The very Trumpian state of Louisiana in particular has a lengthy history of jailing people (even fellow public officials) for criticizing sheriffs, judges, and other public officials, continuing even almost 60 years after SCOTUS unanimously ruled in Garrison v. Louisiana (building on the standard set in New York Times v. Sullivan) that people have a right to criticize public officials.
