You're in more dire need of a hitch winch and a Stanely coffee mug than anyone I have ever seen. Love what you do. Camera work is awesome. I know its a lot harder than people think. You have cracked the code of making people feel like they are along for the ride without the "look at me" obnoxious and narcissism, so many youtubers have these days. Good luck
Welcome to SC brother! Great video!! Nice rig. Hope ya get to come back and finish the trail! I recommend some MT tires in this SC peanut butter mud, a winch, and a big water gun to spray out your radiator to prevent overheating as well as clean off your windows after slinging some of this thick sandy mud here. It will scratch your glass when you roll down the windows otherwise. I learned that the hard way 😂 New subscriber here bud.
What a cool trip. I’m in columbia sc. I’ve ran a lot of the scar but not the whole part. I know after a rain those roads get slick in mud. And I’m familiar with that mud hole. Lots of recovery’s there.
First time catching your content and as a lifelong South Carolinian I gotta say you did a great job. Love our state and like most things here when people really see what all SC has to offer they can’t help but be impressed. Again, great job and look forward to seeing more of your stuff in the future.
Just watched this and the "frogs" you were hearing at the campsite on the side of the road are actually cicadas - we had 2 different hordes hatch at the same time in parts of SC and they were so loud people were calling 911. Crazy stuff. Hope the next time you visit our state you have a smoother journey
We were in SC last week. There was a Tacoma parked in the condo lot we stayed at that had a SCAR license plate. Super cool to see this video shortly after. Great video and awesome adventure.
A good ole Texas boy. Lived there for 21 years by Corpus Christi (Portland). Was prepping for the beach overland thing when we moved to SC by Charleston. My wife and I did a piece of the SCAR a few months ago. She told me it was time to get a winch on that trip 😂. Great road to travel. Just so you know when you get down by Charleston, there’s all kinds of off-roads that splinter off the scar. We just start driving down all different roads to see where they went. Was a blast
@@Bruizer61 it depends on a lot of factors, like your speed, gear ratio, torque, and hp... for a slippery muddy road, yes 4 high. but for deep mud 4 low is normally better. remember, you can probably still do 50mph in 4low (or more) and you can also still do high rpm. 4 low is not just for slow crawling, it is also to change your final gear ratio with the lower transfer case gearing to achieve way more torque. but yea, trying to crawl in the deep mud wont work, still need some wheel speed no matter what gear that you choose
Hope you get to come back and finish this route. I live in SC and there are some good trails in the upstate and some incredible mountain views as well. Best of luck getting back down here to finish it
Great video! Next time your out in our neck of the woods being North Georgia or South Carolina let us know you missed a lot in the Sumpter National Forest! You rode some of our favorite trails! Keep making Videos!
Hey man, you passed right by my house! Ive lived and traveled these roads my entire life, and always go to NC, VA, TN, & WV to trail ride....ive never even heard of this adventure road until some jeep guy told me about it. Theres some very awesome sand dunes and sand trails to hit back where i live in the ancient bay lands.
When you come back let me know. I’m out of Charleston but get upstate often. If I can get off, I’ll be glad to do it with you. I’ve got a double locked jeep on mud tires with a winch and a bunch of recovery gear including a ground anchor.
Funny, I'm from Marion county, went to Marion high school. I barely remember the scar. There is also a great long road up near yellow branch above clemson. I wish my Tacoma was 4wd so I could go more places. Glad you did it, quite a learning experience for me.👍I'll try it during the next drought.
Absolutely lots of places to explore here in the Carolinas. I'm in NC. Beautiful country around here. Epic journey and production/editing...loved that night shot with the deer tracking in front of your Taco. That hole you got in was nuts! Saw that Aero sticker. Sucks it was cut short with the starter issue. You earned sub today. Awesome job man!
I am just finding your channel - Great video! Showing the reality of overlanding with the trials and tribulations front and center makes great content ! The N Georgia, SC and NC areas are some of my favorites! Good fishing areas too!
2 things real quick. 1) think those are locusts not frogs. 2) get an inverter with conventional appliances. (I’m an electrician) lol Nice video!!! Thanks!!
Great video! When are you going back? Best video I’ve seen on this to date ! I’m here visiting from Long Island at my brothers who lives in Fort Mill SC with my Tacoma. Next time I come back bringing all my gear for this trip!
If those starters are like the Tundras they are super expensive and a real bear to change. Nice learning about a place that I can get to. Thanks for the video.
Great video! Your first couple days was spent in what used to be my backyard for the past decade. Just recently moved to the northern side of the state. It was cool and a bit nostalgic recognizing most of the dirt roads in the footage.
I'm from NC I spent a lot of time in SC working and hunting for many years, screw the tent i would lay my seat back and go to lala land, you might need to invest in a winch before your next trip really enjoyed the video take care👍
I have to say, you're no wuss. I would've avoided that mudhole and I have a winch lol. But I'm a lot older and go solo like you. Subd and liked man. 🤘🇺🇸
Love to see part of the taco gang enjoy my home state trails. I’m from the upstate SC in the mountains but looks like I’ll definitely have to take a couple days to do this route!
I am asking this in the most sincere manner, but have you ever driven off road? And by off road I don't mean down the occasional dirt road or through your own yard? Know your vehicle, know your limitations, and don't destroy trails. BTW, a starter is an electric motor, swamp it, and this is often the result; many have drains to relieve water/mud out of the housing. Any component that isn't sealed, and goes under water should be checked, including differentials, transmissions, and transfer cases, especially if they do not have extended vents.
15:18 I did this same thing at 1am on a fire trail in NY. We had just come from driving on the outer beach, night fishing. My truck was stuck there over night. My son had to come get me an my wife. Came back the next day with a 1 ton cable puller and winched it out. The fuse box went under water. Had to remove it and replace some relays and dry it out.
That is not frogs. That is the 17th year cicadas two broods rising from the ground at the same time, it was insane in South Carolina for about 6 weeks.Sounded like an alarm going off Nonstop!! Good video keep up the good work.
Just finished the Georgia Traverse and then a few hours on the northwest leg of the SCAR. Thought about doing the whole thing, but info I found said it was mostly dirt and paved roads.
Next time you come down to run the scar let me know I live in SC and have a lot of Toyota guys live All through SC. So if you ever get into a bind I need help. You can always reach out. We can help also. Definitely you need to invest in which especially down here but also great video
That first road looks like some of the the old rural roads in Sumter, SC when my family moved there in the late 1980's. They were designated roads and had all the signage but they were dirt in the dry season and mud holes when it rained. It was probably the only area I've lived in where folks who don't off road for fun actually needed mud tires!
I knew you were getting stuck from the time you stuck a stick in it. I would have tried the left side and straddled the ruts more, also a lot more throttle. Great video!
That sucks man. I have seen too many puddles like that here in Florida that look deceiving. I was like "Damn!" when the front entered and just dropped. That's what probably caused your starter issues. Great video though...I enjoyed it.
Great video! You may want to review the drone regulations, so you don't get yourself in a pickle though. Particularly when it comes to flying over moving vehicles/traffic.
Great video work. Looks like it would have been a fun adventure if not for the troubles in the mud. Time for a bumper and a winch to avoid the unnecessary hassle.
buddy if you're gonna be offroading and doin stunts like that alone.. you need a winch. matter fact, that should be the FIRST item for anyone that plans on goin solo. and also.... if you see a bypass, take it, there's a reason locals did it. the regulars that hit these trails do it for mudding.. and they gonna have bigger tires than you. so, you're gonna bottom out.
15 minutes in and I was saying He is totally getting stuck. 18 minutes in. I said hes going to lose his traction boards. 19 mins in. seeing him digging for them.... I said well I am definitely getting a winch on my bronco
Fayetteville NC......Lots of heigh speed low drag dudes around there.... I am out of NC, tad north of Fayetteville, If you hit that trail up again and want a second vehicle to roll with. Hit me up.

Don’t worry about the scar the scar will be there when you’re ready!

Dude the drone work and b-roll is super impressive, keep it up. You’ve got it next time 🤙🏼
Those are Cicadas brother! One of my favorite things about the south. They truly are deafening!
So loud this year!
I've lived in SC since 2008 and never knew this existed. Cool video!
I can’t believe you intentionally drove into that mud hole, dang. You definitely can use a winch.
There's no way he could have known or even suspected that that mud hole would be that deep. It didn't even make sense
Can’t wait to try this ! I have an old Volvo C303 army truck. Lessons learned to use bypass others have used around that little mud hole !
