If you still have the old injector, you can have it rebuilt and put it in your spare parts inventory.

I still have it but the injector shop was unable to find the parts to fix it

1"5/16 is actually a 30MM. You can buy a cheepo Harbor Freight open end wrench and grind it thinner.

When you install a Ford Dover or earlier Dorset engine you dont tighten the injector down fully before you install the injector pipe. Nip it down then get the injector pipe installed or started. This prevents forcing the pipe to start. Then you can tighten the injector down and fully seat the injector pipe and then the sealing ring and nut against the head. That small rubber seal on the inlet fitting to the injector doesnt do much. Its meant to stop fuel dribbling into the sump if the injector pipe cracks or is over tightened. I see 100's of injectors come in to be rebuilt a year without those seals. Like to know wat parts the shop couldnt get for it. No special parts in an LRB series injector. The CAV/Delphi nozzle number for your engine is 6801018. You should track sum down and keep a set on the boat. They come in s protective plastic tube/container so water etc cant get at them.

Thanks for the clarification on the install. I’m not exactly sure what part he couldn’t find. I had the impression there was something internally wrong but he also said something about the sleeve. He was hurried and didn’t really explain it well. I’ll have to look for that part you gave the number for. Thanks!

Theres only 5 internal parts to that style injector plus the injector nozzle and then the nozzle nut. Pity the freight would be so much or Id send you an injector with all brand new internals to keep on board. A handy spare is the longest (number 6) injector pipe too. Also I make spanners/wrenches like the one you bought for Dorset/Dover/135hp owners. Couple of things , that style will work but to make it better, cut/grind the outsides of the jaws down a bit, then heat it up where the shank meets the jaw and bend to about 25-30 degrees, so that when the jaw is flat on a table or bench the shank is pointing up. This will let it acess the rear pipes a lot better.

@@matui6983 - cool tip on the wrench - does it take a lot of heat to bend it ? I also never thought about having a spare pipe on board - thanks !

Using a small ptopane torch you can heat it up enuf to bend it.
Ford Dorsets/Dovers( like yours) and the Turkish built Otosans (same engine as yours but different oil pump, waterpump and longer sump/oilpan) all break injector pipes. Most commonly because the pipe clamps get left off or thru improper fitting. Its normally numbers 1-4 pipes that break. And old damaged pipe can be located and the pipe removed from the injector end union and a new straight pipe made for it usi g the original nut and union. Then you can bend to watever shape is needed. The earlier engine pipes are a different shape to yours so always look for a Dover/Lehman engines injector pipes.

Hey Ron, what did the engine start doing to prompted you to check the injector? Thanks, enjoy your videos!

Although we had noticed over a period of years that the engine increasingly wasn’t happy above 1600 rpm, we did not connect that to checking the injectors. We had an opportunity to have the engine rebuilt and because it had a serious oil leak for years combined with the slow degradation in performance, I took it. When the mechanic pulled the injectors he discovered the damage. There was also damage to the piston and the rings were stuck. So it is possible that was all part of the rpm problem. We don’t know for sure yet as we still have not been able to get underway.

What happened to the old injector?

    • @CruisingThisOldBoat

The sleeve was partially melted and apparently it had some sort of internal damage
