The only great thing I can say for AEW is that they really created a LEGIT brand split, you just feel the brand split is legit, unlike Raw and Smackdown.

I think Punk was medically cleared or healed around April, so the little behind the scenes hijinks and bullshit has robbed them of at least 3 months where he could have returned.
This whole thing has been absolutely nonsense.
AEW will squander every opportunity. Once they got the approval for punk to come back, they should have built an angle. Spend at least two months building shit up before he appears. Make it look like he's fired. Have random power outages, sound issues, have random knocked out guys being found backstage. Build a disgruntled employee gimmick. I'm fired but I will burn this place down. Instead its just Tony saying cm punk will be back on x date. No surprises at all.

It would be really interesting to see if AEW Collision turns into an exciting show with real pro rasslers and Tony lets The Bucks and their friends play on Dynamite. This would be a great way to settle the modern play wrestling vs old school wrestling debate once and for all.

I don’t nor have I EVER seen this as “modern play wrestling vs old school wrestling” I see this as GOOD Wrestling and Bad wrestling. A good match gets you interested in it. IE Steamboat and Savage at Mania Three. There is a list of these matches. Good matches happen in many eras and we’re done by the people capable of having them. Then there is the dumpster fire that is AEW and the trash that is modern WWE.

I was at the San Diego show. Definitely a mixed reaction but it was fairly positive and mainly just a lot of “CM PUNK” chants.

It’s amazing to listen to how fast Jim can put an angle together on the spot given circumstances. That’s one reason I love listening to him. He can take any situation and come up with something to make money/sell tickets. And the way he describes shit is hilarious. All three of you guys are correct. They had to keep coming up with ideas because they weren’t on guaranteed contracts like they are now. They made money based on how you drew. Today, they get a paycheck regardless, which is why you see so much “laaaaaazy booking”. That also has to do with the clowns these days thinking they know everything about the business so they don’t listen to the ones that do know how to draw money, how to have a match that people want to watch, so why have a Booker if they’re just gonna do whatever the fuck they want to do anyway? Honestly hoping it's Punk and Omega at the next ppv. Matty and Nicky can kick rocks but Punk and Omega could have a match. It'd be one of AEW's most anticipated matches ever for sure. Winner of Punk/Omega goes into a program with MJF with the other being the 3rd party in the situation.
They don’t mesh well. Kenny has the back and forth matches with no selling and high spots. CM punk is an actual wrestler, it wouldn’t work unless punk calls every minute of it.

Omega's been such a tremendous waste there since Punk debuted, which is when I started watching AEW. Don't know what he was like before then. Yes, he's been injured for a lot of it... but here's a guy that can actually have a singles match and is/can be a legit singles star in a company that's begging for singles stars if the 4 pillars angle is anything to go by, and they're tying him up in trios matches that nobody cares about and multi-man garbage wrestling matches. Or, even more frightening, this is something that he actually wants to do and it's his call to not be a draw for his own company to instead play in the sandbox with the children.

It doesn't matter if Punk comes back or not, if TK doesn't implement some type of leadership in that company then Collision is just going to turn out looking like the second hour of Rampage. Rampage started out strong with some good matches too, now, despite the enormous roster, we get Kip Sabian, Emi Sakura and Nyla Rose.
Collision creative will be Punk, Danielson, and Ace Steel supposedly, with TK's oversight but not as involved as he is with Dynamite.

I started watching AEW before Punk and saw massive potential in the show, im a huge Punk fan and he completely had me hooked on tuning in week in week out and ultimately started enjoying the other stars like MJF, Hobbs, Darby, Miro, Andrade etc hell even Hangman until all this chaos after all out. Since Punk got screwed by the 'evps' the show has literally been held on MJFs back because the rest of the show isnt worth watching. Youd think us fan's would be a little more excited to see Punk come back, personally im a little excited but you know Tony will drop the ball and not book the angles that make the most sense, just like theyve buried their best babyface. I dont understand how all of the 'big stars' dont sell anything in the ring, its glaringly obvious to us fans. The show without people like Punk & MJF is night and day.

Thanks, Guys. Tony with a "Big Announcement' that actually matters. He needs CM Punk, Punk doesn't need him. Of course, it got very mixed reactions, but had he not had Punk show up in Chicago for Collision things would have been far worse. Of course notice since the announcement, The Elite and JeriKaren have been pretty quiet. I guess they are either scared to do anything else now that he is back or trying to find some way to undermine this. Even more so with the report that Punk and Ace Steel have creative control on the Collision show.
Jericho made "peace" with Punk for political reasons and it seems Tony has shut the Elite up by allowing them by allowing Elite a feud with the BCC where the BCC are being set up as king satan that the Bucks/Omega/Page will defeat flawless victory.

He needs to do an anti-AEW angle. He can start pretending to do high risk moves only to piss the crowd off and do nothing, pipe bombs on the EVP'S, THE COMPANY, AND THE FANS. Tony puts him in a match with someone like Jungle Boy and he just doesn't show to the ring. Does promos with JR where he does kind of the Austin at home thing. The payoff is when he finally DOES have a match ppl are gonna be so fired up that he is now special. I would love to see that. Always talking about "Going back up North". Comes out during an EVP's match and gets on commentary and makes it all about him. How great would that be? And of course make him "Sell out Punk".

I absolutely LOVE Punk's work as a heel, and it would definitely play great with the mixed reactions he's getting. But I feel like there's already too many heels in AEW, and not that many tangible babyfaces. Aside from maybe Darby, Ricky Starks and Adam Cole, I don't see any babyface singles that could pull people in near the same level as Punk. They really dug themselves in a hole.
True that being said, will Punks announcement bring back some of the fans that left when he did? because lets be real, the only people turning up to these events now are elite marks. I can see chicago loving it, just have to see in canada what the crowd is like. maybe Punk uses the chicago crowd and a live mic to return to being a face, maybe he heels it up. who knows?
