We are all our worst critics, from where I'm sitting your appear to be working magic on the scenics, my personal opinion, a couple of trees would be the cherry on the top, for the farm yard. There's a product called "Dirty Down Rust Effect"...I've used it a fair bit on steel structures, like the coaling tower, it works a treat.
Wow its looking great your making a lot of progress i like what you’ve done with those broken down buildings and as you said just buy a tractor and distress it a bit 😊😊😊
Looks great! You have created a seriously good model railway layout, and still you doubt your ability. If you think back to when you started and the improvement in your skill set and more importantly your willingness to share your experiences (good, bad and ugly) you should be extremely proud of yourself. I love your videos simply because they are so easy to watch and learn from. Thank you. Paul C.
Hi, that insulation piece in the farmyard could become puddles maybe?? Looking great. You may like to message OO Bill about your locomotive DCC upgrades as he may like to do a series on it for his TH-cam channel.
Thank you. I recently watched a video where the guy used glass microscope slides to create puddles. Looked really effective. Thanks for the suggestion about the DCC upgrades 👍
@Grandadstrainroom-pn3tt your welcome, you definitely underestimate your skills. Top class modelling, absolutely brilliant layout. I've only been in the hobby about 20 months so I'm still learning.
You keep saying how rudimentary your skills are, but I think what you've done is marvelous! I really enjoy your videos, so thanks for sharing your progress! All the best.
It "looks right" to me, as you now have it. The only opinion that matters is yours, so stop when it "looks right" to you. Thanks for the videos; they are always a treat for me.
For someone who "doesn't know what I am doing", you have done a very good job of the disused farm area, well done. Al👍ways a pleasure to watch keep them coming regards Barry.
Regarding the tractor......if you need to strip the paint off submerge it in neat dettol!.....doesn't eat plastic either! Just wear gloves when handling and an old toothbrush will be needed to agitate the corners and creases etc......just don't use the wife's toothbrush 😬🤣
Looking awesome 🤩, just a suggestion. How’s about a tree growing out of the stables ? I do a lot of travelling and you often see old forgotten buildings with a tree growing out of the roof and generally forgotten. Whole layout is looking good 👍
You really do have a knack for making scenes looking natural. If I was the boss of WWScenics, I would send you a free static grass applicator to review and keep. With regards DCC decoder fitting, I reckon TMC or Digitrains would probably be safe bets.
Thanks very much. 😊 A few people have suggested TMC so I’ll check them out. Digitrains is only about half an hour away from me so might be worth having a look at them 👍
Looking great the farm area. When using static grass don't put the clip near the surface you are doing the clip gives a negative charge. Thomas says a big hello Thanks Graham
I can recommend The Model Centre to upgrade your locoomotives to DCC.I have always found their service to be excellent and they are really proficient at weathering locos.wagons etc.
Wow it's looking fantastic. You are very talented as you say you can always add little extras over the years. I have seen some nice Duck ponds on some layouts. An old Tractor is a great idea maybe a worn out Trailer with rotten floor boards stop it Richard I'm not interfering. Your Layout is wonderful. Best wishes Richard Canterbury
Hello there. Your building a really excellent layout. Thanks for sharing. Regarding loco repairs and DCC conversion, the two main players on TH-cam are OOBill & DansModelRailways, who does a "Trash to Track" series. Both have repaired locos for me in the past to a very high standard. Dan runs a DCC layout, so he's probably more experienced in DCC conversions, but I've seen OOBill do them too. There are plenty of other people who repair locos, including some local model shops, and quick Google & Facebook searches will provide some names, too. The other option is to join a local model railway club if you have one nearby. There'll be members who will have the necessary skills to help. To be honest, the locos you have decided not to convert probably only need a good service (clean & re-lubricarion). It's the sort of thing I do with my own collection, and I'm no expert. After watching some of Bill & Dan's videos, you may decide to have a go yourself! Good luck & happy modelling.
Hi, love what you have done. One comment, the buildings all have bright white window sills- if they were toned down with a dirty wash they wouldn’t stand out so much. Just a thought. Also, was looking at where you have all your coaches sitting. You were talking about doing a town scene there. If you did, you could fit a drawer in there that slid out and could hold some excess stock.
A very informative video with your scenic effects around the farm. Love the detail and for me, it's just right. Perhaps a few flowers could be added if you feel up to it!! As for your static grass applicator, I assume you're using 2 x AA batteries which provide only 3 volts. Others that use 9V give a better lift, if you are ever thinking of trading up. However the hoover provides good results too!
Things on the layout are looking great. That model shop you found in the next town over might have some leads on some place to get the locos upgraded to DCC. those shops are amazing with what they might have access too. and when you go to the exhibition try to identify other possible shops that are close to home.
Yeah maybe try your local model shop or something, the older models you can still get them DCC fitted, you just have to have the decoders hard wired to the motors, I’ve got quite a few older models that are DCC fitted, only ones that are a bit fiddly are the split chassis models but they can still be converted also, try and speak to your local model shop or model railway club for advice. That’s the best you can do. 👍🏻
Also if the models are tender driven, they can be DCC fitted also as I just recently got an older Hornby B17 Manchester United which is tender driven, took it to my local model shop to get it hard wired to DCC for around £30 because I already had some decoders to use, but if you know how to solder etc it’d be relatively easy.
@@Grandadstrainroom-pn3tt no problem, my grandad did alot of them when the collection was his, until I’ve inherited them but I did get some done the same way, it’s fairly easy to do if you’re good at soldering, you just gotta solder the correct wires for the decoder to where the motor would connect to to pickups etc, if you know what I mean and you’re good to go, if you’re still unsure then I’d recommend speaking to a local model shop or something like that.
@briansewell7263 I’m sure I’ll spot an iron maiden t shirt! Planning on getting there in the morning. I’ll have my grey hoodie on. I’ll look out for you 👍
Thanks. I’ve spaced all my track at ‘Streamline’ spacing. Centre to centre is roughly 50mm giving a gap from rail to rail of 34mm (OO gauge). I used a Peco 6ft Way gauge to make it easier They are dirt cheap to buy. Just need to be careful on curves if using tight radius curves as this gap wouldn’t be enough. Hope that helps 👍
In general looks too clean for a farm yard, missing the aid disused tractor's (white metal kits?) old feeding troughs, farm machinery old packing crates. I used to deliver fertilizer to farms (before my HGV was suspended due to health reasons) no farm was the same but all had a mini scrape yard of metal & wooden waste around.

Looking magnificent. It is amazing what you have done with the scenery.
Thanks very much ☺️
You are a very good artist as well as an engineer. It's all looking very convincing.
Thank you. I’m never quite sure how things will turn out but it’s all good fun 😊

Hi from Thomas cummack😊
Couldn't agree more
Hi. Dan's model railways on you tube. He services locos and fits dcc to them.
Thanks for that. I’ll have a look 👍
Lovely scene. Definitely gives one the idea of an abandoned farm. Great job.
Thanks very much ☺️

Your static grass technique with the hoover is brilliant!......it creates a none uniform effect .........winging it 😂😂, great layout pal

A great addition to the layout! Nice work on the different 'greens', it really comes alive!
Thanks very much 👍

Love it! I’ve got some smaller trees on the go so they could work well. Thank you 👍
Your derelict farm scene is really coming together. ‘Layering’ is what it is all about. Well done.
Thanks very much 😊
Looking very good its your layout so enjoy it
Thank you 😊
Hi again. You definitely underestimate your modelling skills and I think you could win awards a great transformation keep it coming. Brilliant mate
Bless you! Thanks very much. Cheers, Andy
Brilliant job looks the part no end and loads of potential to tinker with when the rest of the layout is done and your bored
Thanks. I’m sure I’ll keep going back and adding bits…

Thank you. That’s a really good point - I’d not noticed but they do look a little clean! That’s a clever idea about a drawer. 👍
You’ve got a lovely layout there, treat yourself to a WWScenics micro applicator. What a difference that will make.
Thanks. I might invest in one. I’ve struggled long enough with this one! 👍

Hi how are you today hope you are keeping busy 😊 from Thomas cummack
Hi Thomas. I’m very well thank you 😊
The locos and issues with T.M.C can do it . Or a shout out to Dan's model railways he's on you tube . He can do it for you . Hope this helps
It does, thank you. TMC seems to be a popular suggestion 👍

Looking good, coming along nicely
Drop me a message if you go Caistorail and id be up for a meet up n a brew!!

Thank you. Hopefully, I should be there tomorrow (Saturday) 👍

Best laid plans! Not sure if/when I’ll make it today. A 30 minute job hasn’t turned out how I thought…
@Grandadstrainroom-pn3tt shame, decent show for a small local club, how far you from it?
I'm going to knock a layout up soon, on your twin track lines how much distance is there between each side of tracks, as it looks good?
Thanks. I’ve spaced all my track at ‘Streamline’ spacing. Centre to centre is roughly 50mm giving a gap from rail to rail of 34mm (OO gauge).
