  • ENDURANCE TEST and review of the Pecron E600 LFP solar generator / portable power station. I was sent this unit for evaluation and I don't get any commissions for sales. In this video I put the E600 LFP through a variety of tests to see how it performs in real world circumstances. The endurance test consists of several days of running a 5000btu window air conditioner while charging from 200-300 watts of solar power all day. This type of test, while slightly unreasonable for a system of this size, is designed to expose any flaws in system cooling and overall performance.
    I also tested the DC outputs and USB charging, and provide general commentary and feedback throughout the test. Minimum time spent evaluating this unit was 7 days.
    A solar generator is a great way for people who are new to solar power to get started without much effort. Just plug in the solar panels and go.

    I love this company I have 2 of the E600's and 3 of the E2000's. They make a good product and very reasonably priced compared to other brands.

      Same, I'm going to look at their bigger models... Comparing it to other machines I have tested or repaired, I was pretty impressed. Also I prefer LFP cells very much.

      @@solarpoweredge I have run into an issue where the fans come on with panels connected, but there is no light to create power input. The fans continue to run and drain power. There is no other output load. Have you seen this?

    • @solarpoweredge
      @solarpoweredge  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @clintc7355 I have seen similar behavior - except the fans don't come on. This happens under low-light conditions (no sun, but dim light), correct?
      If so, this would be a problem requiring to unplug the solar panels until you are ready to charge. I have seen similar behavior on multiple solar generators. Requiring that I don't plug the panels in until there is at least some sun. Otherwise, the power gained is zero and the internal electronics drain the battery until the sun comes up. Really wish there was a way to stop that from happening.

      @@solarpoweredge exactly! I was trying to leave them connected all the time so that I could have power to a shed. I wonder if it is one of those "you get what you pay for" caveats. The fans ran full speed when I had only 22.5V open circuit and one 100W panel. I then connected 2-100W in series for 48V OC and it fixed the problem, but then I noticed that the fans ran at min speed. I will do more testing.

    I love mine, got it about a year and a half ago on sale for 270. Price vs performance is extremely favorable and the surge capacity is insane for a unit of its size. A little funky when fully charged, it micro cycles the top 5% if your using it at higher wattages. I made a 12 volt to 36 volt charger for it so I can high rate charge it from a car. I used jumper cables, the minimum input for the mppt is 32. The size isn’t enough for an over night box fan but good enough for smaller ones. It dies top balance, so don’t forget to fully charge it from time to time.
    Mines 400 watt max, not sure if it’s truly 400 or they corrected later models and it’s actually 300.

      @lesliejerry3 Yes, this surprised me. I thought it would fail to start the AC, The surge demand is quite high. I expected overheating too, from solar charging. 600w load plus 300+w charging. I guess there are enough fans and cooling inside

      I spent some time reading through online reviews both good and bad. The E600 unit I received is still working and charges fine. It is on the workbench cycling as an AC/DC power source. After the endurance test of several days, I have been running smaller appliances now. So far this e600 continues to function 100%. can you please add a link to the 2.1mm adapters?
    i was only able to find one on amazon but they burnt out fast, very fast. i was using 100watt solar panels.

    • @solarpoweredge
      @solarpoweredge  3 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Hello, on the E600 I tested, the 2.1mm socket is rated for 100w MAX and isn't primary for charging. only ONE 100w solar panel should be connected to it at any time.
      For high power charging (2-4 solar panels), should use the supplied MC-4 cable instead (the one with a 4 pin interface, the larger socket).
      In case you still want the cable. I found one 2.1mm MC-4 cable on amazon that look decent with 14awg wire which is "ok". I didn't personally test it because I make my own. If you still want a link, I can post it somewhere - please let me know.
      OR search amazon for "vdl solar panel connector to dc 8mm 5.5mm" it's the 3rd result on the page (14awg cable) by VDL Store. Hope this helps, please let me know :)

    Hi - Thanks for the detailed review. I hooked up my unit to a 310w solar panel but noticed that the input watts never exceeds 170. My cable run is about 20 ft 16awg. Wondering if its due to voltage drop or the mppt in the unit is bad.

    • @solarpoweredge
      @solarpoweredge  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @calvinhobbes4584 Welcome! That does seem low. Hard to say if it's an issue with the mppt.
      Connecting the panel straight to the provided adapter would be one way to test whether the cables are causing an issue.
      Verifying input power: a clamp meter to measure the amps on the wire, and a MC-4 splitter to allow measuring the voltage while the solar panel is in operation. Multiply Volts X Amps and that's the actual input Watts.
      That said, trying a different solar panel is not a bad idea either. Just in case it's an issue there.
      Can also check the available short circuit current on the panel. Just plug the panel's cables together, and measure the current (Amps) using a clamp meter. Then compare that number to the label on the back. If you discover it's much higher than what the unit is consuming, then it might indeed have a problem with the mppt controller operation.
      Hope this helps

      @ov553 It has a surge rating, only for a short time. I recommend keeping inverter draw around 500w continuous. This unit is not intended for running heavy loads for a long time. Hope that helps.

    Good: display, 100W USB0C 200$ price is good!. Not preferred: Solar input should be XT60; power brick should be inside unit with just generic AC cord.

      @goodcitizen4587 XT60 is definitely more robust - I did not notice the provided connector getting hot. Maybe they are using 2 pair conductors in parallel, not sure.

    Can i use it for daily use aircon (0.5 hp aircon). With 800w solar panel. Or the device will get dead sooner?

    • @solarpoweredge
      @solarpoweredge  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @graphx88 Hi, for daily use, need more battery and charging capability. The E1500 LFP (or 2000) is a better fit for air conditioning. I used the 5000btu AC to stress test the E600 LFP, but realistically, I would not recommend this except for emergencies. To run an AC daily, the ideal minimum solar capacity for a 5000btu is 2-3kw/h. With 800w of solar charging that would be fine for sunny days and might even get through the whole night depending on how much time the AC compressor has to cycle. Just my thoughts... hope it helps
