- In this video we explore the famous Old NC 105 road in the Linville Gorge Wilderness Area near Marion, NC. Watch this video to check out the road conditions and see some of the best campsites along the gorge. We also visit Wiseman's View and the Linville Falls. The four of us (plus the pup) sleep in the Tuff Stuff Alpha tent for the first time on this trip.

Yesterday my son and I accidentally found this road/trail. Was the first time my “new to me” Jeep saw some dirt/rocks/bumps. Had a blast and can’t wait to go back and actually camp. Just a couple tricky spots but perfect for someone like me who has never been off-roading.
That’s awesome! I really enjoyed camping there and the hiking is pretty great too.
I’m just getting into overlanding/off roading and your channel is really great. Thanks for putting these together! Planning on my first trip with my son to Uwharrie in the next few weeks. Will add this to the list.

New subscriber here, and new JL owner. I've been looking around for nearby trails to enjoy my Jeep off the pavement. I've heard about Old NC-105. It looks like a lot of fun. I think it's about an hour or so from home here northern SC. I am not far from Charlotte, NC.
Looks like a good time. For all the times that I've gone out that way, I've never hit the old 105. I'll have to change that sometime soon!

I grind my own beans as well, I do recommend finding a grinder without any plastics holding the blade in. They always break and you end up with bits of plastic in your grind. The lid can be plastic but the chamber needs to be all metal. I have my ninja but that is big so i bought a cheapo grinder off amazon. No name knock off brand but no plastics, so we shall see.

New subscriber. Planning a trip out there this Spring. Won't be camping, but staying close by. Need to round up some maps of the highlights along the route and best place to start/finish since it'll be mostly a day trip from where we're staying. Good stuff man!

I know I'm a bit late to this video but any chance you remember where exactly you slept on your first night? I'm gonna be coming in late Friday night and want to save the entirety of old NC 105 for Saturday, so I'm hoping to sleep somewhere similar to that spot you found.
If the hype is that it’s a nice gravel forest road; then yes, it lives up to the hype.
I used to live in Morganton we used to hit brown mt all the time this was 9 years ago im sure the place is overrun with people now we used to go in a Tacoma on 35s and a 6 in lift and could do it all. Oh and wisemans view if you camp there im pretty sure you may get lucky and see the brown mt lights if you dont know what that is look it up you will be amazed nat geo did a thing on them its either UFOs or something paranormal either way its creepy.

Did that grill bar come on your Jeep, or did you get it somewhere? I am looking for one.
It came on the Jeep. Part of the hard-rock package I think.

Does this road have areas where it would scratch paint? I have a newer power wagon that I want to take my family on but don't want to scratch the paint too much.
Hi Jeremy! This road is really wide and well travelled. You won’t have any issues with paint scratches.

Are there a lot of different camp sites out there, I am planning to go soon.
There are a ton of good sites. You’ll have to get there early to get the best ones, but most of them are really nice. I was initially disappointed to not get one with a view, but we also didn’t have to deal with any wind and weren’t disturbed by traffic.

Old 105 has old dudes that drive old thunderbirds on it. Same going up and down globe.

@@TarheelOverland it’s ridiculous man! I’ll be going down some of the old gravel roads and roads that aren’t maintained anymore and get passed by old people all the time hahaha
Us southern Appalachia folk don’t really see dirt roads as off-roading lol
@@baseballdipper111 yeahhh its the logging roads and fire tower trails that havent seen maintenance in 60 years or more that we like. I like trails that if you dont have 33s or bigger and 4.5 inches of lift youre probably not even gonna touch it lol.
O gosh - I just hope people don’t throw down trash and dirty and litter up my beautiful state - or leave camp fires going or unattended - makes me very uneasy -
