This is how the movie should have bin. But tinseltoons fuckt it up. Bionicle 1,2 and 3 had awesome music, awesome soundeffects (bionicle 3 even got an award for that. And something else. But i cant remember what.) Awesome voice acting, awesome action, and when turaga likahn died i cried. And they realy know how to make think: so thats wat it means to be a Hero. And: god roodaka is awesome. But tinseltowntoons took it all away. All the things i just mentioned suckt in the legend reborn. The music suckt the sound effects where just pickt from the internet. But what botherd me most of all. There was no turaga vakama to tell the legend. And at the end you did not hear vakama saying: because that is the way... of the bionicle. At the end of the movie. And i know why. Vakama had his pride and did not want to work with tinseltowntoons.
Dude... the reason it's not like the first 3 is because it's not supposed to be. This is a whole new planet. Why would Turaga Vakama be narrating stuff that he doesn't even know is happening?
@ZombieBlobs I think I read somewhere that the decision was only made later on. That's why in the movie, Bara Magna's moons look like colorful asteroids with craters on them, instead of an ocean planet and a jungle planet. Or I could be confusing it with the other mess-up regarding the mechanical designs of the characters, when they were supposed to be mostly organic... I do distinctly remember that this was one detail that the Story Team only thought up after the movie had been already made.
Thanks! Although using TLR footage was pretty much a must... I had to fill the time it takes for Mata Nui to narrate the events with something, and there aren't that many shots in the original video. And I kind of like the shot where the "camera" travels up Mata Nui. It's one of the better shots of the scene, if you ask me.

But too bad the movie was ruined by forgettable music, bland villains, and an Annoying Girl and an Annoying Short guy that makes Crash and Eddie from Ice Age look like Likable Action heroes.
@LegoFig24 They left for Metru Nui a couple of months before Mata Nui awakened. They didn't know it at the time, but doing so was crucial because the island of Mata Nui had to be later cleaned off by the Bohrok, otherwise the Mata Nui robot would have had trouble poking his face through the island.
@ZombieBlobs Yeah, that's one of the great screw-ups of the movie's opening. But I give the animators some leeway -- I don't think it had been decided what distance it traveled when the movie was still being made.
The wiki says that the orientation of the stars and planets around the Bionicle Solar System sent the Mask of Life flying around and back into Bara Magna. My problem is that since Aqua Magna is the moon of Bara Magna, why did we never see Bara Magna in the skies above Aqua Magna?

I can't get enough of the man's work. I mean, I'm definitely not a musical person, and don't know one bit about how composing is done, but I'm extremely impressed with Furst's scores... considering he could have gotten away with much, much less. But he still put this much effort into these pretty forgettable direct to video children's movies. If only there was a way for us to acquire a full score of his Bionicle work... ... Yeah, I was gushing.

Why do so many people hate this movie JUST because it's different than the originals? It takes place outside the Matoran universe, what did you expect?
I don't think the setting has that much to do with it. It's just a boring, badly directed kids' film with shoddy villains, annoying comic relief, unremarkable visuals and music, and robotic character designs that fly in the face of canon. The original three are bad movies too, but at least they're more fun, the music is great and the directing and visuals are ambitious and creative despite the awful CGI and some questionable character designs.
1. The villains weren't very good because they weren't the focus. I think the real focus of LR was Mata Nui discovering who he really is, and what it was like to not be in full power. 2. There were some good visuals, like the Ignika creating a body for Mata Nui, and the Great spirit robot rising. I agree the soundtrack wasn't as grand as the first 3, but "Bye bye babylon" and "Ride" are really good. 3. The character designs in LR are the best from all the movies. They look EXACTLY like the sets. A HUGE problem with the first 3 was the characters barely looked like the sets at all, to the point where some characters I didn't even recognize until later viewings. The movies are based on toys, they should look a LOT like the toys.
Among various things the reason I hate it is that it is incredibly far removed from the Miramax in terms of...well, everything regarding production quality. Look at the Matoran models used in it compared to the ones used in the MIramax trilogy. They had a completely different level of detail, with eyes that didn't poke out. As for your defences: "1. The sets are primarily a guideline on how they should look, but there are details completely missed out on. Tinsel Town didn't do the best job for bionicle, they made the matoran in the beginning fine, but the Agori are supposed to be fully organic (or very little implants), but they made them too bionic.
This is kinda late but Voya Nui was south of Mata Nui. It was destroyed when the Toa Mahri sunk it. It crashed into Mahri Nui and closed the hole in Mata Nui's chest that lead to Karda Nui. Mahri Nui sat on l the robot chest
this is even later but voya nui wasnt destroyed. it didnt close the hole in his chest but the hole in the southern continent where voya nui originaly was. the inhabitants of voya and mahri nui survived in a giant cave in voya nui

What if Emperor Calus rules the body of the Great Spirit instead of Makuta, I mean can a Cabal emperor from the Destiny universe rule a gigantic robotic body from the Bionicle Universe?

Well first off, I wouldn't say it's the FULL score...it's more like a 17-track compilation CD of all three movies. Secondly, no. Sorry. They belong to Lego.
It depends on how you look at it; current scientific definitions would suggest it is not alive as it can't reproduce and doesn't abide by the typical useage of energy seen in carbon based life forms (needing to eat for example) But I think most would agree that once sentience, self-awareness and capacity for higher thought gets involved those definitions start to lose traction... it's that exact line of thought that will likely lead to a fight for sentient robot/A.I. rights in the future.
