3 "technicians" already have checked the board.. Hah. Anyways, I suggested on the previous video to buy the board, it is worth the value, in the worst case scenario for spare parts... But it comes up that is functional. Good call Sorin ! Keep up the excellent work !
Probably it is just type of techs that just replace motherboard :D. In my young ages i was working in that type of company, now sometimes i replace capacitors :D.
Honestly it must be common as I bought 2 MB's from this seller one was only USB C port and 2nd one was working without problems . I got convinced by your video and bingo twice !!!
Hi Sorin, i told you not to give so much credit for their technicians, i work in the same field and i can tell you, you have no ideea what kind of technicians are getting hired. Glad the board is working! 3 Technicians can't change a charging port, nice one!
the seller has so many motherboard, and too few time or people to check every single recovered part is working (or not). so is a game of speed, to list enough boards per day. it not worth the time, for them to get bogged down. so instead with ebay condition category sell a parts / not working... this is not unheard of. and if the board costs them $0 originally as an e-waste... then thy made a sure fire 30 bucks. for the work to make the listing in terms of broken charging port / broken tracks then yes, it does not worth their time. and maybe they can guess well for this common damages. anyhow, very interesting to see this example dead boards. a good learning experience to share with us here
That is a way of working. You tell the customer a price if you fix it and tell him other price if you do not, for diagnosis. It is gamble has you said. Here there is a price for diagnosis and the rest is customer decision.
When I saw all the broken circuit lines (pads) I felt like dying! How is that possible! Previous video some of the comments mentioned this seller is associated with insurance devices. Others said bought from the same seller generally board works.
I am really liking your videos. It's like a good detective story, and good learning tool. But you are way too honest, I'd have put the old board back and explain to the customer the real problem, and then you would tell them you have to source for a new or used CPU for the board... Then you should charge for market value of a comparable desktop CPU at least. You deserve it. Wish I could come to your store, too far from Toronto CA, and have my ASUS laptop fix. i also had the same story with my S series Sony vaio (dead MB core i5) then i bought a working MB with a core i7 for just 25 euros and it was working fine.. other sellers from the UK were selling the same board with core i5 for more than 35 euros... so, this is it... you always should go for the best deal even if the seller isn't really trusted one
hi sorin, i bought defective laptop from facebook marketplace, i usually buy the totally dead laptop ,they are 95% fixable than those with power but no display... i bought 2 already and i managed to fix them 😁, one i3 6th gen, and one celeron 4c+4t, i bouth them for 35usd including shipping fee...
Dear Sorin, I thought that the problem of this series of laptops of this manufacturer was the failure of the SOC Package . In my opinion, the motherboards of this company are not in a very good condition in terms of quality. I think if you buy a BGA device, your success rate will be higher, there are many cheap options like Seamark ZM Series
As I said, a lot of technician does not know to repair mother boards on a component level, they have a dead mother board for any reason, they do not even try to fix it.
So in this case the seller of the motherboard is selling mostly good motherboards but don't want to bother getting motherboards back, which is a great strategy from my point of view. Given that as soon said, I'd but them all for the repair shop as these laptops are going to be demanding lot of repairs. That's just my guess.
I have been to a RMA dept factory sale and there was mountains of PC motherboards - bought 5 and 1 worked -. I'm guessing it's from a RMA dept, ie, if they can't get it running in 1hr they just swap it out. So it's either the RMA selling the old stuff, or it's from e-waste recyclers where the RMA stuff is dumped.
Yeah. Completely agree. They call them "flea markets", "garage sales", "auctions" "swap meet", etc., they take a street in a city and set up their sales tables, usually on Saturdays from 8am to 3pm and you can buy from gadgets complete electronics even by separate parts. I also love going to a specialized auto mechanic because they don't get complicated, in the event of an engine or automatic transmission failure, they simply completely remove the old one and install a rebuilt one. I'm talking about the US states of course. A brotherly greeting from Mexico.
what?? solder mask?? no! that's wrong. we expect solder mask on the alex channel. here, it must be hot glue! uff. i hate this mixing. what's next? louis using a proper calibrated fuse? weird.
I am saying to my customers that if they like, we can risk. I'll buy a part, and spend time on a repair. If things will go sideways, they pay for the part, or I keep the device. Especially with TVs, laptops, phones and tablets. But with game consoles, I say that I can buy off game console if I can't fix it, I'll use it for spare parts. With dearer items like PS5, when you replace an HDMI port, you can see that an HDMI encoder can get faulty. Not often, but have 1 PS5 here with this issue. And, I've said to the customer that if he wants to proceed, now the repair attempt fee raise up to £50 because the chip itself cost £48 + my HDMI port.
