My first trip into the alpines was not terrible but it was a great learning experience. I also worked hard to get up to a meadow and wore cotton pants and merino wool over a light skin t. Everything was soaked and hung out to dry over night. My morning was very energetic trying to get them on frozen! Needless to say the work to get back to the car and home left me warm and ready to fight another day. And plan a better winter trip into the alpines. Luv my winter trips 100%.
I’m very cold weather experienced from manual labor, snowboarding and snowmobiling. The rain coat on the inside as a vapor barrier and all you said is something that I never thought about because the whole hiking sweating then stationary cooling down doesn’t actually come into play with those other situations of my experience. You have a knack for conveying information I need very efficiently. Thanks, I’m using all I can for my biggest winter backpacking push this year. Lots of gear and a few small test outings the last two years are coming down to the big show for me personally in a few weeks. Thanks 😊❤️🇺🇸❄️☃️🛷⛺️🔥🌄

Great advice and explanations. Moisture is hard to content with. that's why in the old days we just wore flannel or light wool as the outer. When you sweat it out, the ice / snow crystals can just be knocked out of it when it freezes.

So true ! Dry camp clothes is the most important thing in winter and even in other seasons when the temperature can be challenging. All my camp clothes are kept in a dry bag. Nice shots of your camp at the end , just wow!
I might put up a full camp video, just very relaxed camp but great scenery.

@@KaneDoesOutdoors I’ve got the x mid pro 1 but not got it out in snow yet, it’s on the list when we finally get a decent snow fall in the UK

@kanedoesoutdoors Also noticed the X-MId, guess that's the solid we saw in previous videos, I've been swaying between the Pro and Solid, the Pro weight advantage is so attractive but I cannot help believing the Solid is a much more appropriate shelter for our Canada Rockies climate, thoughts?
@@DirtRiderLife I bought the 1p solid and pro this year with the intention of keeping one. Kept the solid since my bag kept touching the fly on the pro and got wet from condensation a few times. More of a size issue there since I’m tall. I really like both but condensation is an issue on any integrated single wall tent - nothing to do with the x-mid design.
In this video it’s the 1p solid fly only. Been using it like that and it’s great, but with my big winter sleeping bag it’s a little tight. Going to try the 2p fly. That should be a palace.
I’m really sold on the x-mid design, my dream would be a modular dcf version to deal with condensation better and have the option for a ridiculously light fly only pitch. I might get a 2p pro for summer 🤷♂️

It was about -15C/5F at the time. With no wind and well dressed that’s almost ideal. Went down to -20C at night, but again no wind at all. I just posted a full trip video of that night ✌️

I went bicycle touring last week in the low 30's and didn't bring my extra set of under armor, and it took me an hour and a half to stop shivering in my nice sea to summit ascent 3 bag, on top of my xtherm max pad. I probably would've warmed up faster if I took off my clothes and got in the bag, I was tired and the cold was making me just want to get into my bag. Good video thanks for the advice.
When I’m soaked I keep my clothes on like you did. Takes a bit longer to warm up but at least they dry out overnight.
@@KaneDoesOutdoors yea after they dried up after the hour and a half, and I had to take them off because I was getting to warm in my sleeping set up. Always trying to learn from people who camp in the cold regularly.

Just curious if your inside layers are wet what do you do with them to prevent them freezing overnight?
I wear them to bed. Take them off and you have rock hard clothes in the morning that are impossible to put on.
