when I saw those 4 books I immediatley knew it was going to be the neopolitan quartet! I also read them this year, back to back and it's such a wonderful series. I absolutely adore it and there's nothing like it.
Thank you to all the people that support Elena from afar! It’s always a joy seeing people enjoying and embracing Italian literature, and I hope that other people from our nation will receive as much love as she did! I also recommend “everything calls for salvation”, very touching.
Ohhh, yess, at the moment the ones that come to my mind are Italo Calvino and Goliarda Sapienza, Michela Murgia (we sadly lost her recently) and Niccolò Ammaniti!✨
Three of these are my favorites of all time, too! Never Let Me Go, Rebecca and We've Always Lived in the Castle. It's always fun to find someone with similar reading taste. Will definitely add some of your others to my TBR!
I think you would love Toni Morrison. I always describe her book, “The Bluest Eye” as devastatingly beautiful. Her writing is some of the most well-crafted I’ve ever read and it’s my favorite classic!!
Thoroughly enjoyed your favorites list and what you had to say about them. I’m quite old now and some of my favorites go so far back that I can’t remember the specifics of why I liked them, but only the feeling that came from reading them. Black Beauty, a story told from an animal’s perspective. Anna Karenia, love and tragedy. David Copperfield, love, kindness, survival. You know that feeling when you are loving a book and you finish it and you are so sad because you didn’t want it to end. Gone with the Wind, I read 72 years ago. I felt submerged in that era when I was reading it. Thanks for your video.
the feeling we experience from reading a good book is such a treat and sometimes even surpasses the memory of what the book itself entails. I've never heard of Black Beauty but I have Anna Karenia and David Copperfield on my tbr. thank you for sharing
What a lovely list of novels! I read Talking at Night because you recommended it in a TikTok video and I want to thank you because it is my favourite book of this year! I adored it, even more because it made me sob. I'll definitely be checking out more books off of this list. 💕
Ahhh I’m so glad that you enjoyed it! That book felt like a rollercoaster with my emotions. If you are looking for something similar then I recommend One Day (I cried even more with this one)
@@cupofkeyshae i had so many takes that I never posted, and random clips that were never uploaded because i felt so odd in the beginning. It takes some getting used to. Subscribed to make sure I dont miss your first upload. You got it!
There were so many of these books I have on my TBR. I have read the glass castle and also gave it 5 stars. Have you read The Humans. My favorite book of all times.
You and I have very similar reading taste. If you haven’t read “Elena Knows” by Claudia Piniero, I think you would love it. Days of Abandonment by Elena Ferrante is incredible. Migrations by Charlotte McConaghy as well. Also, “On earth were briefly gorgeous. “
Elena Knows is on my tbr! I had checked it out from the library and then ran out of time before I had to give it back. Adored Days of Abandonment. I will look into the last two. thank you for these wonderful recs 🤍
Fantastic grouping. I loved a handful of these, have and haven’t read a handful of these and am immediately looking into getting my first Lispector books now too! 🤌🤌
The beauty with Lispector is that you can start anywhere, but Agua Viva is another good one that I enjoyed (also short for you to try out the writing style). Let me know what you think!
You have great taste in books! I read Tender is the Flesh and it wasn’t for me because it made my stomach upset reading it. But I totally see why it’s so well regarded. It explores what it means to be human in such a unique way. I kept asking myself how people could disassociate while eating the “meat” and not even think of them as humans. I reflected on how we do this with animals now and factory farming. I will say no other book has ever made me want to become vegan so bad. She must be sponsored by PETA 😂
omg yes. I was listening to the audiobook as I was making dinner. Specifically i was cutting chicken thighs during the chapter of the factory tour. I had to stop and reflect. You might enjoy Never Let Me Go. I can't explain further, but i think of both so often
These are great recs thank you. I think I will like a lot of them. Do you like Donna Tartt, Hanya Yanagihara, Lauren Groff? Those are some authors I think you may like too ❤
I read and loved The Secret History by Donna Tartt. I have started reading A Little Life already, but I haven't heard of Lauren Groff yet. Any book in particular I should start with for Lauren?
@ The Secret History is so good!! That was the first of hers I read. In the end I think my fav of hers was The Little Friend. Odd book but I liked it a lot. A Little Life is great but her new one To Paradise I really enjoyed and it’s a bit less sad overall. Just a bit too long so I listened to some of it. For Lauren Groff maybe Fates and Furies or The Vaster Wilds! Enjoy 🫶🏻
I read the short story "The Lottery". I think that was the name of it and I think it was by Shirley Jackson. That story so horrified me though that I really didn't like it and I guess I don't enjoy Shirley Jackson. I absolutely love Rebecca. I've read it so many times and it always takes me away from whatever I have going on at the time.
I love memoirs. I thought The Glass Castle was O.K. I also read her follow-up book about her grandmother's life. I can't remember the name of that one. I really didn't like that one because I really disliked her grandmother. The memoir I love is Blackbird by Jennifer Lauck.
The Glass Castle is the only book I’ve read by the author, but I think I’ve seen the cover of the book you are referring to. I’ll look into the memoir you mentioned. Thank you!
Great list!!🎉 I loved I Who have never known men so much!! I actually made a video with my interpretation of the moral of the story!!❤❤❤ (it's called Women in translation)
Such a breath of fresh air to have a list that is not all classic books. This is a great list! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for watching ❤

i read the last three back to back and wish I would have savored them more. so so good

If you have any other italian authors please let me know. The only one I have on my tbr is A Girl Returned by the author Donatella Di Pietrantonio.
Ohhh, yess, at the moment the ones that come to my mind are Italo Calvino and Goliarda Sapienza, Michela Murgia (we sadly lost her recently) and Niccolò Ammaniti!✨

Toni Morrison is a genius! 'Sula' is my favorite of hers!!
omg yes I read The Bluest Eye a few months ago and completely agree. I have Sula on my physical tbr
Except… it’s not classic.
@@june1319 yes it is look up the definition of classic and it fits the category of american classic
Never let me go has my heart. One of my faves for sure 😭 also your copy is so beautiful and loved ❤️
welcome to the fan club! i will defend that book foreverrr

Every book you talk about, I’m like “okay, I’m reading that book next… no, I’m reading that one.. wait THAT one” 😂
ahahahha i love that but also sorry 🤣
Wonderful list, nice to see literary recommendations that are also plot driven. Added a few to my TBR!

Great book recommendations I’m going to read a couple you mentioned thank you 🙏

It’s so good! I’ve heard that Everything You Ever Wanted by Luiza Sauma is similar
Huge fan of Elena Ferrante, Kazuo Ishiguro, and Shirley Jackson (although I haven't read WHALITC yet).
