    I enjoy that the Vipers went from a clusterfuck to an organized attack formation in about three seconds as soon as someone said there was a Raider.

      It shows that it is human nature to be tribal, and its the reason that multiculturalism and open borders with the dissolving of nations under the power of a few globalists is doomed to failure. Without feeling like they are on one team with a common rival, there is no cooperation and everyone starts fighting among themselves. Mono culturalist ethno-nationalism creates unity and with unity you create prosperity. And different groups can work together towards a common goal by encouraging pride within the tribe to be a motivator. This was seen even in antiquity, where mercenaries were rightfully split into different fighting groups according to their culture of origin and set to compete with one another on projects to attack the enemy creating a friendly rivalry. One-world melting pot is doomed to failure and is against human nature.

    Fun Info: For those who don't read the BSG comics and novels, Admiral Cain (while using the Pegasus) ended up actually losing in the war games repeatedly against older smaller Battlestars. The reason? Because she was incredibly inflexible, and not able to adapt to changing/unconventional tactics. She was too by the book. Other Captains, and ship commanders secretly made fun of her for inability to win with a larger more modern ship.
    Also, we find out that even though it's almost twice as big as the Jupiter class, the Mercury class's extra interior is mostly taken up by fabrication facilities (not weapons). So being bigger in this case is not necessarily an advantage. The Mercury class was considered a "test-bed" for new technologies (like on-board Viper factories), but was never intended to be mass produced as it was absurdly expensive. So only a few were made.
    Many Admirals considered the Mercury-class to be bloated, and preferred the smaller and cheaper Valkyrie-class (and older Jupiter class refits). Being posted to a highly expensive Mercury-class was considered a "prestige" post (but one with no fleet command authority). The Fleet Admirals stuck Admiral Cain on the Pegasus to "honor" her, but secretly they all thought she was crazy and unfit for commanding large fleets. They wanted her someplace where she wouldn't be able to make important decisions.

    For those of you wondering how those Vipers were doing tight maneuvers without colliding, each fleet command, meaning all Vipers from the same Battlestar have auto proximity avoidance system. This is for tactical purposes during combat engagements where the last thing you want to worry about is bumping into your wingman. It's also designed to prevent friendly fire from making contact. This system can be manually turned off, at the discretion of the fighter pilot. Please note, all vipers from Galactica and Pegasus had their proximity avoidance system active. They never intended to shoot each other, which the director purposely didn't inform the viewer to falsely heighten the stress tension.

      It's not that they didn't want to fire, it's that none of the pilots wanted to be the *FIRST* to shoot since whoever did would be the instigator in a shootout between both the Vipers and the two Battlestars supporting them (since they both had their main batteries locked on each other) which, in the long term, would only have served to weaken the Fleet as a whole.

    As a military officer this scene is actually quite painful to watch. In the last episode both Adama and Cain steeled themselves to launching their squadrons at one another. Amazing military decision making by both, snap decisions.
    Here, just minutes later, those squadrons are both flailing as they approach and must react to one another without clear mission or rules of engagement. The pilots call back for direction, for permission to engage. Response from both CICs: absofuckinglutely nothing. Putting your troops out on a dangerous ambiguous mission, without a clear understanding of what they are and are not authorized to perform….and sitting there while in weapons range of the enemy…with no guidance. CICs fail. Neither Adama nor Cain, thankfully, could in fact threaten the existence of the fleet as a whole over the lives of two crewmen.

      @@TheCoolCucumber, good comment, and I had to ponder for a few days the best way to respond. What I think that pair of episodes shows, and some later points such as Adama giving Tyrol a pass because he is essential, is that both in current military culture, as well as even more so in a fractured society like that, is that yes we in military swear allegiance to a nation and body of orders and regulations, but too often are tempted to set aside those when there is a conflicting loyalty to the team that weighs more. That kind of situation isn’t always problematic but can lead to instances such as here or to real world news reports where units are obviously not abiding by the rules of engagement because they felt it was the only way to preserve the team or mission from failure or losing battle buddies.

Lee and Kara recommended using the Blackbird (because you know it's a STEALTH SHIP made for recons) but Stinger shot the idea down and wanted to use a Raptor instead. The reason Cain removes Stinger from being CAG is because they managed to launch the Blackbird and do the recon mission without his knowledge.

      A perfect example of how a common enemy shared can unite two broken factions like this. The Pegasus and Galactica crews were claws out and literally asking for permission to shoot each other until what they believed to be a Cylon showed up, and immediately they unified to face this threat.

      @Fabian Kirchgessner but how do we know if she’s gonna win against the galactica, a ship made to take multiple nukes, railgun shots and missiles all in one battle? with a war veteran at the helm and multiple gifted pilots? personally I believe galactica. Pegasus may be bigger and have more guns, but if galactica gets either behind it or above it, it’s a done deal over with

    • @splatoonistproductions5345
      @splatoonistproductions5345 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @Fabian Kirchgessner except a few things, Adama is unpredictable, mostly unconventional, and Pegasus has barely any if any at all weapons facing upwards, if galactica gets above Pegasus, or behind then its over. plus from what I’m aware, mk 7 vipers typically are easier versions of the mk 2 to fly. doesn’t mean that the mk 7 pilots are better than galactica’s due to a bit of better tech. It’s the pilot behind the stick.

    • @splatoonistproductions5345
      @splatoonistproductions5345 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @Fabian Kirchgessner I know that galactica space combat follows more realistic expectations, but seriously, if galactica gets above Pegasus and they can’t manoeuvre quick enough, then galactica will deal massive damage. And really, no matter what angle they fight at, both ships will deal massive damage to one another. But I’d take an old man who’s crew is tightly nit, with what? 30 years+ military experience over a hotheaded adm cain and her near too regimented almost emotionless goons of pilots.
      but really I’d say in a 2D plane field, I think it’s really close.

      Picked up the transmission between Kara and Lee. It's encrypted so no one could read it, but it was still a signal that just got broadcasted from right next to the fleet. They can act as gunships if outfitted for it, but otherwise they usually act as Electronic Warfare craft. Any AWACS type role is usually carried out by the Battlestar they were deployed from since it has a significantly more powerful DRADIS and C2 capabilities.

    Just what we don't need inflexible commanders,especially on space warships,since both Pegasus,and Galactica carried warheads 10x more lethal than ones we've now in 2023,the cylons just get Cain to launch her missles on us here on our earth,and we,and the colonials would be fried,then in the 1978 series baltar would be the last human,even in 2008,unless the cylons let him live.
