Okay, Not too bad, But since I own a 2017 honda civic sport touring 1.5L turbo engine model, And I change my own oil and I have 45 thousand miles on the odometer so I've been under this car quite a few times im gonna call you on a few things you didn't mention to your audience 😁 First thing is the fasteners that hold the skid plate on! The two in front are Phillips head screws,But the other six (two on each side and two clear in the back) are not screws, They are called Zeus fittings! They have a large standard head screwdriver slot on them and you only turn them a quarter of a turn while pushing up slightly so it will clear the locking device at the end. And second thing is the crush washer does go on one way! As do any washer used in automotive across the board. One side is rounded and the other side is cut precisely flat! And the rounded side always goes out towards the bolt. There are some things that it will create a problem. One that comes to mind i seen it happen on was the kick starter gear on a KTM motocross bike, the tolerance was so tight between the two gears that if you put it on with the rounded side down it would make about two laps around the race track and then sheer the outer edge of the teeth off and lock up the engine! It did it twice before we figured out what was causing it. And years later a very good mechanic i worked for in a transmission shop told me always pay attention to the way the washer is installed on everything! Third thing, You never just pull on a tool when loosening any bolts! Always make sure you have no play between socket and bolt and then smack the handle with impact to break any bolt, drain plug,Ect... It sucks when you twist the head off of a bolt! And the last thing is that you didn't slide the splash pan / skid plate up and back on the four tabs that align and hold the plate in place! It is easy to get frustrated with that damn thing and crush those under the splash pan and when that happens the Zeus fittings will not completely lock in and vibration will work them loose and you know the rest! Now here is a couple of tips for your audience that will save you a lot of heart ache and money! First thing is, get something that you can spray the rubber pieces such as CV axle boots and steering components that have rubber dust boots on them and make sure it won't break down the rubber as petroleum will do! But you need to keep the rubber pieces soft and pliable. And this car is a low rider! And you need to keep that in mind when pulling up to the parking curb at places you park at! It takes very little pressure to crush the core support up into the inner cooler and cause it to leak! Or the radiator itself!😉

This was awesome, my old man was never mechanical so I'm thankful to have this info. I like that it's simple, no bs he got it done, showed you what he used at the end. I can take this under my car if I want. Good job!
Great Video! Clear and exemplified directions. I discovered from another online tutorial that the screws that look like phillips head aren't actually phillips. They are J.I.S. (Japanese Industrial Standard) which have different radius and angles. If you can remove those screws on the shroud with a phillips, good to hear. Some Diy'ers have complained the stripped out the notches and had to drill them out. You can find J.I.S. screwdriver sets online for about $13 U.S.C. FYI. Thank you for the Vid!
Thanks Fish, for just being a real guy. Being a transplanted NYer I miss hearing the accent everyday. I got lazy with the Dealership free oil changes, But I needed to get under there this time to get a oil sample, to sent off to a lab for analysis. Thanks again Man.
Hey Fish....getting back to you about my Lab results. Background I bought a "17" CRV. The car now has 7,180 miles on it. The sample oil was the vehicles 2nd oil change and had 4,710 miles of use on it. The Lab did find fuel mixed in the oil, 1.3% of volume, amounts of 2.0% or above are problematic. Though the amounts found are not troubling at this time they suggest I keep a close watch on it due to the known propensity for dilution with this engine..other than that, based on the oil analysis, the motor got a clean bill of health, meaning no abnormally high levels of wear. Take care.
Great job. I might like that dip stick. Does the plastic orange end really help you see the oil level? My Toyota all metal stick makes it extremely difficult to see the oil mark when the oil is new. It’s very frustrating - looks like yours might solve that issue
The Orange Plastic, does not help at all, the metal criss cross is the better, now you do not need to take my word f or it but what the best Method is. if its difficult to see a paper fold it and then place on open and you see the actual oil stain and level
@@fishycomics - thanks for the reply I’ve tried that method too and although it does work to some extent it’s a little non-precise so to speak and hard to read sometimes as well. Too bad oil levels are just easier to measure either through instrumentation or having an overfill bolt that you just fill to when you fill up the car!! I actually have a precise amount of oil that I put in every time so I don’t even really need to check the level anymore when I change the oil for it’s always consistent
Good vid....I add that the under-car cover has two types of fasteners: 3 are Phillips head screws and the rest are quarter-turn screws. I also added a Mishimoto compact oil separator to the PVC to intake manifold hose to hopefully prevent oil vapors from allowing carbon deposits to build up on the intake valves. My separator only cost around $150; beats having to go through a decarb process at a dealer later, IMO.
@@chrismersits3504 no way, if I have to take it in for warranty issues, I'll simply remove the catch can and put the original hose from the crankcase to the intake manifold.
Thank you! I just bought a new one of these. I was wondering how hard it would be to change the oil. I see it is not so different from my wife's 1999 accord.
I couldn’t get the screw off at the back of the shield. The rest of them came off very easily. I’ve noticed that a lot of others have had the same problem. What I did notice, however, is that the entire shield easily pivots out of the way without having to remove the back screw. Therefore, I left it in place and was able to change the filter and oil without any problems.
that is what i do as well. that last bolt in back can stay, just swing that pan out of the way ...rotating it back around so you can do the job. then swings back in place... 10mm bolts in the two front, with washers with just a small hole to hold that sh*^ up... great video!...
Great video!. In Europe we have the option of diesel CRVs. I recently bought a set of ramps to do my service, amongst other things with my CRV. Mine is a diesel, and the oil filter is at the top of the engine. Its the paper type. I think Honda cars are brilliant.
@@fishycomics I do actualy love the car. I also have an 08 Mercedes e320cdi diesel. Its a fast cruiser, but the Honda is the better car for my family, as its far more economical and practical.
There is no "break in " oil in the engine. The oil life indicator calculates when the useful oil life has expired. "A logorithm is used that takes into account the number of times the engine is started, the length of each trip, the temperature of the engine coolant each time it is driven, the amount of stop & go driving, the amount of idling, the amount high-speed driving, and--of course--odometer mileage and elapsed time." Having said that, you can change the oil any time you wish and the video is helpful instruction for those that have not changed oil before.
I am waaaay older school than you and believe me, I have a hard time with the oil life monitor things, just as much as with the maintenance reminders but hey, they are there for people that do not pay much attention to the schedules and, as always, idiot lights are better than gauges and schedules :) One thing, I will be changing to synthetic oil on the first oil change. Synthetic because the turbo runs so hot and spins so fast that I think (no science, just gut feel and mechanical experience) synthetic will flow better and cool better than regular oil in all temperatures.
We all own cars that do not have oil remonders. our 1991 corolla. Also the Crv is with Gh Honda full synthetic Ow-20. old or new. we are wise to know when to change. our oils.
Are we discussing a 1991 Corrolla or a 2017 CR-V? Actually, the recommended oil is not fully synthetic. The Owners manual says "• Genuine Honda Motor Oil • Premium-grade 0W-20 detergent oil with an API Certification Seal on the container." and "Synthetic oil You may also use synthetic motor oil if it is labeled with the API Certification Seal and is the specified viscosity grade."
The screws...clips....they are JIS (Japanese Industry Standard).....they may strip if you use a standard #2 Phillips. Plus they are aluminum when they should have made them out of stainless which is harder and less likely to strip.
undercar is spotless...even inside the rims and backing plates still shiny.....exhaust is spotless and oil is clean and not black..this SUV never seen rain or even a dusty road,,,,,,.. ,good video though,,thanks for sharing
Hi please explain how aftermarket oil is better then oem ? 98% of people do change with aftermarket oils . Oem oils are really bad at all ? Or just price preference ?
8:30 that is Honda Oil the price was a bit higher at $13.00 per Qt $52.00for a change Vss $25-35 at Walmart I use Castroil most hte time. Only difference is hte name as all Oilscome from Mother Earth
If you are planning on keeping that vehicle for more than 4 years, then add a 'Catch Can' to the engine, so that the oil vapors from the PCV system won't lead to intake valve carbon deposit problems after 100,000 miles. Direct injection engines have that problem, that is why Toyota is now using engines with BOTH direct injection AND port injection to 'wash' away those nasty carbon deposits on the intake valves.
This is the second video I've watched about doing an oil change on the 2018 Honda CRV 1.5l engine. The pictures in the thick owner's manual are not very clear, so I wanted to see a video of someone doing it. I use the thick owner's manual that you have to order, as the thin one that comes with the vehicle is very basic and about 20% as thick as the larger one. Now that I've seen where everything is the oil change will be as simple and probably easier than the other two vehicles my wife and I own. I don't understand people who pull the filter first. I've always found that pulling the filter second is less messy when most of the oil is drained first. I will take a gander while I'm under the car to see if pulling the drain plug first provides no advantage due to the position of the oil pan and filter. Then again, I'm in a 50+ year habit of the drain plug first and it makes a difference on my other two vehicles, so why confuse my nearly 70 year old brain! I also let my oil drain overnight as the last of the oil to drip out is about the dirtiest oil in the engine. Just being particular and maybe it is overkill, but I like the oil nearly 100% clean after I change it. Thanks for this video, it will lessen my fumbling around on the garage floor.
What bugs me is that both the thin and thick owner's manual don't list maintenance intervals. I guess I will have to order the service manual to find them. The owner's manuals don't have any information for the DIY or "shade tree mechanic. Every maintenance procedure given contains wording that you should not do the maintenance on your own. Well, guess what Honda, some of us live over 100 miles from a dealership, have been maintaining our cars all of our lives and your "have the dealer do everything (including changing light bulbs)" is a crock of $@*&.
When I let every drop drip out, will you still be watching the video? this is what you, members at a forum think getting every last drop out is important, It be a lot faster to drop the pan, wipe clean and put back by the time that ever happens. I do drain, as it is about finished, I close up, thanks for the laughs (good way) glad you enjoyed it and caught what I said.
@@BW-kv9wj No Idid exactly what Idid and of the members that followed. if you watched my oil vids I did them is so many different ways. and not one can agree.
thank you car not in hand to do the reminder but if I remember the info on the wheel you can get to the MM and reset, or to the radio simply hit the menu and look for the car maintenance
FYI. There is no more break-in oil for vehicles. Break-in oil was in vehicles along time ago. You’re dealing with a 2017 why would you think that has break-in oil ? All these new vehicles come with synthetic oil from the factory. I recommend looking in your manual. I change my oil every 7500 even through it says every 10k. Also don’t you want to start the vehicle and look under to see if there’s any leaks before putting the cover on ?
Turbo' need just a little more care then what you're saying that is our opinion. break in or not Oil and shavings is not a good mixture. drive it like you stole it .
No. gas smells like gas, oil like oil in the right sections of our V the Oil does not have signs of gas residue at all. We got notified but never brought in. in the dead of Summer I can report again on this.
@@fishycomics just wanted to get peoples opinions and experience, it seems like these 1.5l engines are a crap shoot, some have bad oil dilution, some none at all. I was looking at a civic with 11k miles, really nice, touring edition, 17.7k was the price, well below market, but the oil was changed around 10k and it already smelled like gasoline
@@fishycomics I love that really. I never go to the Toyota dealer for any service do it all myself. When I occasionally go in for a part I chuckle at all the sheep waiting for their car to get serviced and the huge crowds
fishycomics my car came with 51r size and I got 2 batteries over since I bought the car, I checked online, many crv’s owners they upgrade their battery for a bigger one, because with the 51r are to sluggish.
Your thought on can the oil filter be replaced without removing the splash guard? Had an oil change done recently and they sucked the oil out thru the dip stick tube and claim they changed the oil filter from the under side thru the wheel well. I don’t see how this is possible. Opinion??
5th gen the Oil canister is in front of the engine, on the bottom, the lower Aluminum cover must come off, only car I recall I had I had my arm through the wheel well was my 2nd gen cr-v. I personally contact the manager and have them walk you through the steps in person, and request a Full refund and a free Oil change on the house, written for the next visit.
Any issue oil dilution? Many 1.5T owners reporting it. The oil dip stick showing engine oil over the top orange indicated gas entering engine oil due to the loose piston ring. I hv 2016 with 2.4L engine so won't hv this issue. Hope HONDA can fix it. It's almost impossible to buy a 2.4L 2018 HONDA now....:-(
fishycomics HONDA china already extended warranty the engine to 6yrs 200k km. Their CRV using the same 1.5t in US. I hope this will not happen in US. Good luck!

two types the one you reference at 1:00 to 1:10 get a 10mm bolt and a washer that is the size no need to get the same. what I used, the other is a 1/4 turn that is harder to find.
@@fishycomics Ok thanks. I am thinking of getting a CR-V and not having to jack it up for the oil change would be huge. Just have to get a pan that's not too tall. Thanks!
It looks very similar to the tool I got with my Honda filter I purchased at my Honda dealer for my Honda Goldwing. Check with your local Honda dealer is my advice.
What is your oil funnel? I'm trying to pour from a 5qt jug. 2017 Honda CR-V 1.5L motor has an oil input with less than 2cm opening before plastic filtering, eliminating the usage of normal funnels.
You could not pay me to use Fram products. Go look at videos of the poor filters they make and decide if you want to save a few bucks literally on a filter. Go with Wix - always a good option
I've got a 2018 Honda CRV 1.5T. I've got 3,500 miles on the car. Oil life is at 50%. I've driven the car for 6 months and 3,500 miles. I feel like I need to get rid of this break in oil and after this many miles. Thoughts? Too soon?
I would change out because you have 6 months on her, and seems you are very easy going on the V, 3500 mi. i for sure it is broken in already if asked, I changed my sis's out because I we have a Love/hate relationship I hate her because she got a crv, I love her because she's my sis. and honestly I am happy I did not get one (lol) and I take care of the car as it's mine, I get to driver her wahoo!. I change the Oil and filter, and rotate the tires, because the next schedule will be Oil. filter and tires. and then one after is oil only, I personally find this a sales gimmic this maint minder thing. that is my opinion.
Thank you! I made an appointment for next Friday! I had gasoline mixing with my oil last winter raising the oil level far above the dipstick orange. I also think the maintenance minder is a gimic. Coming from a family owned Mobil Service Station, 6 months is all we ever recommended that oil be in the engine. Thanks again for all your help!
Great to hear, I am sure all will be fine. let me know if there is anything else I can do. appreciate you coming by and sharing your info means the world here, to all!
CRV got big trouble.now. Engine oil increase becasue of gas sneaking into engine oil bay. Moreover, engine oil will emulsify just in few weeks. Wish you good luck
If Honda says 0W20 oil required in the Owner's manual - ONLY use 0W20 oil. I don't care what you think about Turbo chargers - use what the Manufacturer of the car says - Moron.
Only a moron would believe in this day and age a manufacturer is actually looking out for you, they want the car to break and for you to buy another it's just like Washing machines and dryers, but those don't last 15 years any more do they?????
With all due respect 96cr, if you are driving anything with a turbocharger, you must use the exact weight oil specified by the manufacturer. If under warranty and you have ANY engine or turbo problem the dealer will pull an oil sample. If your oil is not spec, then your warranty is voided, period. $ out of your wallet! Also, the thinner oils are needed to squeeze through the tighter fitting parts of today. *On any turbo engine folks ... use the exact oil specified and change it at, or even before the service interval. Clean oil keeps turbos running. Dirty oil ruins them. Actually this applies to ALL engines. Peace out!
I personally changed out at 600 on this video. the time you should change and have things prepare will be at 15% giving you time to get to a shop. you can wait for it to hit ZERO and you will still be good to go. the last 10% no one talks about will be 100 mi. per 1 percent but remember this is a computer recording the driver. light foot longer , heavy foot faster hope i made sense .
I did it because I wanted to do it that way for this video as well my other new Toyota corolla one? the plug is first or the filter,, both ways the oil drains exactly, comes out exactly. I found it easier to do the filter first, get it out of the way and may have given better air and drain flow during the change?. While the Oil is draining I can clean up the filter area and waste a little less time, on the car. All in all the Key word of my work is the Uncoventional way of doing things. If I do things piss poor then I will get scolded here. since I do a mighty fine job helping out, you'll see many people are grateful etc... I use my own vids as notes why you may see a few of the same oil changes and htey hit over timed a ton of comments and views, and that means the world to me I appreciate the excellent answer it is by far a top 5 question for this clip t hank you. I hoped I explained it clearly and as simple as it sounded No difference, pople may beg to differ?
fishycomics isnt that a little to early? I currently have 3700 miles on my 2018 crv and haven’t gotten an oil change yet because the dealer said its way to early for one.
Thanks for your car video really enjoy it! : ) I would admit don't like the protective plate could see where that could be a pain. Notice each new car manufactures making it more difficult making it longer to perform same task. Look forward to your next car vid!
Do you know what the metal plate is called? The one you took off to get to the bottom of the engine? If so, I need to buy one for my CRV. If you know the name, part #, or a website where I can get one...I would appreciate the info. Really enjoyed the video.
Per shop they call it a fender. that is where you will start your search, it is not called a lower skid plate, its a cover. noted on the parts list. try looking at Majestic honda under fender
fishycomics you're the man! I found it on their website. They actually call it an engine cover lid (lower). What about the plastic part in front of it? Its just a little section of plastic that those screws are attached to. Any thoughts on what that name might be? Thanks!
sorry no issue when this was changed out at 600 mi. on the Odometer , it's 20K later and still no issue. I be more then happy to accept a Oil test kit from anyone FREE and ship out, see our reading to post. ANYONE!

I'll add another comment - instead of jacking the vehicle, I run the CRV up on a couple 2x10s. The 1.5 inch raise is enough for me to slide far enough under the front of the vehicle to reach all the removable pan fasteners. Another comment: had to go buy a oil filter removal tool - couldn't get enough purchase with my strap wrench to unscrew the filter - only $6 at Advanced Auto.

Therefore, I left it in place and was able to change the filter and oil without any problems.
no issues on mine , not sure how you can leave on and get around. all in all great to hear
The screws are actually JIS and standard Phillips #2 may strip the screws. I also sprayed up the rear screw to loosen it.
that is what i do as well. that last bolt in back can stay, just swing that pan out of the way ...rotating it back around so you can do the job. then swings back in place...
I think Honda cars are brilliant.
awesome, thank you for stopping by and sharing that info, I bet you love the car.
"A logorithm is used that takes into account the number of times the
engine is started, the length of each trip, the temperature of the engine coolant each time it is driven, the amount of stop & go driving, the amount of idling, the amount high-speed driving, and--of course--odometer mileage and elapsed time." Having said that, you can change the oil any time you wish and the video is helpful instruction for those that have not changed oil before.
I am Old school, not new school . And thank you for your comment and advice on how a computer runs our life . appreciate it :)
The Owners manual says "• Genuine Honda Motor Oil
• Premium-grade 0W-20 detergent oil with an API Certification Seal on the container." and "Synthetic oil
You may also use synthetic motor oil if it is labeled with the API Certification Seal and is the specified viscosity grade."
Per spec I used exactly GH Honda. if I said other cars of what I used that is what I used.
This looks like marine park. Will be attempting a oil change one of these days in the street (y).
very easy to do trust me, thank you for stopping by.
The screws...clips....they are JIS (Japanese Industry Standard).....they may strip if you use a standard #2 Phillips. Plus they are aluminum when they should have made them out of stainless which is harder and less likely to strip.
No. 10 bolts are in and hte poorly designed ones out, thanks for the tips.
undercar is spotless...even inside the rims and backing plates still shiny.....exhaust is spotless and oil is clean and not black..this SUV never seen rain or even a dusty road,,,,,,.. ,good video though,,thanks for sharing
Great Job, great tips friend, regards from México , city
Hi please explain how aftermarket oil is better then oem ? 98% of people do change with aftermarket oils . Oem oils are really bad at all ? Or just price preference ?
8:30 that is Honda Oil the price was a bit higher at $13.00 per Qt $52.00for a change Vss $25-35 at Walmart I use Castroil most hte time. Only difference is hte name as all Oilscome from Mother Earth
well,, long time since a crv video was made, welcome back.
Thank you. My job is done. put a smile right on my face with this comment!!!
I like how he said, let every drop drip out. Then he puts the drain bolt back in while the oil is still streaming out. LOL
@@fishycomics I just thought it was funny that you did the opposite of what you said. I laughed.
@@BW-kv9wj No Idid exactly what Idid and of the members that followed. if you watched my oil vids I did them is so many different ways. and not one can agree.
Very well done. Now: how do you reset the maintenance minder?
thank you car not in hand to do the reminder but if I remember the info on the wheel you can get to the MM and reset, or to the radio simply hit the menu and look for the car maintenance
Not exactly how I would have done it in sequence. But it got everything and among the best vids I have seen.
Just wondering, did you smell gasoline on your oil?
No. gas smells like gas, oil like oil in the right sections of our V the Oil does not have signs of gas residue at all.
I love my Honda’s. I envy your car!
That oil looked quite clean actually.
So is fuel...
Norm T If gas makes up more than about 2% of the content of that oil you’ve got bigger problems than a simple oil change will fix.
any gas in that oil?
Do you think using fram oil filter and not original hond oil filter will hurt ?
not changing will hurt, use what you like I say. Gh honda and counterfiets are out there
Waiting for the video of the second oil change. : ) Very good video
Replace them with aluminum bolts for next’s match the thread
Yes we can thanks
Does the engine oil dilution affect your usage? Are you in a cold state? I didn't notice the problem in a warm state
as its winter no issues here. its like 14 degrees. and I got an oil change to do.
@@fishycomicsthanks for your reply. did you go to honda dealer to do the recall maintenance several years ago?
@@jason7746 I never stepped foot into any honda service department, this car is not with issues
@@fishycomics I love that really. I never go to the Toyota dealer for any service do it all myself. When I occasionally go in for a part I chuckle at all the sheep waiting for their car to get serviced and the huge crowds
Hey man, have you ever got problems with the factory battery of your CR-V? I just upgrade my crv 2017 with a battery size 35 group with 800amp.
No the Battery works well Size 35 sounds like My Toyota and 800A, is that the recommended exchange?
fishycomics my car came with 51r size and I got 2 batteries over since I bought the car, I checked online, many crv’s owners they upgrade their battery for a bigger one, because with the 51r are to sluggish.
Can you do a video how to drain the coolant on your Honda crv 2017? I dont see any video how to drain coolant radiation
I love to when the time is right. not before.
that plate is to keep the important parts clean and easy to unscrew
and to keep things under the engine streamlined (aerodynamic) for better gas mileage...... my new Insight hybrid also has it.
HenryHonda ya you can TH-cam and see how air flows around the car at high speeds and doesn’t go into the pockets of the cat
Why do you remove the filter first and then drain, just wondering.
It's almost impossible to buy a 2.4L 2018 HONDA now....:-(
No none at all. and that must be a forum thing if asked.
fishycomics HONDA china already extended warranty the engine to 6yrs 200k km. Their CRV using the same 1.5t in US. I hope this will not happen in US. Good luck!
When Chona makes a Honda Let me know?
People are saying "only in China" but I just smelled my dipstick and it smells like pure gasoline on my vehicle purchased right here in Oregon.Calling dealer tomorrow. We'll see how well they back up their warranteed vehicles
@@scottblanche6657 I change my oil in all my cars, and they all have some sort smell of gasoline when the oil is drained. Some more than others. But to be safe , have it checked out by the dealership.
How can I find more screws? the ones you remove at the 1 min mark? I've looked and asked everywhere and I still just find clips.
two types the one you reference at 1:00 to 1:10 get a 10mm bolt and a washer that is the size no need to get the same. what I used, the other is a 1/4 turn that is harder to find.
I enjoyed this video. Very well explained.
Nice video thanks for sharing after this I will do by myself the oil change
Could you change the oil without jacking it up?
yes I rather have room to get the pan off I can do it no issues
@@fishycomics Ok thanks. I am thinking of getting a CR-V and not having to jack it up for the oil change would be huge. Just have to get a pan that's not too tall. Thanks!
Great video. Did you notice any fuel smell in the old oil?
Is it 3.4 quarts of oil in a Honda CRV 2021 ?
3.7 per the manual.
Good video, thanks for the info! I wanted to do this myself and not pay the dealership.
Any sign of oil dilution for your 2017 CRV? Did you smell gas from the discharged oil?
No.
FYI manual has oil capacity listed in specifications.
yep it ure does read the manual I say no one does.
How about a lil never seize on those skid plate fasteners.
you bet
Can you give me the name of ur tool that you use to open the filter?
It looks very similar to the tool I got with my Honda filter I purchased at my Honda dealer for my Honda Goldwing. Check with your local Honda dealer is my advice.
Ok thanks cause I got some tool but kind hard to open it
How many miles was it
doing hte first, say 600 mi, why, because the first pick up of all new cars they inspect the oil added in
Very good information! You are a very talented and smart man! Thank you!
Some things I enjoy doing. thank you those are very kind words and I appreciate your watching
Thanks, very helpful! And i enjoyed your style! :-)
What is your oil funnel? I'm trying to pour from a 5qt jug. 2017 Honda CR-V 1.5L motor has an oil input with less than 2cm opening before plastic filtering, eliminating the usage of normal funnels.
I have gotten products before this World became the way it is. Its a wide mouth funnel will need to look it up
Did your crv dilution problem, did your oil mix with gas too?
No oil in the gas
Forget the Honda filter and use the FRAM Ultra Synthetic filter. Best filter I have ever used on my Acura
Same company makes both
You could not pay me to use Fram products. Go look at videos of the poor filters they make and decide if you want to save a few bucks literally on a filter. Go with Wix - always a good option
Nice video - easy and fun to watch.
David Eb sounds like you have that oil dilution problem. Luckly mine is not suffering from that
do not assume others have your problem, Are you willing to pay for his oil report and see what it says?
Love your videos you always do a great job
CRV got big trouble.now. Engine oil increase becasue of gas sneaking into engine oil bay. Moreover, engine oil will emulsify just in few weeks. Wish you good luck
I think a 20w oil is a poor choice for a turbo vehicle I would go up to 30 weight turbochargers get hot and wear oil out fast
20W50 was it back then on my 84 Mitsubishi Starion ESI
Peace out!
@@garyolafson8303 100% agree. Why do people think they know more than the people who built the car.
hello. How about a fuel dilution? Did you check a oil level before oil change?
still today not what others are having there is no turbo oil issue.

What % oil life per computer do you change oil at? Parents have 2017 AWD CRV . Thanks
I personally changed out at 600 on this video. the time you should change and have things prepare will be at 15% giving you time to get to a shop. you can wait for it to hit ZERO and you will still be good to go. the last 10% no one talks about will be 100 mi. per 1 percent but remember this is a computer recording the driver. light foot longer , heavy foot faster hope i made sense .
fishycomics awesome. Helped a lot. No lead foots. Parents 78 . I just curious what % their at 30 % left now and at 12,000, not bad and city.
Winter tires on in fall - change oil , summer on in spring - change the oil , I don't listen to computers that "think" they know everything
Excellent video ... thank you.
Curious - what filter did you install?
Purchased from a Online a GH Honda filter for the car. A honda OAM not aftermarket.
very clear... I would prefer to change my own oil...Great Video...
Thank you appreciate the kind words and all. I totally agree
Thank you very much!! Screw the dealership.
in your live oil changed video you used castrol.. this one you use Honda.. any reason why?
I wanted to do my first with All Honda and there after all Castroil.
The factory recommends paper inside filter, that's what you use, not some metal one because you think it's better.
cut the filter open and you got your answer if you vcan pull it out da monitor.
What is the reason for draining oil filter first before the drain plug?

How many miles did you drive till you got your first oil change?
600 mi. was my first oil & filter change.
fishycomics isnt that a little to early? I currently have 3700 miles on my 2018 crv and haven’t gotten an oil change yet because the dealer said its way to early for one.
fishycomics 600 miles!! 😁I guess that’s one way to stop oil dilution.
How many thousand miles does it need to change oil?
to each tehir own. I follow that MM thing

oil dilution?
YOU are correct.
fishycomics thanks for the reply i plan to get this car but i did my research says it has this issue, dealer keep sayin its fixed
Thanks!
lower flare???
fishycomics no go. Thanks for the try.
the main part you asked for you found, but you're asking for other parts. that you'll need to look up and find, right?

Thank you!! Very helpful
For the life of me I don't understand why they do not put the drain plug facing directly downward, my Toyota drain plug faces downward, my Chevy sideways right next to the exhaust pipe splatters everywhere drives me crazy!
Has to be an engineers reason why.
i don't know either.. some pan have bottom and some on side.
I'll add another comment - instead of jacking the vehicle, I run the CRV up on a couple 2x10s. The 1.5 inch raise is enough for me to slide far enough under the front of the vehicle to reach all the removable pan fasteners.
Another comment: had to go buy a oil filter removal tool - couldn't get enough purchase with my strap wrench to unscrew the filter - only $6 at Advanced Auto.
i be careful with the wood the AWD can kick in? Been there done that?
There is enough clearance but a little more can not hurt I hear ya about the tools, and parts great to hear, and thank you for the advice and info always appreciated, FISH
Or maybe just buy a ramp to make life easier :)
Come on buy yourself a ramp. It is much safer. You don't want your car to crush you while you are under there.
I use two 2x8 screwed together to give me 3 extra inches of clearance. Ramps can tip over.
I like ramps too but let’s be truthful they can be tricky depending on vehicle. I can see how they can be intimidating for some. 2x8 idea is a good one
How much does a regular engine oil change service costs
All depends on the shop, and region in, tehy can run from 19.00 up to hundreds. I find doing it yourself, it gets done with the correct fluids, never know ifi ts all recycled oil and filters used, or even changed. some can be free for Life.
