    Very clever potting bench should be really handy here we are looking forward to cooler weather and fall while you prepare for spring. Our Food Bank food give a way's do not cost us anything as of now. We just have to be there and pick it up with a Food Bank card.

      I’m sure there are some free ones available for those that really need it! But this one is always well worth the $50 and it’s great when I shop as irregularly as I do to get that mid cycle bump!

    Great haul, the mandarins look amazing. Love the potting table, just a tip..I have those little greenhouses. Be sure to attach them to something. The wind will blow up under them and topple them over, ruining all your hard work. Don't ask me how I know...🙄

    My daughter attends Canberra Uni, they have a weekly free food service for students. She picks up a few meals and ingredients and pays for some fruit and veg. It saves her a lot of money and she cooks it all and freezes meal sized portions for herself. She loves to cook and has more kitchen stuff than anything else. She takes up 2 people's space in the kitchen cupboards, fortunately one of the other 2 girls she shares with has almost no kitchen items so she's got room. They also eat out a lot, which my daughter can't afford to do. I am thankful that I taught my kids to cook, it's so important. This month's food hamper looks good Nyssa, those Kipfler potatoes look beautiful. I tried to grow them one year, but they didn't make it. I think the possums/mice got to them. Your potting bench is very impressive, certainly going to be a huge benefit. I look forward to seeing it in action.

      We have never had much luck growing the kinglet style either so will make the most of these they’re a lovely creamy colour!
      That is awesome that they have the food avail and the kitchen to be able to cook for themselves instead of relying on Instant/what they can buy!

      We pulled down some of the walls of the old hot house because we had all these plans to use some windows I got really cheap to build another small one and turn the old hothouse frame (its all made in cypress) into a spare room for when my mum visits or an office space! But life got away from us as usual and the new hot house hasn't been built yet!

    • @CrazyGrandmaWeaz
      @CrazyGrandmaWeaz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OurSmallFootprint I've been gathering old windows and patio doors too. I was gifted a hoop house style one so needless to say this one will be first.

    • @OurSmallFootprint
      @OurSmallFootprint  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CrazyGrandmaWeaz The little ones I bought were only $29 from Bunnings and whilst I hate getting interim measures and I'd prefer to get the real one done, some things have to be put on the backburner, so I'll manage! The garden and the grey water are the more important tasks atm, and I'll make do! :D. But the potting bench needed to be done before I started, the back issues I got from crouching over tables for hours a day for weeks getting all the seedlings done was hard!

    Super new here (love what I've seen so far!). I looked up your location's weather based on your PO box because I was curious about your growing season. Do you not often have seeds etc in yet? I am in Vermont in the US so our growing season is short and high 60s/low 70s highs and warmer than 45 for lows and we'd have already planted oodles. I know you were poorly recently so maybe that's part of why? Not judging, just curious! I'm only 3 seasons into gardening!

    • @OurSmallFootprint
      @OurSmallFootprint  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We're in a little bit of a valley pocket here, and we generally get a last frost mid to late september (based on our weather station over the last few years, so I would normally have turnips/beets/cabbages/sprouting broccoli etc in the ground already! But partly I've been ill and partly we took down the side of the garden space to do an upgrade and it hasn't been fixed yet, I'm pushing Hubby to get it done asap! atm the Guinea Fowl and the cockatoos etc have access to the garden and they keep eating the seedlings/seeds straight out of the beds, so we need that side and netting back up before I want to put stuff out!
      We're lucky though, because we have a really long growing season, so our first frost isn't until Mid May generally speaking, so even though I'm behind, I keep telling myself that It will all work out ok in the end! lol
      We get up to 40+ degrees over summer and have 20+degree nights, so everything grows quite quick and well over the summer here, and because its nice and long we have some leeway, but it is definitely weighing on me that I've got nothing started yet!

    Hey Nyssa. Beautiful job on the potters bench. I’m curious do you have a video where you show how you use your kitchen. Primarily the outside cooking portion. I see kind of the things you use but I’m wondering if you have something where you show each way you cook and what your using. My husband is going to set me up an outside summer kitchen to help keep the electric bill down

    • @OurSmallFootprint
      @OurSmallFootprint  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't have much footage atm, it is such a cluttered mess, we are still working so hard on figuring out how to enclose a pantry and get it set up a little better! As we get the structure more permanent (we have a lot of temporary parts of the kitchen atm) I'll share what we do! We need to turn some of the benches around because I end up having to walk around things a lot atm, it gets frustrating, I pause the camera a lot in my cooking videos lol, because I have to go around the other side of the kitchen to wash my hands or up on the building to get something from my pantry, or to the other side of the patio for the fridge lol.
