The Glass House is a landmark destination. Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright, world-famous architect Richard Clements, Jr. designed and owned this property along with the Timber Cove Inn. Located two hours north of San Francisco on the Sonoma Coast, this 3+-acre property was extensively remodeled and landscaped by its current owners. No expense was spared.
Perched upon Cemetery Point, so named by Ansel Adams who photographed the property, the house is built on a rocky promontory, which juts 300 feet into the Pacific Ocean. Enter through a private gate, meander down a beautiful path among heather and succulent gardens, pass a historic, private cemetery and cross an isthmus of land, with cliffs dropping dramatically down to the crashing surf below. Cemetery Creek, with impressive winter waterfalls, empties onto the private beach. Launch your kayak and dive for abalone right outside the house; cast your fishing line from the deck as you enjoy your hot tub.
The Glass House is a jewel. The one bedroom, one bath, stone and glass house was remodeled with the finest finishes, never intended for resale. The house has three decks, the ultimate custom stone hot tub within salt spray of ocean waves, with the best ocean views in the world. A huge fireplace is the focal point of the cozy lower living room, floor to ceiling Starphire glass affords amazing views of crashing waves, whales, seals, seabirds, and sunsets over the Pacific. You must "sea" it to believe it!
I would like to live in such a place someday in my life, maybe life will give me such an opportunity one day, I love the sea, that's why I have been living by the sea for over 30 years

Having spent most of my life within spitting distance of the Pacific - trust me, this house needs a live-in window washer. By the time he or she is done at one end - it's time to start again on the other end...

It's not like you might think - this house is far to the north of Malibu, where dense bone-chilling fogs hang for days - especially in the summers - and the windows get coated with salt. Owning a house like this one is a never-ending chore. When conditions are right it's an incredible thing of beauty - when they aren't, and you can hear the surf but not see it, it's time to bundle up and stay inside or take a drive inland to warm up a little...@@debralegorreta1375

No way in hell I’d live there. Constant humidity and noisy surf. Everything would be constantly damp. One earthquake in the right location and it all falls into the ocean. One wrong move and you fall into the ocean.

I don’t trust the ocean enough to build a home on it. Whilst beautiful in concept, every storm would make me anxious. Good thing I have the spirits on the property to calm me. 🙃

I always ask the same questions regarding houses perched in places like this. How does clean water get to it? Where does the waste water go? And then, of course, since this is the west coast of California....the earthquakes. The homeowners insurance must be outrageous too.
Homes built on rock are MUCH more stable during earthquakes than homes built on sand or dirt or clay. The waste and clean water pipes are built into the outstretch of land, just under the walkway to the house.
Stay in Omaha, Mr. Fritz. It's far more sensible.
