Buying from Carvana Four Different Times

  • This is a very old video. I feel 100% different about Carvana in 2024. I'm not saying I would not buy from them but I'd rather buy elsewhere. At one time they were a fantastic option and my favorite place to shop and purchase a car. They have fallen so far for many reason.
    I have other Carvana videos on my channel explaining more.

    I just bought a car from Carvana and decided to take delivery on Friday (after the 4th). The hardest part was deciding which car to buy. I eliminated rentals, rust belt cars and cars with one key ( some of those keys are $400). The process could not have been easier. I traded a car in for more than the dealer would give me, financed through Carvana (at 3.9%) and e signed the paperwork in less than 5 minutes. No pressure to buy vin etching, life insurance, extended warranties, paint protection or fabric protection. The first thing that I will do during my 7 day tryout will be to take it to my mechanic for a thorough once over before deciding to keep it. One other thing; if I send it back, my trade will be coming back to me as well. They won’t ship it off anywhere during my trial period. If the delivery goes smoothly I will have to say that this is the easiest system that I have ever used. Plus I get the 100 day warranty as well. I may never visit a dealer again.🚘☮️

      That is my sentiments exactly. I am probably....can't say for certain...but probably done with traditional dealerships. I have another Carvana video and in that one the heater tore up 9 days after owning it. It shows how easily Black Rock, Carvana's 100 day warranty company is to deal with. It was super easy and a $500+ repair cost me $20, $25, I can't remember. They would not pay for the coolant for some reason but no matter. I was happy to only be out just a few dollars. My 1st purchase with Carvana when it came time to decline the extended warranty on their page I was expecting a pop up that'd have a person saying stuff like " (slight giggle) now Mr. McPhink don't you know how much an air conditioner cost to fix? If your transmission goes out it's gonna be $1500 minimum and properly much more. Mr. McPhink, everyone gets the extended warranty." That's what I was expecting and was so pleased when nothing happened. I've never gotten out of a traditional dealership without being talked down to once I declined the warranty. Congrats on your new ride. I hope you enjoy it.

      J McPhink Thanks. I will be sure to check out your other video as well, as I am going to make sure that anything that shows up during the initial inspection or first 100 days is taken care of while that time period is in place.Oh yeah, getting my vehicle back if I decide not to accept the car? That makes me grin when I think of the horror stories that I have heard about dealers misplacing a customer’s keys and sometimes even their car when the customer decides to walk away. 🤔☮️

    I bought my car from Carvana after Hurricane Harvey flooded my old car. They had fallen behind on orders because of Southern Texas alone (1 million cars were totaled in the area). So my delivery took about 10 days, but most orders take just 2-5 days depending on the scenario. Additionally, since I bought a car due to Harvey, Carvana gave me a $500 gift card.

      11/24/19, Preferring to buy new, I research the type car I want w/what features & price. Then I went to my local Ford dealer & paid cash for a brand-new (2015) Taurus LTD/awd. Ok so you might say "go used, save money;" actually you go for a particular car that's basically the same from 2010-2018, so there'll be a wide inventory of parts as the car gets older. By keeping it "til the wheels fall off," w/reg service, in the rural locale where I live it will last a long time. You save money by not having to get the latest thing down the pike every few years. Being retired the thing still has

    It looks like the floor has magnets or some type of guidance for the vending machine. Great info ,giving Carvana a second chance , they had a problem with the key fobs on a vehicle , got to delete the purchase with the click of a mouse. Did some research and found the problem is not to every Spark EV so I’m giving them another shot because it was the easiest car buying experience ever.

      100% all the glitz,glamour and theatrics is to distract you from the fact that you’re overpaying for a well used vehicle. The reviews are all over the place for carvana some good many very bad. The quality control for Carvana has really gone down they’re buying vehicles with a lot of mechanical problems minimally repairing them then reselling it.

      Thanx for saying that. I hope it works out for you. I bought some shares at $18 a share. I thought "Ought Oh" when it dropped to $15. I bought more shares at $30 and some change. It's now at $45 or so. It is very volatile which happens a lot of times with young companies. They have yet to make a profit but Amazon went years without making a profit. I'm not saying they are gonna be Amazon but I said when I bought my 1st shares "Carvana might be worth $200 a share in 5 years and it might be worth zero." I still say that's the case. I normally do not take this type of gamble with investments but it was not much. I only bought 40 shares total. That's not much to gamble.

    I bought 1000 shares of Carvana at $9 dollars a share. I knew they were going to be a good company. Plus Millennial's don't like brick and mortar, they would rather buy online.

    • @ArkansasEV
      @ArkansasEV  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Me not having lots of money, I bought just a few shares at $18 and change. I bought more in the low 30's and when it was moving up and down like a coaster I'd sell high (55 or so in those days) and buy low 30's maybe 40's. I now have a measly couple dozen shares with no money invested. If they went broke tomorrow I'd be up $600 and change. No taxes either because it was done through my ROTH. You could sell $9,000 worth and then at worse you are even no matter what happens.

    • @ArkansasEV
      @ArkansasEV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      According to most polls I am the exact opposite of millennial in most ways. That generation gap you know. However, one reason I bought Carvana was exactly what you said. They like online ordering plus everyone loves the excitement of buying a new to them car but most also hate the process. I said when I bought my shares "Carvana could be worth $200 a share in 5 years and could be worth $0." I thought it was worth the gamble myself. I normally leave companies alone that have not made a profit.

    Customer reviews on the Carvana site average 4.7 stars. But if you go to HiYa, Yelp, the BBB or any number of other sites that allow you to leave reviews for businesses, most reviewers tell of a nightmarish experience; the averages of these reviews ranges from 1.5 stars to 2.5 stars. Obviously, this disparity calls for an explanation. By the way, I've looked all over the Carvana site and I cannot find out how to leave a review. That concerns me. Does Carvana employ a team of trolls to write fake reviews for their own site?

      Anytime I post anything about Carvana on the FB Volt owners page I get negative feedback as well from some. All I can speak to are my experiences. I have been very happy with them. Also, my adult son will go no place else. He loves Carvana for the same reasons I do...he despises traditional car dealers. A co-worker of mine bought a car just a few weeks ago from them and said he doubts that he'll ever go to anywhere else ever again. That's the only thing I can honestly say is how it went for me.

Sad. Looks like the walmart at "205 Deaderick Rd,
    Forrest City, AR 72335" will have a DC fast charger soon. Also, you can contact your local chevy dealer and if they sell Bolt EVs they have a 24kw DC fast charger they may allow you to use. Wont hurt to ask. maybe these guys do? ---> Central Chevrolet Cadillac 3207 Stadium Blvd, Jonesboro, AR 72404, USA

    • @ArkansasEV
      @ArkansasEV  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Funny you mention Central Chevrolet. I went by there yesterday to see if they had one. They did and I reported it to PlugShare. I talked to a salesman and he said they have sold one Bolt but don't have any at the moment and I suspect they may never get another one. The Chevy dealer in Paragould, where I live does not have one. Forrest City is 81 miles away. If I recharged in Jonesboro 22 miles away I could make it but if the charging stations were offline after getting there or out of order I'd be screwed. I could not make it back to Jonesboro.
      Car dealers are great if you are the type that ONLY cares about what your payment is gonna be. They'll screw you good then and you won't even know. All you'll know is what your payment is. I know bunches of people that only care about their payment.
      I should've mentioned one thing I like about Carvana is they give you a trade in price before knowing what you are gonna buy. Once at a dealer I had a deal negotiated but then eyed something I liked that was much cheaper. The dealer told me if I changed my mind and got that one it'd probably change my trade in value. See, it's all a numbers game. Also at Carvana for the first time ever I did not catch hell when turning down the extended warranty. It's done on the computer. At the dealer they start preaching at you about how much A/C condensers cost and what knot.

    • @TRYtoHELPyou
      @TRYtoHELPyou 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      great info all around, thanks. I bought a car on ebay (my leaf) it was delivered to the house. it was a single person dealer... He specialized in online sales. I was a little scared but i did to the initial test drive before i handed over the check. It was a great experience and i did not waste a day of my life dealing with unnecessary BS. I think home delivery of vehicles will become the norm.... if not, the despensery/local delivery location will. I have had 2 occurrences where dealers were crap and two that were good. The spark purchase was good but i knew what i wanted and the salesman was very down to earth. He only hit me a couple times with what i would call up-sells. I declined and he stopped the pressure. The other good one was a used car dealer, they handed us the keys and said take the car home drive it around for a few hours and then come back... That sold us on the fancy car we were looking. No sales pressure and they let the car sell itself :) . As for the bad we sold one car to a dealer and at the last moment they tried shaving off 500 bucks. It was my wife and parents that were there. I showed up said "lets go then" ... and they reaffirmed their original quote. That was an unnecessary experience. Second bad experience was another car the family bought (NEW CAR) and they kept saying 0 deductable for warranty and 0 APR... that was the big thing... signage everywhere. they litterally presented paperwork that said $500 deductable for all warranty events and 0.9% APR. Holy wowzers.... the signage everywhere stated otherwise and it took 2 hours to fix that and they only fixed it because my pops started to head out. He was mad and it too was unnecessary. As you mention, if the payment looks good things like that can just be a 'shrug' and an "ok then" by a non prudent person. So sad. Keep on uploading !

      I don't mind a dealer trying to up sale. Heck, I did that when I was a store manager and area marketing coordinator for Domino's Pizza. I made sure all my employees always asked "would you like extra cheese or a coke with that?" Where I mind is when they start telling you how stupid you are for not accepting their offer. "What? You don't want the extended warranty? Come on Mr. McPhink! Don't you know how much an A/C condenser cost? Do you have any idea how much blah blah cost cost to repair? Everyone gets the extended warranty because they realize how important it is." That's when I want to start cussing but I gently tell them again I don't want it and when the next round starts is when I might start using a few words that make my wife afraid I'm putting my soul in danger.

      I thougth the red Terrain was a really good price. I thought the Spark EV was a good price but not great. I've dealt with them enough now to know it depends. Some cars are really high, some are sort of high, some are just right, some are cheap, and some are bargains but not very many. Their pricing is all over the map and I think it's because they allegedly mark every vehicle up a certain amount so it depends on where they get them and how much they paid.

    • @ArkansasEV
      @ArkansasEV  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@privatear388 I did not do auto payment because it's a bad idea for me but perhaps not for you. The reason I didn't is because I view being ahead of your car payments a month or two as a very good idea. I was about 5 months ahead when I traded in my last car. I pay extra every month and sometimes when on the verge of wasting lets say $30 on something I don't need I"ll say to myself "why not pay an extra $30 on the car" and will do that sometimes instead.
      If you do the auto draft you can still pay extra if you want but if you want to skip a payment because you are ahead then you can't do that without contacting them and maybe not even then. See, sometimes I'll skip a car payment or two in a row and put that money toward a bill that's very close to being paid off. That'd be harder to do with auto draft. However, that does not mean it's a bad idea for most. I always think it's a good idea to pay extra if you can. Did you know if you can afford to pay 8 1/3% extra each month that's an extra payment a year. If you can pay 10% extra you could skip a payment in just 10 months if you were in a tight spot financially or if you just wanted to buy something you normally could not afford but it's the price of a car payment. Or to invest or whatever. Or, start to work on getting 2 months ahead, then 3 and so on and maybe pay it off a year early. Most, almost all, would not be financially harmed by 10% extra on their car payments.

This is because they start a week behind. In case you send the car back after 7 days they can't start the process until you've owned it a week and that throws them off. That puts them behind on getting you your new tags. They will automatically send you a temporary tag extension probably a few days before your temporary expires. You'll have your new tags before that one expires. If it's getting close you can call them but I never do and always get my new temps a few days before the expiration date. They claim they are "official Carvana documents" and won't let you see them until the last minute. Better take a lawyer with you - because it sure seems there's something they don't want you to notice before you sign. I wonder if they have all customers sign a non-disclosure agreement... that would mean that ALL of Carvana online reviews are made by people that work for Carvana. With all due respect sir, you lost a lot of money by keeping on trading in cars. Not only that, buying a lightly used car from places like Carvana or Carmax is always a mistake because it's overpriced with no discounts. I know haggling at a new car dealership is unpleasant but you can get a much better deal than buying a Carvana car or buying a used car from anywhere. Car dealerships (like Carvana) make a lot more profits selling used cars than new cars.
    For example, for all the money you spent on Carvana, you could have bought a brand new Chevy Volt and a brand new GMC Terrain SUV for your wife. Brand new cars get huge manufacturer rebates and dealership discounts. If you had negotiated hard and bought your car at the end of the month, you could have received a 7000 dollar discount on a new Terrain and a 5000 dollar discount on a new Volt. Instead, you got no discounts whatsoever on your used Carvana cars.

      Oh and let’s not go into financing when you don’t come with your own. Even if you do, they act as though they don’t have to work as hard for the money.

      It's a gimmick, they only load cars that are being picked up (bought already) anyway, selection has nothing to do with it.

      Uh, it's not hard at all to out deal a saleperson. The whole point of Carvana is to BYPASS a salesperson, saving the consumer time.

      Yep they have fallen so far. My later videos show how and why they fell in my view a couple years ago. For a couple years now I'd just as soon buy locally as from them. However, since I drive plug in cars those are hard to find locally.

      @Adrian Rivas Well said. I just did a video of my 5th purchase from Carvana. The Spark EV did not have enough range in winter so I bought a Chevy Volt. I know I trade too much but I'm done. I cannot trade again for at least 3 years.
      Anyway, on the video I just shot this week I was talking about my favorite part of Carvana is they don't hire car salesman. Then I accidentally, seriously, unscripted accidentally before I knew it went on a tirade about how much I hate car salesmen. I've watched that video twice and can't decide to post it or not. I sound like a raving lunatic but at the same time it's true and how I feel and slightly humerus I think. I have not decided. I despise car salesmen.
