from Lonerism
Kevin used a reverb pedal into a phaser, the reverb is very important to his tone
Watched this with my first coffee of the day, good start to things
Exactly what I am doing as we speak.
How to sound like Bloc Party, please.
you guys really know how to make gear videos. awesome job, much thanks!!!
maybe consider a video about Pond?
Sound Like, The Cure, Without Busting the Bank
They have to do this one!
Hear hear!
Interesting to see what guitar they'd use to capture a Jazzmaster, Tele, thinline semi w/ humbuckers... et cetera
Matt of course could use a Bass VI.
@@pabcrane it would be interesting because the guitar tone is so unique and effect driven that it would really require some thought to get it in budget.
@@iceman10129 It would be interesting yes. I've never understood exactly how he get's some of his tones though - as his sound is so unique, but he is using really generic stuff - mostly BOSS pedals (obviously a few other bits and pieces). Guitar wise, it's probably a bit trickier - because he obviously plays a lot of the more well known melodies on the Bass VI, and he's covered a wide gamut of solid and hollow body guitars over the years (particularly the Gretsch and Gibson hollow body era of Wish).
On the plus Robert Smith is almost entirely Boss for pedals I think
You guys are awesome! This is about to be my favorite content to binge 😋
Also, what the heck! That G&L sounds great for that price range!
Sound like: Copyright Strikes
I haven’t even heard Tame Impala that much but those are great sounds for any rig.
It's always nice when you look at the more textural indie bands. It'd be good to see you try The National at some point...
Some really cool sounds on this one! I'd love to see a sound like Bloc Party or Interpol
Ok, lets give it a try 💯
If you guys really want a challenge, I’d love to see a sound like Crowbar/Down (same guitarist). Kirk has a very unique sound.
That's awesome. Sounds almost uncanny to the tone of innerspeaker, which I am glad you guys chose songs exclusively from that album too.
tame impala is my favorite band
You guys nailed the basis of Kev's tone, but his pedal board, or should I say boards are massive.
Nope, you have shoes on! doesn't sound like Kevin Parker.
jokes aside you couldn't use the J Mascis squier anyway because you say "No sig for someone else's rig" but you can do a seperate sound like for J and Lou
Saki Miyu I’ve been begging for them to try to sound like dinosaur jr forever!
Saki Miyu They could’ve used a P-90 guitar, since the J Mascis model in particular has P-90’s in Jazzmaster housings.
@@Yamil97 It doesn't have P90's just regular jazzmaster single coils
@Yamil Ortiz actually they're just Jazzmaster single coils but more higher output
That g&l doheny with AC15 is one of my favourite combinations I’ve ever played
Surprisingly close to my setup
MiM Strat -> Crybaby -> Dynacomp -> Phase 90 -> Uni-Vibe -> Soul Food -> SD1 -> Nano Pi -> Tape Machine -> Vox AC15C1
You nailed this one, loved it
FINALLY!! Ive been requesting this video for a couple of years now :D
THIS WAS INCREDIBLY ACCURATE!!!!
Ahhh I love tame impala now do it by busting this was really good tooo
lol I like these guys. First time seeing the channel and this was super entertaining. Thanks a lot!
Tape machine + fuzz + Blues driver = that weird plasma pedal thing.
great work guys! I really liked how you demonstrated the pedals this time, explaining and playing as you add each one to build the tone. As always:
Prince
Zappa
Derek Trucks
SOAD by busting
Grateful Dead
Slipknot by busting
The Clash
SRV by busting
I think everyone would dream to have someone like matt in their band because every time he plays he makes whatever that is already happening sound twice as good
Too kind! 👊
Would love to see an extended series of this where you use the GR-55, and all the other pedal sounds of the band.
Sounds like Amon Amarth or Rammstein without busting the bank? New Albums were announced so why not eh? Or maybe even Periphery since their new album just came out!
Periphery is a challenge cos you have not 2 but 3 guitarists, Jake, Misha and Mark! so probably rope Rob in to take the role of Jake, let matt be Mark and Bea be misha
as for Rammstein, i know the most about Richard Z Kruspe, he has an EMG loaded ESP model so anything with EMG's will do, his amps are Mesa so get an egnater or a boss katana and possibly a Diezel VH4 just for drive
Really really good work guys! That fuzzy tone its the closest tone I ever hear !
Sound like Pixies. One of the greatest bands ever
I’ve waited so long for this
Try to sound like Devin Townsend next time ! :) Good video by the way ! ;)
The clipping fuzz tone was ace!
How could you not play Elephant that’s literally the one Tame Impala song everyone knows
Karim Khudairi more like the less i know the better or let it happen lmao
Yuri Repollo these are synth songs lol
@@4ntonBerlin the main riffs for both songs are on bass
Aidan Xavier leadsynth and bass play the same melody on let it happen. if u like the bass sound...sure why not. was wondering just because i didnt remember is as being something special sound wise. the less i know might be more valuable in terms of sound but whatever floats ur boat. i kinda came across this channel thinking they do guitar sounds
@@4ntonBerlin what I'm saying is that they probably won't do those two songs because they're bass, not guitar. I do think the bass is the memorable part of those songs, since it's the part everyone knows
That was a killer fuzz tone
Please do Stevie Ray Vaughan by busting the bank.
Nice job guys!!another solid video!!
It's got to be time for a Robert Smith episode.
Doheney is a famous surf beach in Southern California, USA. No one does contemporary surf rock better than Tame Impala. Dunno where I'm going with this except that Aussies are making amazing rock-n-roll (I'm Canadian so no bias)!
Sound like Ghost! Please! (Preferably by busting because it comes closer)
It's just a Casio and a lot of hype. 🤣
You guys did an amazing job, the sounds are so damn spot on it's silly.
Sound like Grand Funk Railroad!
Anon San yes please. Also Allman Brothers and lynyrd skynryd
I haven't really listened to a lot of Tame Impala stuff, but this is a seriously nice rig!
It's probablly impossible since the man makes his own guitars but how about a challenge of Sounding like Seasick Steve?
Athens, GA local here. Loving the Greer shirt
Sound like:
Khruangbin
This will Destroy You
The Datsuns
Would love to see a bass sounds like of the impalas too🤘
Have never really listened to tame impala before but might give them a listen based purely off of this video. Nice one lads! But for the love of god please do the pixies 😁
This one sounded great. Nice job.
Wolf Alice without busting the bank! :)
Great job. Really loved the tones.
Sound like Karnivool!
I HAVE WAITED SO LONG FOR THIS OMGGGGG
Please do My Chemical Romance
The Struts
Reignwolf
Keshin Martin
Reignwolf puts on one a hell of a live show. Some sick Octavia like Fuzz.
Keshin Martin Reignwolf’s a must. Haven’t seen an act like them in a while.
Good job!!! I really really need a "Sound like dinosaur Jr " video :)
Sounds like Seasick Steve by busting the bank 😋
Rabea with a jazzmaster and an AC15 is too much power for one man to handle
Sound like My Bloody Valentine please
I'm kinda losing hope on that one :p
Indeed!
As soon as they find a reverse reverb on a budget they’ll do it
@@fionaur5933 DigiTech Polara is pretty good for its price
SynVes i hope they see that comment
a reverb dude! the key is the holy grail
A real challenge, Sound Like My Bloody Valentine.
SRone45 To be honest I don’t think they could pull it off
Its sounded suuuuper acaccurate you guys did great with that
