  • In this video I demonstrate a really cool spray paint trick to create this awesome nebula sparkle finish using spray cans and dry glitter. I love this trick and I hope you guys will too.
    All you need for this is your clear coat, some fine sparkle/glitter, and of course the appropriate safety equipment.

      @@BradAngove Ahh ok. I saw you putting the paint remover paste on the finish in the other video and I had to turn it off because I didn't want to witness the nice job being ruined. Lol. You actually inspired me to do a sparkle job on my old 90's Crate 212 Speaker Cabinet. If I could bend your ear? The cabinet is particle board. I am using Rustoleum for all paint. So I did a bunch of Primer/Sealer. Now I am onto the Metallic base coat. Should I wet sand the Metallic before I do the sparkle or just wait till after the clear coat. I think I saw in another video that you don't have to buff base coat if you sanded. Thanks man. BTW the Metallic isn't super textured right now but I do have two more cans to spray.

    I hate being a stickler, but being a painter i have to say this. The sparkle and glitter turned out much better than i expected. The clear though, that was rough. If it were me, id put about 3, or even 4 more coats (since its spray cans) then cut and polish smooth. It may sound like a lot for little, but it will add so much clarity to the depth of your nebula

    More great tips again, Brad. Thank you!
    I've noticed that in the UK, we can get small bags of the "glitter" that you mix into your paint before either brushing it on or loading it into a spray bottle.
    This technique you've used here would be ideal for this product (although I've only seen it in gold or silver).

    Looks really cool, I'm a painter who does custom bikes, I get a similar effect with a big air cap 1.8 and put the glitter in the clear, then give it 2 more coats, I like to use it over flip flop paints, it really pops when the sun hits, or spotlights, I've done some plain black wheels and just put glitter in the top coats, that shows up in light but just looks black when in the shade, very popular locally with guys into modding there cars.
    Great idea, especially just using a rattle can.

    I think I'm going to give this a try in a much different way. I'll start out the way you did, with a flat black primer, then a coat of clear as you did, and then add only the black glitter. I'll then follow up with another coat of clear and another layer of glitter, and repeat 2, 3 or 4 times with a different color each time. This will give a lot of depth for a bar top. Instead of finishing with more clear spray paint, I'll finish with a crystal clear 2 part epoxy that is designed for bar top applications.

    • @BradAngove
      @BradAngove  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Should be cool. You’ll need the epoxy because the rest will be so thick it will be difficult for it to harden properly.

It’s heavy enough to feel the texture of the sparkles after a few coats of clear. I would like to get it as smooth as possible. In this video you recommended scuffing it after a few days and going on with a couple more coats. How would you go about polishing a sparkle finish and getting a thick enough coat to not feel the texture so much?
    I don’t really mind the texture, but I don’t wanna have a glitter mess one day in my office LOL

    Did you ever do a follow up video on how the clear coat dried on the guitar body? Spray can paint does not use a hardener to dry cured and that was a lot of clear sprayed all on the same day. It was a nice looking job done in good timing but for people watching who will try the same paint job at home should should be advised that its best to apply half that amount in one session and allow 2-3 days to dry in a ventilated environment and as a bonus tip, give the clear coat a medium sanding with 800 or 600 grit wet sand paper (without sanding down to the glitter) before applying another session of clear coat to the guitar body. It will help have a more glass like reflection and the clear coat will dry harder and be less gummy from all the layers of paint. Someone mentioned in the comments that you tend to "over explain" lol man.... you can NEVER over explain when it comes to body and paint. The questions people will have are limitless and the things that can go wrong have no ending. Rock on! This is my first time seeing this channel so pardon me for not knowing more about you and your channel as far as this comment goes.

      I have a number of videos on coats and timing and paint thickness etc. For this type of finish there isn’t really an opportunity to do less paint at once. You need a few coats and they need to be reasonably heavy. Ideally you do this one in a warm shop or you could have drying issues. I did a follow up video on this one where I polished it using jescar products.
      FYI, although they are dangerous and require ppe that many hobbyists don’t have, there are spray cans with hardeners in them. They just aren’t very common. I have videos on that as well.

    I was thinking maybe doing this to my rims, perhaps maybe mixing the purple and blue on my palm and with like a blow dryer aim it on my rim from a distance (x2) then sealing it with clear coat after?????

    Loved the video!
    I will look at your other videos but have you tried the different colored glitter on a lighter colored background, like silver? I'm thinking of painting my wheels but don't want them black even with the color glitter over the black. Thanks!

      I haven’t got a video on that, but putting glitter on lighter backgrounds is fine. It’s just a different effect.

    I ran across this old one while looking for techniques to finish that Tele Deluxe kit I mentioned that I want to carve a leather cover for. "Pink Taco?!" That's awesome!! :D So, judging from watching your technique here, it seems as though the real secret to a top notch "sparkle galaxy" finish is knowing when to throw the glitter overhand, underhand, or sidearm. :-D

    • @BradAngove
      @BradAngove  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Usually sidearm.

      @@BradAngove Yes the thought has always crossed my mind would be to use that multi color galaxy to do say a burst effect with ... but i thought I read somewhere that it said to only be used on its own. BUT it might be a idea for you to do on a future episode bud. :)
