    I love this part. Rigo shows everyone that not only does he have an awesome arm, but shows them all the Gentry is not as good as he thinks he is.

    • @Ninjacatprincess
      @Ninjacatprincess 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Rigo also shows he's a pretty well-grounded kid too...he says 'it's just a game'. Gentry was so rapped up in getting endorsements and he became a jerk to top it all off - he lost sight and the 'freshness' of playing the game. Love the story and how it shoes so much goes into forming a top notch athlete. In real-life a Gentry would get dropped in a heart beat once a Rigo-like player comes along...

      Exactly. Let me put this in perspective. If I moved to China and just did a couple cartwheels for fun. And my form was unexpectedly good. And the daughter of some Chinese government gymnastics agent invited me to Olympic camp. And he put me up against THE best gymnast of that generation. And then I destroyed him/her?...Try again, Hollywood. Can't play the "uninitiated minority" card forever...Get new writers/politics!

    This is the best scene in the whole movie; and despite people disagreeing with me I believe there are kids who are missed. I knew a Canadian guy who pushed and went to tryouts and pushed colleges--got accepted at a US college and was drafted. No he didn't make it to the big club but this story stops with the guy being offered a contract---that's all.

    I love this scene. TH-cam knows it and sends it to me every now and then.
    The point here for me is the eyes of Rigo. He knows this is the moment of his life where he is in front of an open door.
    Whether he becomes a pro player or not is not the idea of this movie, is about the point in your life when you face your future.
    Amy, Clint and the others too.
    But it's Rigo who plays the talented new guy facing his future in this scene.
    That's why i love it.

      NYG1991 I just stumbled across this movie overnight and I wonder how I missed it in the theatres. Lots of actors with name recognition - Justin Timberlake is in it and does a decent job. I am crazy about Amy Adams and of course Clint Eastwood holds his own. There are other actors rounding out the list so how did I miss this...maybe not enough publicity from the movie team? Maybe (GASP!) it's an actual story that doesn't revolve around pure sex. Yes, there's a love story in the movie but it's not front in center.
      This movie has everything that movie a good movie a 'good' movie and that scene at the end with 'Peanutboy' was just amazing. I am not familiar with the person who played Rigoberto but he did a fantastic job!

    • @stevefowler1787
      @stevefowler1787 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually as a guy who played and starred a bit I H.S. and then played pony ball (wooden bats) after H.S., I'd like to point out that analytics are almost useless in scouting H.S. kids..you really do need a scouts eye because the talent in H.S. varies so much...and then you have the whole metal vs wooden bat thing, which if you know anything about baseball, is often the determining factor in a kid not making it to the next level.

      steve Fowler True!! So overlooked. Perhaps because it is about the values that make America great and didn't fit in with the idiots trying to destroy her.

    I liked this movie and thought this was a great ending scene (almost ending), but it obviously took "dramatic license", others have commented on it's lack of realism but I haven't heard anyone state what struck me was the entire idea of an unproven kid being allowed to pitch at their brand new 1st round pick...that wouldn't happen in a million years in MLB...they spent a boat load of money on "Bo" and wouldn't expose him to injury by an unknown pitching talent...but again it was a movie and made for great drama...again, overall I thought it was a very good movie.

    So, yada, yada This is not the way that Major league teams try out pitching prospects, but this is a GREAT scene! The hitter is a dick, the team scout is an a**hole, the old scout's DAUGHTER finds the great pitching prospect. I can watch this scene MANY times and still get a kick out of it!!

    It's ridiculous that they had to cast such a pudgy guy as the top prospect. Yes, I realize that a lot of people are pointing out that baseball has been full of great players who weren't in the best condition, but the movie itself isn't trying to make a "looks can be deceiving" point. I mean come on, the guy gets hyped as a "five tool player!" Nobody who looks like that is going to blaze their way around the basepaths. It was lazy casting and that's all. There's absolutely no reason why they couldn't have hired an athletic, 6'5 Kris Bryant type. It's also an insult to Koufax that Rigo would immediately be compared to him after a couple of pitches. It wasn't even a scrimmage, much less anything that resembled actual game conditions. You just don't do that. It's like declaring that somebody who had a nice dunk or fade away is like Michael Jordan after 10 seconds of seeing them on a court.

    Gee, a pitcher in MLB striking out some dead pull hitter....now there's a shock. At some point I think MLB will just get rid of the outfielders, put the fences behind second base and start forcing the pitchers to throw beach balls. They might as well, they have changed all the other rules and these guys still can't hit jack or $%it.
