There was ONE funny bit though, they had an image of Master Roshi from DBZ holding a mug of beer, but the card's name was "Frothy Mug Of Water", with the tagline of "You have been licensed for release in America and have been heavily censored. Lose a turn". (in the original censored DBZ, Roshi's mug of beer was colored blue, but they couldn't do anything about the froth! LOL)

The Axel F theme song has a firm spot on the soundtrack of the 80's. Along side the likes of Everybody wants to rule the world, Thriller, Whip it, Africa, and Money for Nothing. It's one of those songs that embodies the decade.
Film fact: Most of the funny dialogue in this film was totally improvised. In fact, in the supercops scene, the reason John Ashton (Taggart) was clenching his face was because he was desperately trying not to laugh. In that same scene, Judge Reinhold (Rosewood) was pinching his pocket because he was also trying not to laugh himself.
One of the funniest action comedy movies ever made! Originally Sylvester Stallone was going to star in the movie, and even wrote a draft of the script, which was more darker and more violent than the final cut of the film. When Paramount executives read the script, it was rejected and Stallone turned it into the 1986 action thriller COBRA.
This movie bridged the gap between outright comedy and outright action thriller so perfectly. It weaved in and out of both moods so effortlessly it's quite remarkable.

Absolutely everything about it. Fashion, car's,clubs, music. Everything fantastic 80s. You guys just have to watch number 2. Great job guys. Best wishes from UK🇬🇧👍🏻
I read a book about "social engineering" and they basically used Axel Foley as the perfect example of somebody who can social engineer people into doing things against their normal will or practices. Basically Axel Foley knows how to manipulate things by creating outrage in the boss or whoever is involved will be willing to do anything to prevent that from happening
The main riff from the theme is my favorite synth riff. So I had to pause the video to go fire up a synth a play it. I have played that riff so many times I can do it with my eyes closed. I don't always nail it eyes closed, but I can get it. All that muscle memory from playing it so many times.
A very long time ago, when I bought my first really professional keyboard, I learned and started playing this theme song in the first 10 minutes. I played it using every sound that keyboard could do. Any time I mess with a keyboard, that's the first thing I play.
Two awesome things about this movie: 1. The guy playing inspector Todd (Axel's boss in Detroit) was a real inspector who was only supposed to be in an advisory role, but was so good they decided to cast him. 2. Sly Stallone was supposed to play Axel Foley. He had a signed contract and the studio was really afraid that he'd sue them for breach of contract when they wanted to go with Eddie Murphy to make it into more of a comedy. Stallone ok'd it though and the studio commissioned Cobra as a sort of compensation.
Great movie, great cast all around. And a killer soundtrack. Wonderful balance between comedy and action, the 80s were great at that. To think: John Ashton (Taggart) was only 36 when this movie was made! He is also great in the totally (still) underrated "Midnight Run" with DeNiro and Grodin. That one's worth a watch.
Judge Reinhold was hilarious in this as well. His character Billy grew alot in number 2 and is one of the funniest characters. One of Reinhold's earliest films is "Fast Times At Ridgemont High". (1982). You guys should definitely react to that one.
@ryanfeit1420 While he was never regarded as a great actor, I did enjoy him in many roles. He's great in the Beverly Hills Cop franchise, did well in Santa Clause and I really liked "Vice Versa" (1988) which was considered to be the poor-mans "Big" at the time. Wrongfully so I'd say, It was fun and it seemed Judge had a blast during the shoot.
Ah man, this is one of my all-time favorite movies! The mix of comedy and seriousness makes it feel so genuine. Wish more movies could pull off the tonal balance this one does.

For me, the pivotal scene of the movie is in the strip club. Axel goes from wisecracking smartass to experienced police officer in the blink of an eye. Taggart, who has until this point only seen the smartass side of him, recognizes the change and starts taking Axel seriously for the first time. Axel Foley really is a great character (with a killer theme tune), and here Eddie Murphy showed that he wasn't just a comedian, he was an _actor._ Please watch Beverly Hills Cop 2, it's great. I didn't personally like 3 very much (it's the only one of the first three I've only bothered to watch once), but if you want to watch the one that just came out, I suppose you should watch that too. I haven't seen the recent one yet, so I have no opinion on that.
Beverly Hills Cop II is the BEST, directed by the impeccable Tony Scott! Gotta check that out too. No rush on 3, it’s very clearly a script for a different movie with Axel Foley subbed in as the lead
Guys this is my favorite action comedy of all time glad u came around , and by the way 80’s music tracks the won Oscars are often considered the best movie specific songs of all time !
So the guy that gave the bananas to Axel is Damon Wayans, one of the cornerstones of the Wayans family. You wanna talk comedy, the Wayans family from Keenen on down is legit one of the funniest families in comedy. Check out Major Payne.
Another fact: Sylvester Stallone was originally supposed to play the role of Axel Foley. The script was to be expanded to include numerous action scenes. This meant that the planned budget was to rise to around 20 million US dollars. However, the studio did not want to increase the budget and Stallone could not be persuaded to shoot the film without major action scenes. So Stallone was dropped as the lead actor and Eddie Murphy was hired instead. Instead of the expensive action scenes, the script was expanded to include comedic elements and tailored to Eddie Murphy.
This is indeed such an '80s movie, everything from the vibe to fashion the Kick-Ass soundtrack. All of it is just amazing. I was so happy to see Axel f carried on this energy...... Also in my opinion Serge steals the show 😂, please watch the 2, 3 and Axle F. They are all amazing
This is such a good movie, the trilogy was my childhood. Very iconic right off the bat. I really like the 3rd movie as well. Axel is a great, smart and lovable character.
Those leather suits on those 2 extra's were variants from Eddie Murphy's comedy tour "Dilerious". That's why Eddie was laughing, it was suprise from the film crew.
Love your reaction :) seen this movie a million times, my dad had it recorded on VHS, as was done back in the day lol. Just watched the new one last week, I actually enjoyed it :)
BHC is an absolute classic. So much great chemistry between all the actors. Shame none of the sequels were able to capture the same magic or be as good. Fun fact: the hotel worker that Axel speaks to at the end of the movie when asking about the robes is actually the director of the film, Martin Brest.
Eddie Murphy's 4th film, first leading role and also his debut as producer. The beginning of his reign as an comedy superstar on film. From the late Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer (pre-Top Gun). Grammy Award winner for Best Score Soundtrack in Visual Media, Oscar-nominated for Best Original Screenplay and the No.1 film of 1984 (dethroning Ghostbusters). The score is by Harold Faltermeyer and the 'Axel F' theme is truly legendary. As well, this film's soundtrack is one of the greatest of the era. Movies about Cops prior to BHC were either dramas and or thrillers. Afterwards more comedies about cop characters came to be. Part 2 (directed by Tony Scott) is a major winner of an sequel. Part 3 (directed by John Landis) is the worse and you could be disappointed. The 4th installment aka Axel F on Netflix, pre-40th anniversary is a must see with so much goodness.
This movie is my childhood, have watched the first and second movie so many times. Even recorded the sound of the 2nd movie to a casette tape from the tv!! and listened to it on my freestyle when we were on vacation trips. so i visualized the scenes in my head by listening to it :)
This movie was actually the first ever Action comedy movie released then followed by 48 hours so Eddie Murphy was the first action comedy movie star in the 80s so this movie made history This wasn't the first action movie made but it's first time ever comedy was introduced to the action genre so Eddie was a pioneer That's why Eddie Murphy is the GOAT of comedy this was his transition period from being a comedian to a full time actor
Ferris Beuller's day off came out in 1986. This movie came out in 1984. Also interesting timing to be getting into this series - they just released the 4th movie on netflix like a month ago - 40 years after the first one!
I loved it when he randomly threw Cleveland under the bus as well. Maybe the script writers thought they'd crapped on Detroit enough, where else is in America is a pretty shitty city?... Cleveland 😂 Or maybe it was an Eddie ad lib?
Seriously, this is pretty much a perfect film. It has everything you want in terms of action and comedy and Murphy delivers. HARD. Great supporting cast and simple plot also keeping everything engaging. Part 2 is generally viewed as not quite as good as this one, but is still pretty damn close and absolutely worth watching! Stay nice, dudes!!!
Eddy Murphy was made for Donkey in Shrek; hes all I think of now when someone mentions Eddy Murphy, since I've never seen Beverly Hills Cop. Nice reaction, as usual!
There was an amazing action comedy released recently called “hundreds of beavers”, essentially it’s like a live action black and white cartoon. I cant recommend it enough.
Eddie Murphy - Raw 1987 Delirious 1983 Beverley Hills Cop 1984 I was 14 years old when this movie came out and at the time this design was from Michael Jacksons Thriller video 1983. The reactor got it right when he said Michael Jackson.

@@deadponic117 The acting fell a bit flat to me and while I really appreciated the amount of practical stunts instead of using CGI, I found the camera angles and sporadic jumpcuts during the stuntwork rather disorienting
Great review! Per the producers most of Eddie's lines were improvised because they said that he was funnier than anything that they would write. And part 2 is just as good and a bit funnier.

Man it’s been ages since I seen this one. I had forgotten it started off that way.
Either way another fun upload from you guys.
One of the greatest action comedy movies of all time
BHC is an absolute classic. So much great chemistry between all the actors. Shame none of the sequels were able to capture the same magic or be as good. Fun fact: the hotel worker that Axel speaks to at the end of the movie when asking about the robes is actually the director of the film, Martin Brest.
Bogomil (Ronnie cox) was also in Total Recall
Eddie Murphy is also so charismatic in 48 hours and the Golden Child
One of the all time greats! Held the record for highest grossing rated R movie for like 20 years
Did it go unnoticed that Altaf wants to replace his best friend with Axel? Such a sad day in Nice Dudes Land.
I had the same thought! How could he say that to him like that
@@roflpill i know... i know... shhh it's okay dude. maybe he didn't mean it. shhh. there there now dude.
Yeah we've heard that even Eddie Murphy doesn't like the third one. We're looking forward to watching Beverly Hills Cop 2 and possibly Axel F!
I love the third movie. Has some great scenes.
@@NiceDudeMovieNight don't skip the third :(
the banana guy is one of the wayans brothers never knew he was in this - 12:01
This movie is my childhood, have watched the first and second movie so many times. Even recorded the sound of the 2nd movie to a casette tape from the tv!! and listened to it on my freestyle when we were on vacation trips. so i visualized the scenes in my head by listening to it :)
I don't think I've ever seen you guys so happy watching a movie. great to see. I look forward to the rest.
This movie was actually the first ever Action comedy movie released then followed by 48 hours so Eddie Murphy was the first action comedy movie star in the 80s so this movie made history
This wasn't the first action movie made but it's first time ever comedy was introduced to the action genre so Eddie was a pioneer
That's why Eddie Murphy is the GOAT of comedy this was his transition period from being a comedian to a full time actor
Ferris Beuller's day off came out in 1986. This movie came out in 1984.
Also interesting timing to be getting into this series - they just released the 4th movie on netflix like a month ago - 40 years after the first one!
Bronson is in a hilarious detective buddy movie with John Larroquette
I loved it when he randomly threw Cleveland under the bus as well.
Maybe the script writers thought they'd crapped on Detroit enough, where else is in America is a pretty shitty city?... Cleveland 😂
Or maybe it was an Eddie ad lib?
You two have such an unfettered joy for movies that is so charming! I love your channel and hope you continue to watch my favourties.
Thank you so much!!
Favorite Eddie Murphy movie, this is second. Harlem Nights is AMAZING
His boss Inspector Todd was a TOTALLY LEGIT DETROIT COP!! Gil Hill was a homicide detective and even ran for mayor of Detroit.
Oh nice. I quite enjoyed the new one a mere few days ago so this will be a great way to hopefully rewatch all three oldies!
(Commenting before watching the video) You haven’t watch that one? Oh this feels like absolutely the kind of movie you’ll enjoy
7:15 That leather suit is what Eddie Murphy wore while filming his stand up special "Raw"
Eddie Murphy - Raw 1987
Delirious 1983
Beverley Hills Cop 1984
I was 14 years old when this movie came out and at the time this design was from Michael Jacksons Thriller video 1983. The joke is "why are these weirdos walking around in leather outfits in this heat in southern California dressed like Michael Jackson". Definitely not Delirious design. The reactor got it right when he said Michael Jackson.
Rewatched this one recently after being a bit dissapointed with the new one. Truly a classic, and one of Murphy's earliest roles in his career. Stay nice dudes!
What about the sequel was disappointing to you?
The new one was great and definitely made up for the third film.
@@deadponic117 The acting fell a bit flat to me and while I really appreciated the amount of practical stunts instead of using CGI, I found the camera angles and sporadic jumpcuts during the stuntwork rather disorienting
@@alucard624 Oh yeah, the third one was dogwater for sure. The new one was kinda mid to me, not bad but a bit average
The latest one was so weak. Eddie is barely trying, the jokes fall flat and its just member berries. They even ruined the music
Billy really comes into his own in the sequel.
Super enjoyable‼️‼️‼️ Y'all do the best editing job piecing it together so it feels like a whole movie - REALLLLLY impressive 🙏
Great review! Per the producers most of Eddie's lines were improvised because they said that he was funnier than anything that they would write. And part 2 is just as good and a bit funnier.
I can really recommend another movie called FLETCH from 1985 where Harold Faltermeyer did the music. It's a good movie too.
Chevy Chase was awesome in that movie...the sequel Fletch Lives wasn't bad either....
Love you guys wish u upload more your great. When Taggart put his hand on his nose when Foley told the super cop story he broke haha 😜
