I can see things within it that someone could dislike, it feels unashamedly like it was written in about 2010 for instance. But if you take it at face value I’d say it succeeds at accomplishing all it attempts.
You’ve probably heard this elsewhere, but the rest of the series is a big step up. I’d agree that this book is fairly mediocre. His plotting is defintely a strength for the other books, so many twists, turns, call backs, pay offs etc.
I read this years ago and i enjoyed it to some extent, never fancied continuing the series.
Glad you had fun with it:)
I think it does what it sets out to do very well it’s just not necessarily what you might want from a space opera.
Poor Sevro is definitely the MVP of this series for me!
We are definitely in agreement on this ✊🐺
I’m a little weary on this one only bc I don’t care for the dark academia genre, but I still want to try this out next year. Great review.
I don’t blame you. I’m still not sure it’s for me. Luckily it is pretty much a side thought in this one.
It;s official then, it's me I'm the odd one out. I just cant see what everyone loves in this book so yes it's me😉

I’d actually say it was way better than mediocre so you’ve just boosted my anticipation massively 😃
