Hey everyone! Thanks for checking out my first video. I look forward to making more videos and hopefully getting better over time! And if you have an Analogue Pocket let me know what you think about it in the comments below!
Cheers for you mate. In this video i loved the slow pace of your narration, and how you kept it interesting all along. I think it is great to have a less hyped content, a bit more mature and easier to digest. it feels like a breath of air honestly. Also the photography is beautiful, and those "out of gaming context" shots, stand out a lot, as they draw the attention to the product, while inviting to "fill" the context in which this shot "would" exist. (if i make sense). The influence is there, your touch is also there. And i am so happy to see such quality.
You have no idea how motivating it is to read comments like this! Sometimes I wonder if I should just bow to the algorithm and go for fast and flashy content. In each video I’ve tried something a little different each time to see what resonates with an audience and it’s good to know that some actually enjoy a slower pace! Thanks again!
@@matt_HM It is so sad when you guys end up working to please an algorithm. It is understandable that it is required in order to survive, so nothing is your fault. but for this algorithm they (youtube) are literally killing uniqueness and creativity. And they are pushing a type of homogenic content that turns boring in no time. Just to put an example: Few day ago i watched a 6hour long video about the entire history of gaming. In terms of algorithm thing, this video had to be flagged as bad content, or not interesting enough. Even tho, i watched the whole thing almost in one seat. That man took a super high risk, and probably will be punished for this. but his piece of content was so special. I recently discovered Tim Rogers and his channel Action Button. Each of his videos is between one and six hours long and I wish I was capable of doing what he does lol. I’m glad there are people like him doing what they want and succeeding.
This is the best advertisement/endorsement for the analogue pocket that I've ever seen. Really makes me wanna go out and buy one They need to hire you for their marketing team.
FPGA is something completely different from classic emulation, which is only software based (and therefore introduces input lag and incompatibilities). FPGA on the other hand is hardware emulation and doesn't have any of the downsides of classic emulation. That's because the FPGA actually reconfigures itself to work exactly like the original hardware instead of just faking it in software. So any game is essentiallyrunning on real/original hardware, because the FPGA became functionally the exact same as the GB's internal components (Memory, CPU, ...). But this also means, that some of the advantages of emulation aren't possible or only with greater difficulty. The screen filter thing of the Analogue is very fancy and HQ, but comes with a much greater prices, because it's in part solved in dedicated hardware, instead of just some software filters, which are available for free most of the time for classic emulators. Also most performance and graphic enhancements, which are available with software emulation are impossible with FPGA hardware emulation (because it's the real deal). One could overclock the original consoles CPU recreated by the FPGA to help games which struggled on original hardware or make others run faster, which are open ended ftamrate wise. But except from that there is not much possible (like injecting modern rendering features in the rendering pipeline). ... but then FPGA based consoles are built for the more purity focused retro enthusiast anyway, so for most people this won't be an issue. I just whish, we could have the best of both worlds, but the technology isn't there yet ... and maybe it will never ... except AI will be utilized to conceive and develope now ways of retro gaming technology.
I'm absolutely SHOOK. This is the greatest first video of all time. The script, the video quality, the editing, the voice over, just the overall production quality is incredible. I've GOT a Pocket and this video makes me want to buy another lmao. INSTANT subscribe
I just want to let you know that your cinematography is on another level. The vibes in your reviews are best in class. If my life in gaming is light mode, you are dark mode.
Bravo! This is one of the most sincere, polished videos I've ever seen on TH-cam....very tasteful transitions, not too busy, very classy! You're doing a great job!
5:06 I'm so much with you on this. I have multiple generations of PS and Nintendo consoles, an Anbernic, and even an OG Gameboy, and not to mention my PC steam library, so "more games" isn't what I'm looking for. On the contrary, with the pocket I'm pursuing a "less is more" kind if a strategy, a throwback to my childhood done right. As much as I enjoy the OG Gameboy it simply has natural shortcomings, such as the weight to screen ratio, which the pocket solves elegantly without compromising on the retro vibe :)
Scrolling through the comments and I find it hard to believe this is your first video. Bravo. I was on the fence regarding getting a pocket. Now I really want one.
The quality of the video, the voice over. The perfect combination of everything on this video. It's been a long time since I have seen something of this classy in TH-cam. Well done Sir and please, keep it up.
Thank you so much for the kind words! Would you like to see more energy in the voice over in the future? I was a bit worried it felt too slow or unnatural. Working on some new stuff I hope to release soon!

Sub'd because I'm thoroughly impressed with your first effort, highly polished with lots of attention to detail. Especially your audio--*perfect* balance between vocals and music, my ears are grateful.
Great first upload! This for a first video is out of this world, the cinematography and attention to detail is simply amazing! I too love the gameboy and enjoy the friction of still picking out games and enjoy them as physical media.
Your comment on "friction" is why people still collect and play Vinyl coupled with the experience. Great analogy. While I still play physical games for the ninth back to the the seventh generation, I'm okay going retro digital for two reasons (1) the convenience and peace of mind while traveling and (2) waiting for the retro market to recover from price gouging.
I completely agree with you. Most gamers, including me, want more, more, more. I spend more time thinking what to play or playing games for 10 minures then actually play a game for hours, like I used to. So in the end, I've hardly finished any games. Now that I've let that go, and buy less games, I actually enjoy gaming again and finish games before I move on the next. Anyway, great vid and best of luck with your channel 😉🤞🏻🍀
Thanks for the kind words! And you definitely hit the nail on the head! I was actually thinking about one of my next videos being about how to approach emulation sustainably. Discussing the merits and issues with accessibility and also touching on the point you made about thinking instead of playing. Reminds me of the time I spend scrolling through Netflix... watching nothing. Thanks again and I hope you tune in in the future!
@@matt_HM You're welcome. Yeah, Netflix. Great comparison. Exactly the same problem, it's all just too much 😅. Anyway, I've subscribed. Looking forward to your next vid 😉
My pocket will be here this week. 100% agree about emulation. I plan on using emulation to see if a game is gonna be interesting before I pick it up physically. Already have about 13 game cartridges and plan on expanding that immensely!
I feel the exact same way about having a bunch of games ...Im definitely one of those that prefers having the physical game...I don't have a crazy amount but I have some games that I can never put down once I start them...and im happy with that .. awesome video✨👏
My god, this might be the most visually pleasing and best edited first upload I've seen on TH-cam. No way is this your first try at cinematography. Keep them coming, you've earned another sub here. I cannot wait to see what's to come.
Hey! Thank you for the kind words. I only hope my channel will perform half as well as yours!! This was my first time filming anything like this. I learned a lot watching tutorials on TH-cam and finding inspiration from other channels. Thanks for watching and I’m hoping to get the next video out soon!
Great job on the video! Everything Analogue has done has been absolutely amazing! The only thing I would say they should have done different with the Pocket is use the orientation of the original GBA, aka with the screen in the middle & controls on the sides. That design is far more comfortable to hold as it's shaped more like a controller vs the dated top to bottom elongated design of the original Gameboy. There's a reason most mainstream handhelds use the side to side orientation now & have for decades.
It's such a huge thing to buy all the equipment needed to make high quality videos early on. I can see that you are really prepared to make quality content from the get go.
I actually wasn’t planning on it. There were some other videos I had in mind. But if it’s something you’d like to see, let me know and I’ll make it happen! thanks for watching!
First off, welcome to TH-cam! Excellent 1st video, the production is high quality. Second, I completely agree with the emulation side of hardware these days. It's basically over-choice, the same as streaming services. You can look through the library for a while before you decide you don't care what you choose, and then the choice has no meaning. But you obviously said it better in your video 👍
Thanks a bunch! Glad you enjoyed it! I think you described it perfectly. Sometimes I feel like I'd rather go to a Blockbuster than scroll through Netflix lol
I hear you when it comes to actually playing the actual cartridges and feeling more connected to the games that way. I feel the same way when it comes to watching movies. Streaming a film doesn't give me the same attachment to it as putting a Blu-Ray or DVD into the player.
There’s definitely a connection that gets lost when you move away from physical media. I’ll be sad in the future when games are released exclusively digitally.
Honestly, I don't think that going to happen anytime soon. Mainly because we live in a world where vinyl and cassette tapes made a comeback. So don't worry. Just continue to try to support physical releases where you can. So, companies continue to see the value in it.
Loved this! I have a pocket and for me, one of the best features is the dock. Being able to plug it in and play SNES< Megadrive, Neo-Geo and PC Engine on there on my TV is really amazing. I do also have the Mega SG though, and I still collect Megadrive games so that I can experience plugging in those games and really getting into them. Totally agree that emulation does just leave you swapping between games every few minutes. How on earth this is your first video is beyond me, but was enough to make me subscribe.
Thanks so much! Really glad I earned your sub and hope you check out more videos! I’d love any feedback you have! The dock is amazing and I didn’t talk about it yet… waiting to do a video about it and playing on crts soon.
My fiancé heard me talking about buying a funny playing gameboy color because I didn’t want to bust on a pocket and within seconds she was on the “thank you for your order” screen. I’m so excited for my birthday 😁😁
Top notch video! Subscribed. I've been contemplating what handheld to jump into first and this gave me all the nostalgic feels I needed to finalize that decision.
@@lewwtz I don’t remember exactly but I know that I preordered on the very first day they were available. And I received mine December 2021. It was a several year wait.
Great production value in your video! Crazy you are a new channel? I disagree that the Pocket is as flawless as you make it out to be in this video. It is still an amazing product. The flaws I found is: Insanely cramped gameplay for GBA or SNES titles because of the placement of the L and R buttons. Not only that, the L and R buttons sometimes will not register depeding on how you press them. Cartridge slot not replicating an actual GBA slot meaning games will not sit tight, and many accessories and games will simply not work (unless you add a cartridge extender). The link port is placed wrongly instead of in the top meaning things like e-reader+ won't work. Link port is also placed in the mid of the front and back case which are offset from eachother meaning the cable will not sit tightly. The indentations required for GBA/GC link cable are missing, so those will not sit perfectly and can easily slide out. It's clear the GBA part was heavily compromized. For playing GB and GBC is it probably the best device ever. But I find myself holding horizontal devices much more comfortable. If we can get a grip for the Analogue Pocket then that would help atleast. Or maybe the can release an Analogue Pocket Advance some day. Anyways, that's just my opinion. And I own NT Mini Noir, Super NT, Mega SG. All those products are near perfect, but not quite. Probably Mega SG is the most perfect of them. Super NT misses the MSU1. NT Mini Noir has some compatibility issues requiring you to switch firmwares depeding on the game you want to play. But that's besides this point. Just wanted to show that I'm well versed in the products :)
I absolutely agree that the Pocket is not flawless! I kind of didn’t know if I should make this a thorough review or more of an essay on why I think it comes closest to providing the nostalgic experience I’ve been looking for. I hope to improve my writing in the future and have a more clear direction for my videos. With that being said, my two biggest annoyances are how fragile the matte black finish is and how loose the cartridges are in the slot. Even if I handle the Pocket like a baby, the surface finish quickly started to wear away with normal use. To me that is borderline unacceptable. And I’ve had multiple games freeze just by setting down the Pocket. If the game hasn’t been extremely, thoroughly cleaned, it seems like any minor bump can cause the game to suddenly freeze. I think designing the cartridge slot to be so shallow was a mistake but I figure it was done to accommodate the shoulder buttons and to make sure the cartridge adapters didn’t get too tall. Anyways thanks for checking out the video! I’m working on my next one and hope you’ll tune in!
If there is only a Southeast Asian distributor I would've gotten this in a heartbeat. In a result of that, I had just modded GBA SP and GBC with IPS screens, new shells, etc.
A person of immaculate, and refined tastes I see @2:23 Fantastic video. Very very well put together, and great narration! My Spice Orange is here in 3-4 days, and boy am I excited! I just got their newsletter, talking about how with the new Firmware, OpenFPGA cores will get access to the Pocket's Screen Modes!
It very clearly _hasn't_ changed handheld gaming forever. It's a very interesting niche product with an incredibly good screen. If they were able to mass produce them and sell them at a lower price, I'm sure they'd have an impact in the market. The way things are now, however, they just don't. Would I love to have one? Sure. It's a great product. It's however: Unavailable. I'm not placing an order to maybe get it in a year or two and pay about three times as much as for a really good emulation handheld for the same platforms.
Yeah maybe a better title would be that it changed everything for ME. It’s made it really fun to go back and play through my collection again. I think even at the current price the Pocket is very much worth the money. Hopefully at some point Analogue will be able to keep up with the demand for their great products.
@@matt_HM Yeah, availability is certainly the bigger factor. At 199 USD, I'd probably have ordered one if it were in stock or "ships in 3-4 weeks" or something like that.
Really impressive video; almost all aspects -script, articulation, sound, editing etc have been wonderfully done for a first video. The only thing I would suggest is little longer duration of future videos with time-stamps. The part about 'easy accessibility' and 'cherising the games', struck the cord with me. Looking forward to growth of this channel.
Thank you so much for the constructive feedback! To be honest I was actually wondering if I should go with shorter content, around 5 minutes. It seems like, on average, people view about 40% of the video. I'll likely experiment with a few different lengths and see what resonates with viewers. I regret taking so long to talk about cherishing games and the issues with accessibility because it seems like most of my viewers never even got to that point lol.
really enjoyed your first video, beautiful and appreciated your perspective. it's true, the pleasure of playing a game from cartridge, maybe a game you've had for 25 years, running on well-built modern hardware is something unique. i'm done tinkering with cores, mapping buttons, remapping buttons, updating and then having to remap buttons again. i'm a geriatric millennial, I just want to insert a cartridge and play. looking forward to your next video, you've got something here and I wish you luck with the channel.
great execution with this video man, very calming voice and you kept it interesting the whole time. subbed and looking forward to seeing what else comes from you
absolutely great video, you deserver more subs. I totally agree with you, I prefer to keep my Analogue Pocket to play my cartridges like listening to a vinyl on my turntable. Too much choices kill the purposes of this device BUT it's to nice to know that you can have thousands of games on it.
Oh dude, If all your future videos are like this, You're going to be a TH-cam rockstar in no time! You singlehandedly nailed what's amazing about this device better than any other reviewer out there. Thanks for reminding me what I love about this device, and also why I got into retro gaming in the first place!
Wait hold on sorry for the second comment but you only have 600 subs? I thought you had a million or something you edit so fucking well you deserve so much more credit
Wow. This is a great take on the Analogue Pocket. And I agree; the best part is playing your personal collection. Unfortunately, I sold my collection a long, long time ago, and rom emulation is the only way I can experience my old games once again. And with the craziness of the “retro” cartridge scene, I’ll have to keep emulating my games for foreseeable future.
I don't think emulation is an inherently bad thing! If I sold off my collection I would totally get the roms for the games I love and play them. For me, it's when I just download an entire library that I feel like the experience gets devalued. Thanks for watching!!
The fact that Analogue systems have ALWAYS been focused towards being able to play original cartridges is what has always made their systems special, & I find it really sad that a lot of ppl don't get that. If you like playing on an Emulator, then that's perfectly fine! But at least understand why the diehard retro purists enjoy playing on orignal hardware. There is indeed something special about it, the experience is just a bit better, a bit more nostalgic. You would probably have to be from that era to even care I suppose. Sure, Emulation is free & that makes it a great option, but don't hate on those with the means to collect original hardware. It's a special experience if you know what you're doing as far as getting the best picture quality out of those systems. That's where Analogue nails it. Cycle accurate FPGA implementation of the original hardware along with razor sharp quality 240p upscaling via HDMI. It's just perfect.
This was a great video. Made me go dig up my old GBA from like 20 years ago, and after a little refurbishing it looks and runs great! Sadly I can't find any of my games except for the one that was already in it, Super Mario World 2. I might start adding to my collection again like I used to and eventually pick up one of these devices you just convinced me on getting. Cheers!
Great first video. Check out the CPS2 cores if you can as well. I wasn’t that interested in putting cores on my pocket(I only use cartridges so far for my GB/GBC/GBA library) but the CPS2 ports feel so fantastic to play on a screen this size with accurate FGPA emulation. I’ve been having a blast playing MvC on it. My only gripe is the dock is a bit underwhelming so far.
I’m actually a big fan of emulating arcade games. It simply isn’t practical to get original hardware in that situation! I actually am thinking of doing a video about the dock and using it to play games on crts.
@@matt_HM Ive heard it's useable without the DAC but I'm waiting for the DAC to get updated with support for the pocket first before I dive into getting one for my CRT. Looking forward to your upcoming videos.

Completely agree. I've had my AP for around 6 months and it is by far my favorite handheld of all time.
It’s so good!
Thanks! I’ve wondered it they’ll do a second version of the pocket with a GBA style layout.
@@matt_HM Wouldn't be surprised if they do that one day on a new edition of it. Will probably be quite a while before that would ever happen though.
It's such a huge thing to buy all the equipment needed to make high quality videos early on. I can see that you are really prepared to make quality content from the get go.
Let’s hope I can use it to produce videos people want to watch! 😆
The most amazing feature is the waiting time to get delivered. Ordered mine April 2022. Still waiting 😀
At least it’ll be worth the wait! Thanks for watching!
The quality of this video, overall, is on spot. Neat!
Thanks!! Glad you liked it!
Quite unbelievable this is your first video. Keep it up ✌️
Thanks for watching!!
Next videos on RG353V and Miyoo mini +?
I actually wasn’t planning on it. There were some other videos I had in mind. But if it’s something you’d like to see, let me know and I’ll make it happen!
thanks for watching!
@@matt_HMyeah I would but I’m sure I’m not the only one, videos on those devices have been doing well recently I think.
Bro this channel is gonna be huge one day! Loved the video 🙌🏻
Appreciate it!!
That was beautiful, great video man. Gave me some comfy "GreenHamGaming" vibes, keep up the great work.
Thanks! Haven’t heard of greenhamgaming but now I’m excited to check ‘em out!
that's damn good productions bro
Thanks dude!!
You sir deserve more subscribers!
Thanks! Spread the word!
such an amazing first video!
Thank you for checking it out!
Wow awesome video and production quality. Look forward to more videos!!
wow i was taken by this video! Very good video! Bravo!
Glad you enjoyed it!
The Analogue Pocket is my Favorite console right now.
I love it. Definitely in my top 2 favorite handhelds!
This video is awesome for your very first one! Looking forward to seeing more retro gaming stuff from you.
Thanks for the kind words!! I'm cookin up some cool stuff.
Can’t wait to see!
I’m a sucker for cassettes 😂
Great video! Can't wait for my Pocket to show up. They claim by the end of the year, so I'm guessing I'll see UPS on December 31st at 11:59PM 🤣
Got my fingers crossed for ya! Definitely worth the wait.
Thanks for watching! Hope I earned your sub!
25K views and 1.4 subs... Makes no sense. I agree.... This thing is amazing. Great content.
Haha growth is slow and steady!
Subbed immediately. Not ONLY is the video beautiful, it’s well written, and most of all the sound is spot on. Good work. Let’s have a lot more! 👍🏻
Many thanks! Hope to have another soon!
Man this video was so good I went out and bought two immediately! Can’t wait to get them and try for myself!
Glad you enjoyed it. Don’t forget to subscribe to see more videos soon!
My fiancé heard me talking about buying a funny playing gameboy color because I didn’t want to bust on a pocket and within seconds she was on the “thank you for your order” screen. I’m so excited for my birthday 😁😁
Hope you've been enjoying it!!
Top notch video! Subscribed. I've been contemplating what handheld to jump into first and this gave me all the nostalgic feels I needed to finalize that decision.
Thanks! I do feel it’s worth the wait and the money! Hope to have some more videos soon!
@@matt_HM About how long did it take to receive yours after pre-order?
@@lewwtz I don’t remember exactly but I know that I preordered on the very first day they were available. And I received mine December 2021. It was a several year wait.
Great first video :) keep up the good work and the subs will come. Pls more videos about retro handhelds.
Thanks! I have some more handheld content coming up. Let me know if there's anything specific you'd like to see!
Why is this product review shot like an A24 movie?!! insane quality!!
Hey glad you liked it! I think my other videos are even better when it comes to the visuals at least.
Thanks for watching! Hope I earned a sub!
"The analog pocket is the best device you can buy right now."
Reality: *SOLD OUT EVERYWHERE*
The Analogue Pocket is the best device you can preorder right now! Lol
This was stunning. This quality of documentary story-telling belongs on netflix
Thanks dude! Really glad you enjoyed it!!
Very nice cib collection! Great first vid, subbed
Thank for the kind words! Hope to have more soon!
Amazing first video, you'll have a silver play button before long I'm sure!
Thanks dude! Hope you tune in for my next videos!
If there is only a Southeast Asian distributor I would've gotten this in a heartbeat.
In a result of that, I had just modded GBA SP and GBC with IPS screens, new shells, etc.
A person of immaculate, and refined tastes I see @2:23
Fantastic video. Very very well put together, and great narration!
My Spice Orange is here in 3-4 days, and boy am I excited! I just got their newsletter, talking about how with the new Firmware, OpenFPGA cores will get access to the Pocket's Screen Modes!
Thanks haha! I cannot wait for the new firmware update! Hope you enjoy your pocket!
This video is pure quality. Great stuff, keep going👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks for the encouragement! Got some more videos cooking! Hope you tune in!
Agree about the carts! I’m the same way! Love the video! Love the pocket!
Glad you liked it!! Hope I earned your sub!
@@matt_HM absolutely. Love your content.
First video? Insane production man, well done.
Hey! Thanks for the kind words 🙏.
I dabbled with making videos a few years ago but nothing that involved using a camera.
Your point of view is very nice. Great video.
Glad you think so!
really enjoyed your first video, beautiful and appreciated your perspective. it's true, the pleasure of playing a game from cartridge, maybe a game you've had for 25 years, running on well-built modern hardware is something unique. i'm done tinkering with cores, mapping buttons, remapping buttons, updating and then having to remap buttons again. i'm a geriatric millennial, I just want to insert a cartridge and play. looking forward to your next video, you've got something here and I wish you luck with the channel.
It’s great to know I’m not alone!! I wasn’t sure if my feelings would resonate with others. Thanks for the support!!
great execution with this video man, very calming voice and you kept it interesting the whole time. subbed and looking forward to seeing what else comes from you
Thanks!!! Making it took a while so it might be a little bit before the next video but I'm working on it!!
Great quality video! Well done on your first. Subscribed to see what comes next. :)
Thanks a lot! Working on some new content!
incredible video, analogue should be paying you
I wouldn’t mind that lol! Thanks!!
Well said. I hope to get one soon as soon as they get back into stock.
It will be worth the wait!
As a first video on your channel, it’s bang for the buck🎉🎉🎉. Great work, keep going 👍
Thanks a lot! Next video dropping tomorrow!
absolutely great video, you deserver more subs.
I totally agree with you, I prefer to keep my Analogue Pocket to play my cartridges like listening to a vinyl on my turntable. Too much choices kill the purposes of this device BUT it's to nice to know that you can have thousands of games on it.
Glad you liked it! And thanks! I hope the channel keeps growin!
Im here before this channel hits 1k!
Here’s to hoping we will get there!
Oh dude, If all your future videos are like this, You're going to be a TH-cam rockstar in no time! You singlehandedly nailed what's amazing about this device better than any other reviewer out there. Thanks for reminding me what I love about this device, and also why I got into retro gaming in the first place!
Thanks for the support! Im trying my best! Working on the next one but I’m pretty slow. I want to keep pushing the quality!
@@matt_HM Awesome man! Quality will win out over quantity any time! Fight the good fight against those algorithms!
I’ll fight the good fight!
Wait hold on sorry for the second comment but you only have 600 subs? I thought you had a million or something you edit so fucking well you deserve so much more credit

Brilliant video. Subscribed! Love my A Pocket too 😀
Thanks!!
Good cinematography and editing.
Thanks a lot!
@@matt_HM Yes, the overwhelming quantity of games at your disposal can have a “cheapening” effect for sure. Lol.
Awesome video. Thanks
Can’t wait for the next one
I'm already working on the next! Thanks for watching!!!
Cheers!
Thanks! Those old games still hold up in my eyes and are pretty fun to play through again!
