Dragon's breath is one of my favorite spells during the time it's relevant. Unfortunately on my sorcerer, once you have 3rd level spells you kinda just... no longer need it. Twin Casting Haste on two martial characters tends to be way more effective than anything else you can do.
I've spent some time with the pre-release early alpha and it's really really good. I've been running my sunday games in it and sometimes when I'm feeling anxious I just chill and build huge crazy maps. So far, a castle, a village and a manor using the blueprints for Highclere (downton abbey)
Omg I didn’t realize it’s almost exactly like burning hands (dmg is the same). Except it’s 1 lv higher then burning hands and u can choose the dmg type. This ones definitely better tho. I like the fact u can use this on familiars.
Say, while this Druid is around, let's have him help us out with another classic spell well beloved across the multiple editions of D&D. That's right, I'm talking about Entangle. Everyone's favorite spell for when you want your archers and blasters to go to town on enemies without having to worry about charge attacks.
So if using Dragon's Breath doesn't count as an attack, and this spell is being cast by someone else onto a willing creature, that creature should be able to make themselves Invisible without breaking invisibility. That seems...wrong.
@@jpereda97 "A creature you touch becomes Invisible until the spell ends. Anything the target is wearing or carrying is Invisible as long as it is on the target's person. Also, Invisibility is a weird spell that leaves a bit up to interpretation from the player and DM. When attacking or casting a spell, it will break. Dragon's breath breath attack is not classed as either, it is simply creating the effect since you are not striking the opponent with a weapon attack, and nothing is being cast since the spell was cast at the beginning, not when the breath weapon is used.
BeegtymeRawkstah Yea but if constantly moving around it can be hard for the enemy to pinpoint u. Like u could use the breath and then move. And I don’t think it would provoke attack of opps since they can’t see u.

The fact that dragons breath when twin cast on 2 familiars outperforms a fire ball cast at the same spell slot level each round and can last for 10 rounds. Keeping in mind that 2 familiars means 1 other caster, or you can simply cast on yourself and the familiar.
@@louiesatterwhite3885 ... Then why, pray-tell, have you deemed it necessary to inform me, a DISGUSTING casual viewer, of this when it was an obvious joke?

I just want to thank this show for teaching me about the wonder that is Find Familiar. Its a pet, scout, taser, battle buddy, AND stealth flame thrower all in one
Most creatures with breath weapons are limited to a number of uses per day or by a minimum length of time that must pass between uses. Using this spell you can determine the type of damage when you cast it (unlike the half-dragons being predetermined), do the breath weapon every round for a minute, _and_ the damage increases +1d6 for every level above 2nd.
No, they still have to use their action to use this ability, AND have to use their action to use their own, so they'd have to choose to use one or the other. Then again, most breath weapons I know of (edit: that are available to players) are of the "Once per short/long rest" variety, and this spell lets you blast it out once per round for 10 rounds, so maybe save it as a backup surprise for after they've burned their innate BW, then "SURPRISE, MOTHERFUCKERS! IMA FIRIN MAH BLAAAAAAUUUUUGH"
Zerotraveler Except this spell is million times better then the crappy Dragonborns breath. The max it goes to is 5d6 at lv 16 (which is pathetic) and u u can easily use this spell at 4th lv and do the same dmg as it but able to do it at 7th lv (and every round for 1 minute). I think the Dragonborns breath should be based on half their lv rounded down (So u would be doing a max of 10d6 at lv 20). Also the fact they don’t get darkvison is stupid and they don’t get a bonus to their con even tho their breath is based of it. I also think they should be able to use it multiple times based on their con mod (because the dc is based of it). Dragonborns seriously got the short end of the stick with race abilities.
@@davidstratton696 lol, with the "long rest is not sleep" optional I think elves have dragonborns beat for worst racial. Yes, you slept, now put your head on a pillow for two hours, and no more than light activity for two hours, so you can get your long rest. Trance gives the effect of 8 hours of sleep, not a long rest. So you still need 8 hours to long rest. And who tf sleeps without wanting a long rest, in any situation where it matters?
@@TheGreyKami Trance is a long rest for elves tho. 8 hours of sleep is the same thing as a long rest. Also Elves get other things too (they also get subraces to get even more stuff). Dragonborns r way worse. All u pretty much get is the crappy breath attack which doesn’t do enough dmg especially later on. It should max out at like 10d6 not like 5d6 or 6d6 (can’t remember which it is). And they should also get more stuff not just the breath. Makes no sense y they don’t have darkvison too.
@@TheGreyKami Half elves r better tho I will definitely say that. Just like how Half orcs r better. Y r the half races better lol. This goes great with an owl familiar and its flyby ability. Blast someone with Acid breath point blank. Might I also remind you that this is a touch spell meaning you can cast in on your familiar without even having to be next to it while your within 100 feet.
Well he’s wrong :\ like, reading the wording of it, that’s just wrong. I know I can’t really say the guy who made the game is wrong, but it’s at least not fun and is wrong based on how the rules are written. Especially since he did say familiars can use the breath attack.

There's no hyperbole in calling these some of the best videos in the history of the internet! :P
Wow this is the first thing I have ever kickstarted! This looks cool. It is nice when the sponsors are not terrible.
God, the facial animations never fail to amaze me. I seriously have to watch these on repeat just to notice all the fine details
I in fact use it on my fighter/sorcerer Noble build to make it seem more 1/4 dragon from his bloodline. Major buff to dragonic sorcerers honestly as I believe you can't add your cha mod to the damage of the chosen dragon's affinity.
That's something brand new! Amazing changes from past episodes, I love this!
Yes! Love for Talespire! It really excited me.
I honestly get genuinely excited whenever I see you've posted something new, Zee. Thanks for the wonderfully entertaining lessons with this series, and your various stories from past games.
Awesome video, Zee!!!
Talespire is super-great-fun!
Looks amazing
@@dustrockblues7567 It is basically Dwarven Forge in digital form. There's a lot they could/should/will add, but where it is right now is still fun as hell.
Great spell for wizards at low level with an owl familiar. Sit back and carpet bomb an area while slinging out other spells
I like the divine soul sorcerer that grabs animate dead from the cleric list then twins this on their zombies, 15ft cone of 6d6 damage for 1 minute and you get some meat shields
Oh fuck yes
Can't Twin Dragon's Breath,according to Crawford.
@@Awoken0 ah, i didnt realize, makes total sense tho and one acid spitting zombie is good enoigh for me.
@@Awoken0 rules wise you absolutely can, he stated that it hadn't been intended to be twinned, not that the rules did not indicate that it could be.
It falls within all the criteria laid out in the twinspell description, and is in effect no different than a twinned Haste.
These spell videos are the material that made me finally create a wizard. So thank you Zee!
Especially fun on a flying familiar, just attack from above and you have a radius instead of a cone at ground level!
I definitely bothered my DM doing this. Though the squishiness of familiars' hp helped balance it out!
@@cheifjojo oh definitely! the fun thing is that so long as your familiar is that of an animal pretty common to the region and you don't have it on your shoulder at the top of initiative, you're almost guaranteed to get one hit in before enemies even start targeting it!
Not an attack... Doesn't break invisibility. Imp shenanigans away!
@@justinjacobs1501 good point, they're neither casting a spell nor attacking...
But remember that it's a 15 foot _diameter_ circle, not radius
I found this spell about a month before you put up the episode and cackled, alone, in my bedroom. Now, Mizzium the Owl familiar flys around the battlefield breathing lightning and living out it’s fantasy of being a blue dragon. Love this spell.
I backed this kickstarter and I am a Build Murray wizard who just bought a bag of tricks.I am very excited to try this.
also BUILD MURRAY IS AN INCREDIBLE BUILD! I am THOROUGHLY enjoying it. (I also received an astute feat from our generous DM, allowing me to reroll any intelligence based check)
Haha yes!
@@zeebashew you should've seen it! two sessions ago I was rolling an intelligence check to avoid a fight with some squad, first I rolled a 1, then I got to roll a 4, then I think an 11, THEN I used the lucky feat and came out with a 16 so I ended there. the party got more and more excited while the DM said nothing.
Man, an invisible imp familiar (warlock's) with this spell would be awesome
Can confirm - it was.
Then the sorcerer left the group. =(
Later the imp became a sorcerer itself and learned Dragon's Breath, but it was never the same because it couldn't concentrate on invisibility and the spell at the same time.
My immediate thought was “oooh, I’ll put it on my warlock and go pact of the chain, choose pseudo dragon and have my cute little buddy do 3d6 damage of my choice and scare the he’ll outta them.”
Or better yet give it to any of the chain familiars it’ll be hilarious terrifying and possibly unexpected. Just imagine a sprite sneezing out lightning damage!
Then I remembered that warlocks don’t get that spell.
@@giraffedragon6110 Ask your friendly Wizard or Sorcerer teammate, this is a group game for a reason
marcos2492 I know... I always try for consistency but asking for help is never a bad thing. Thanks for that!
Dragon's breath is one of my favorite spells during the time it's relevant. Unfortunately on my sorcerer, once you have 3rd level spells you kinda just... no longer need it. Twin Casting Haste on two martial characters tends to be way more effective than anything else you can do.
Just love your spellbook videos! Have never played D&D my self, but they are entertaining, informative and fun.
talespire legit looks awesome
I've spent some time with the pre-release early alpha and it's really really good. I've been running my sunday games in it and sometimes when I'm feeling anxious I just chill and build huge crazy maps. So far, a castle, a village and a manor using the blueprints for Highclere (downton abbey)
Thank you for sharing talespire! I looked at the Kickstarter and fell in love with it backing it tomorrow
2nd level spell: cast burning hands for free for a minute.
No, the barbarian can cast burning hands for free for a minute
Omg I didn’t realize it’s almost exactly like burning hands (dmg is the same). Except it’s 1 lv higher then burning hands and u can choose the dmg type. This ones definitely better tho. I like the fact u can use this on familiars.
Nailed the Hot Ones format, and I love the direct contrast between your wizard and your sorcerer.
Say, while this Druid is around, let's have him help us out with another classic spell well beloved across the multiple editions of D&D.
That's right, I'm talking about Entangle. Everyone's favorite spell for when you want your archers and blasters to go to town on enemies without having to worry about charge attacks.
I love the kind of crazy personality the sorcerer has! So much bouncing and wide eyed excitement!
So if using Dragon's Breath doesn't count as an attack, and this spell is being cast by someone else onto a willing creature, that creature should be able to make themselves Invisible without breaking invisibility. That seems...wrong.
Forcing a saving throw also breaks invisibility
@@jpereda97 "A creature you touch becomes Invisible until the spell ends. Anything the target is wearing or carrying is Invisible as long as it is on the target's person. The spell ends for a target that attacks or casts a spell." There is no mention about invisibility breaking when a saving throw is forced.
They may be invisible, but their breath won't be. A good DM would account for that.
BeegtymeRawkstah Yea but if constantly moving around it can be hard for the enemy to pinpoint u. Like u could use the breath and then move. And I don’t think it would provoke attack of opps since they can’t see u.
@@davidstratton696 they still cast a spell based on the spell's description since scrolls, spell like abilities ect all count under casting.
As a Hot Ones Fan who just started DnD and therefore just came across your channel: YOUR STUFF IS FREAKING AWESOME AND HILARIOUS. That reference killed me. Much love. ❤️
Oh my God... With Dragon’s Breath and a few well placed rats you have FLAME-THROWING RAT TURRETS!!!

my owl familiar will be spewing elemental damage all over the place.
Wow never thought I'd see an Animated Spellbook x Hot Ones crossover but here we are
A Dragonborne Sorcerer giving two people Dragon's Breath twined. Now that's cool
You can't twin dragon breath unfortunately.
@@waltfield7559 why not twinning spells says nothing against concentration spells
The lead designer Jeremy said that as part of the spell the breath attack can affect more than one creature
@@ericmeyer5474 yep, which is really unfortunate because now a lot of GMs probably won't allow it. Even though you could argue that about a lot of single target buff spells. "no, you can't twin haste because even though it's single target, the targets will be able to affect other creatures with their extra attacks" or "no, you can't twin polymorph because their new forms might have abilities that target multiple enemies". It's raw, cool, and doesn't do anything outlandish. I really think he made a mistake with that call.
Yeah I also don't like his decision about this spell but he said that this spell was unique in that aspect that it has two sets of targets.
Man, the twinned shoulder mice flamethrower image is solid.
Lizardfolk + Sorceress who knows Dragons Breath = fantasies fufilled

Dragon's breath is one of my favorite second level spells and the ability to just throw magic around is lovely.
you could also supe up your Animate Dead zombies with this spell, because who DOESN'T want acid-vomiting zombies?
Create a Skeletal Champion, give it either Fire or Lightning for a breath weapon, have it team up with the Bard. You've introduced Heavy Metal to the world of D&D!

Still- the idea of twinning it through a familiar is absolutely awesome...

This is one of the best intros you've done. Amazing job!
What's your point, person in Fireball distances?
The fact that dragons breath when twin cast on 2 familiars outperforms a fire ball cast at the same spell slot level each round and can last for 10 rounds. Keeping in mind that 2 familiars means 1 other caster, or you can simply cast on yourself and the familiar.

I just want to thank this show for teaching me about the wonder that is Find Familiar. Its a pet, scout, taser, battle buddy, AND stealth flame thrower all in one
Who needs dragon's breath when your half dragon.
But if you have Dragon's Breath, you get MOAR breath weapon. Are you really saying you can ever have _enough_ breath weapon?
Most creatures with breath weapons are limited to a number of uses per day or by a minimum length of time that must pass between uses. Using this spell you can determine the type of damage when you cast it (unlike the half-dragons being predetermined), do the breath weapon every round for a minute, _and_ the damage increases +1d6 for every level above 2nd.
So you can show your friends the joy of being a destructive dragon
Half dragons are not balanced to be a playable race.
@@greatestoldone7658 it's a little thing called homebrew tweaking
Love the music in this one! Keep up the great work.
So, if you use this spell on a “creature” (read: “player”) that already has a breath weapon, do they use both of them at once?
Tho at least full elves r still good, full orcs r just the absolute worst. Don’t know what they were thinking when they made that. By far the worse playable race their is.
This goes great with an owl familiar and its flyby ability. Blast someone with Acid breath point blank.
Might I also remind you that this is a touch spell meaning you can cast in on your familiar without even having to be next to it while your within 100 feet.
Hold up- that's actually a fantastic application!
@@TheWorldBelowDnD Yeah Owl familar is the best for its flyby ability cast vampire touch and drain your enemies from range

Well he’s wrong :\ like, reading the wording of it, that’s just wrong. I know I can’t really say the guy who made the game is wrong, but it’s at least not fun and is wrong based on how the rules are written. Especially since he did say familiars can use the breath attack.
