I liked it because it made sense why her power level seemed inconsistent. Her emotions where literally her power. She could get stronger or weaker depending on how she felt.

She absurdly holds back one time lost to donna and starfire and miss martian next she leveled up 3 planets with her rage alone and was about to blow them up until wally calmed her down and one time she blew up 2 planets and that's was a fraction of her power and she killed etrigan and belial

Well your either someone who didn't grow up with them or someone who finds pointless humor and no purpose in anything better then one the better YA Cartoons (with Young Justice its Spirit Successor) at giving us character growth and character purpose with humor and jokes mixed in perfectly.
See now I want Nux to talk more about TT and its cast and how well at story arcs they did as well as giving EACH Titan a season and an arc pretty much.

She’s also an empath, meaning she has to constantly manage the emotional backlash of those around her, exhorting massive amounts of energy to control her own state when around people like Beast Boy, Stanford, and Cyborg.
Superman's 'cardboard speech' ? Yes that also applies to Raven.
I think the closest the show ever came to showing her empath powers was in the Go comic, when she offered to help Robin with his emotional pain on the anniversary of his parents' death.

It's a statement of confidence, that even if evil and terror begs to darken their spirits and souls, that they can will the positivity needed to triumph against the most damnest and tempting of outcomes. Evil might be able to pressure us with our deepest desires but we have positivity, non-sense and each other to say no to baddieness (and the waffles are like a manifestation of this group-meme they have together). I love Raven! She’s always been my favorite TT. As an introvert I related to her and her value for privacy, yet she still has compassion and a heart , be it a dark one, but a heart none the less.

Raven's entire arc was one of beyond growth, invoking an understanding of fear of abuse, fear of becoming her father and her desire to get loved. We felt for her because she wasn't happy and rarely got the chance to be so...

I kinda remember her more in the episode when BB and Cyborg entered her state of mind and revealed her different emotions. I always thought that something's wrong with her and she has issues and this was before i knew about depression and other fun stuff.
Raven was just perfect while growing up and being edgy.
In the comics, she's actually the most sensitive person there is.
Also, her powers make her evil, so, there is a limiter. And when she's evil, she destroys the world.

We always said that Raven was “the girl from the wrong side of the tracks.” We always thought Raven was the most powerful of the Titans - but she constantly has to keep her powers in check; She was to hold back her power. We always thought that was interesting about Raven. She had a lot of control issues. She comes from a troubled past. It’s a different story from Terra’s. Terra is about being reckless, whereas Raven’s story is about self-control.
Season Three’s episode, HAUNTED, sort of built up to that. I really wanted to do that scene where Raven goes in Robin’s mind. I thought it would be very cool for Raven to have a bond with Robin that would be different that the other characters’ bond with Robin. That Robin could understand Raven on a different level. And that would help set up the Trigon story.
And we always wanted that on the show. We wanted all their relationships to be different. Robin and Starfire’s relationship is different than anyone else. And Robin and Raven’s relationship is different. It’s funny that everyone wants relationships to be romantic. Robin and Raven are similar in some ways; They have a certain understanding of each other. I think that’s cool. I think that’s how people are with family and friends. Beast Boy and Cyborg are like brothers; And Robin and Cyborg are like brothers. But all the relationship dynamics are different.

Something to note: i think that having her emotions depicted in colors is super clever. Base raven is dark, defined by the color black, which is known to absorb all other colors, making it so she contains her emotions thus her power making her weaker, while later in the series raven wears white which is known to reflect the other colors, symbolizes her letting her emotions flow, making her stronger

Raven was so overpowered they cut the show. They just couldn't keep up with Raven.
They had nowhere to go but down, once she saved the Universe from her inter-dimensional demon dad. Season 5 was blah for me, villains who are evil for the sake of being evil.

That entire tower defense scene was the most badass scene I have ever seen when I was a kid. They fought out of desperation and though of anything and everything they could use in that fight.

That's actually one I had never considered; awesome that you thought of it.
Would definately be a plot-driven fight, rather than any kind of test either characters strength or skill. The two are essentially on the opposite ends for what their powers operate based on, but both use their powers from anything such as what the plot requires, to the kill switch on a particular threat.
It's interesting too, because both Fate and Raven's powers have been shown to be deadly when heavily relied upon (Raven becoming armageddon, and Fate taking over human hosts and throwing humanity under the bus), but also are shown as the needed balm for when their theme's antithesis becomes too powerful.

Aaaand I just came up with the plot for the perfect crossover between these two characters and a certain other DC staple.

I've now realized how similar Wiccan and Raven in regards to being emotion-based OPs. Unlike Raven, Wiccan is only at full power when he's confident in his abilities, which as someone with depression (sometimes especially severe depression) and anxiety is hard for him. His powers have also grown with him, but that could arguably also be chalked up to emotional development.

TheBerchie the whole “control your emotions” with captain marvel literally made no sense in regards to the narrative, her chachter, and how Brie Larson portrayed her. I was legitimately confused the entire movie why they kept saying that. I guess like she’s a girl superhero so they were just being misogynist?
Captain Marvel didn't need to control her emotions; the Kree told her that in order to maintain control over her. The implant they put on her was also suppressing her powers and emotions.

This is why I always got annoyed when people said Terra was stronger then Raven. "Well Terra beat her in a one on one." Yes, she did but she made Raven angry forcing her to fight between her own emotions to stay in control, fight to stay sane, and she was in a battlefield that was in Terra's favor. When she does lose control of her temper in that fight, that is what caused Terra to win because Raven wasn't thinking anymore.

This series was absolutely fantastic in so many ways.

That was an aspect that I wished the writers had explored in Season 5. She was free of Trigon's influence, and was finally able to freely feel emotions without fear of losing control. It was her moment to truly feel joy and gratitude. Raven getting used to expressing her emotions could have made for a few good episodes.

Writers pulled Trigon out of nowhere, killed him, then said "ayyyy lmao raven character finished lol". What about her other struggles? Her feelings? I swear, the reason Raven is the most loved titan is because of the tremendous, but wasted potential she has.
@@TheEmerald-pv4gn As much as I liked the arc, I thought it was rushed. They could have sacrificed a few of their non-serious episodes (Stranded, Mother Mae-Eye) to really build it up. Even The End could have been better with a few more parts.
Raven being the portal and the entirety of the universe being turned to stone (albeit temporarily) should have reflected more consequences than it did. Justice League tackled the question of trusting overpowered beings with their safety. After what happened with Trigon, there would have been more than a few with a newfound distrust of the heroes, the Titans, and especially Raven. Alas, that was never reflected in the Titans universe.
Also, I hated how Raven's arc ended, with her and Robin having a cliched exchange "I guess there aren't any endings, just new beginnings.") This should have been a momentous and overwhelming moment for her. It was a real "meh" moment for me.
I really want her to show up on Young Justice! But we have to get it renewed for season 4 first!

I loved Raven too. She was easily my fav in Teen Titans
Oh my god. I bought the dvd set just for the Nevermore and Switched episodes specifically. I was so happy that a show made girls that weren't over the top when the episode was focused on them. And Raven "Are you a afraid of the dark?" plus the music always gives me chills.
Raven is OP but the show did a good job of keeping her in check like you said. Raven can do so many things in the comics and is just so awesome.
Her relationships with each Titans West character is built up over time so well that Season 4 makes complete sense why each of them would go forward and work with Slade if it meant Raven's return. Raven being there for Beastboy with Terra's tomfooolery, Cyborg and the TCar (and implied continued maintenance work together), Haunted and Birthmark with Robin, and Switched and continuity of "The Girls Talk Time" with Starfire.

@Nox Eath Well when she pulls out the op shit she also has a habit of going evil. When she's totally good she's pretty much a support character (she's actually a pacifist though one that will fight when push comes to shove)
in fact she only gained basic combat abilities (telekinesis more powerful emotion manipulation and some other magic tricks) after the cartoon started airing.

It was nice that each season revolved around each of the characters as well. Too bad we never did get that season for Star Fire.

This was very well done and did an amazing job of analyzing how not only the abilities of Raven work, but how her character and personality work as well. If you do another analysis on one of the Teen Titans, I'd honestly like to see an analysis on Beast Boy. Although he acts as the series' joke character most of the time, he actually has an interesting backstory and has shown that he can not only be extremely powerful as he can turn into anything from actual animals to a f***ing phoenix at one point in the comics, but also extremely interesting in terms of psychology. Such as when he transformed into The Beast or simply how he acts despite how tragic his life has actually been when you really look into it

I have a Fan Fic character whose super powers are based on his emotions, with fear fueling his invulnerability. So if he's afraid, he's harder to harm, which means that villains can defeat him by either sucker-punching him or lulling him into a false sense of security.

When Trigon entered our world and caused the whole Apocalypse scenario to happen, the Titans were protected by the small fractions of Raven's power that she'd given them for the express purpose of protecting them. Slade had the Ring of Azar at the time which protected him, and then he gave it to the titans to help them distract Trigon long enough for Robin to find and rescue Raven.
She is my favorite female character ever, actually favorite character ever which is saying something. I’ve always identified with her a lot. Plus her and Beast Boy are my favorite couple. Wish they’d animate them together as an official couple now that Piccolo has done all that artwork and comics.

man, i always had a hard time choosing between Raven and Starfire. I did everything Raven did, sat alone in a room to read books is a dream! Loved daydreaming, love cloaks, made sarcastic comments every now and them. But I loved acting like Starfire when I was excited and with friends that i trusted. They were both my favorite of Teen Titans.

This kind of overpowered power balance reminds me of Samus from Metroid Prime 3, and how she could get powerful from phazon, but if not handled correctly, she would overload and corrupt herself, becoming a second Dark Samus. It was a really cool power concept. Maybe do Samus from MP3 Corruption in a later episode, unless you don't do video games.

I think their was a little bit of power of friendship with Cyborg vs Brother Blood. Also, I find her Teen Titans Go iteration interesting because in many way's her Go version is more powerful because she is far more open with her emotions

If you go back to watch the episode feat itself you notice that every time raven says she’s not afraid the monsters show up.
Showing that every time raven suppress her emotions the stronger they become.

My favorite raven moment in recent times was when she completely dominated a batman from the dark multiverse who had gained a green lantern ring and polluted the will spectrum and killed every other hero with his dark green lantern constructs
Running tabletop RPGs I've had some significantly overpowered NPCs, although quite often the reason they don't get involved is because they're actively being pricks, or just don't feel like it (or in a recent setting, are absolutely terrified of a thing far more powerful than themselves (consequences of a previous campaign) which has insisted that the game should play out as intended). As long as the characterization is consistent it seems to work, and helps foster the deep seated paranoia that my players have internalized :3
