I’m Dutch, but my God, how I love that Irish music, there’s no country, there are no other people that can make better music than you can, Irish folks…God bless you so you can go on making that beautiful and touching music…

Most indeedy. Though I love your country as well (One of my novels is set in Amsterdam. After my trip there where I fell in love, I felt the profound beauty of this town was not heralded enough…)

I'm 65 this week, Friday. I was born in 1954 in Dublin. I'm very proud to be Irish. I love you all. I was taken to England when I was 7. My Daddy had work there, no work in Dublin. I spent every Summer since 7 years old till 14, every Summer in Dublin!!!! I'm Irish, we are the best! Love you all.

My mother was born on Dublin, Ireland. This was one her favorite irish songs.. preferably the Mary black version. A few years after her passing my father, 3 older brothers and I went to Ireland to visit family... after a day of travelling the country side on on our way back to Dublin we found a small pub in the middle of no where surrounded by beautiful green fields. When we enter the pub it's the ending of a song and a brief pause of silence for a second or 2.. before the next song can come on i already knew what it was going to be, that rare feeling when you know what's coming, sure enough Mary blacks voice pierces through my ears with her version as tears rolled down my cheek, my mother was present with us at that moment.

i've never went to Ireland, but i think it's the country i would like to visit the most... so green, wild, mystic, old, beautiful, magic. There's a sentence that say "If you are enough lucky to be irish, you are lucky enough" something like that. I think it's really the idea that irish are born on a place like no other on earth , where these proud people shares to our world love of nature, beauty of music, and richess of mankind.
I love Ireland, and Irish for their history through the ages, they always have been brave and strong with a poet soul, overcome wars, repression, submission, diseases, poverty, famine and live simply, the celtic way.
have a good day, you irish brothers and sisters
think to you everytime i hear a Dubliners song or open a Guinness ! (mean everyday)

I am well traveled, I am from Manchester, England and now live in Texas, USA and one thing I have noticed no matter where I have landed is there is good and bad everywhere! Flags, religion, borders are all man made and people choose to dip on one side or the other tend hate and hate is always destructive and painful. I will always make a point on dipping on the side of humanity, hence why I love a man like Luke Kelly. It pains me to see such negative comments attached to such a beautiful song! Beautiful man who died way before his time and a beautiful song that rises above the crass comments made here. I'm an Englishman born in Ireland, my mother is Scottish, so I'm a proper mongrel. I'll fight all corners(or 3 out of4), so I reckon I'll comment on the song .I was over in Mayo a few years ago with friends visiting family. we stayed at a pub at Belderig Beig (apologies for the spelling) One night a coach pulled up outside, it was full of youngsters going to the local club (30 miles away!) Anyway, they had called in to see us, as they had heard about us, The Singing English! Obviously we sat, had a few drinks and had a few songs. The highlight for me, of that evening and that weekend, was of a lovely young lady in a lovely part of a lovely country singing Song For Ireland. Hers was the best version I've ever heard, Luke's was the second.

The brilliant and irreplaceable Luke Kelly. A unique talent who was with us for too short a time. From the comments on this clip and many others featured on TH-cam I've noticed that Luke Kelly (and the rest of The Dubliners) have a fan base all over the world and that they are especially popular in Germany. I was introduced to their music growing up in Ireland in the 1960s' and even though the original group is nearly all gone their music will live forever.
