I think the number one thing people don't realize the difference between Hangtime and Jam is that you can do so much more in Hangtime. Fade aways, interrupting your dunk to layup, team fire, alley-oops, moving jump shots, better blocking, rpg elements for create a player. It's just a better game in almost ever aspect.

N64 version has much better animation, and smoother looking on a whole. And no version is gonna look exactly like the arcade due to the much higher resolution the arcade game had. The MK ports had the same issue. However, at the time this was straight up the next best possible thing, and was easily one the N64’s best home ports.

You havent lived until you have created a player with maxed out attributes and a Basketball head; Caught fire in-game and double dunk alley ooped with your siblings while doing 20 front flips in mid air.
LMFAO This game was one of the best N64 games to play with friends. Each shove, every spin move, and every 3 point swish that managed to not get blocked, meant soo much more. Friendships were lost and gained, lunch money was bet on, and when we took our skills to the local arcade we demolished anyone that tried to play us.
NBA Hangtime is one of those games that no matter how old you get, when you see the funky dunk animations you still laugh your ass off. This game was NBA Street before NBA Street ever existed. Without games like this, the dunk contest would have never innovated the way it did in the early 2000s by the hand of Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady, Jason Richardson, and other dunkers years later that grew up with games like this.

One of my favorite games ever made, I rented it from Blockbuster for years, and they eventually put it on sale and i bought it for like $5. It didn't need a memory card because it saved it all on the cartridge, so i was able to bring back my season from years ago with my password even after all those other people rented it lol What sucks is that I lost the cartridge, and have a N64 emulator, but I've never been able to find a ROM for this game that works. I was a sucker for arcade games back in the 90s. Also being a big NBA fan back then I loved NBA Jam and when I saw NBA Hangtime in the arcades I was excited that there was a graphical and gameplay update to the NBA arcade series from Midway. In 1997 I rented the Genesis version with my then best friend who I had soon lost contact with and played it for hours. Even the Genesis version looked good to me back and played well. Soon after I found the Genesis version in the bargain bin at a local Target store and bought it. I was so excited that I finally was able to own this game and played it for hours on end just as I had when I previously rented it. Obviously the N64 was the better version but back then there was no way for to own a N64 and this game so I had to make due with the Genesis version.

The PS1 is the lesser of the 3. the PS1 version looks nice and all but the utter lack of the awesome animation frames really makes it lose the flash of the arcade version. still solid but the snes port has more frames of animation I think. and this this port is just insane. Love this game! More now then ever. Fun, exciting and very amusing. The sound is so bad! Everything else is just plain fun

Think, NBA Hangtime is the best "2D NBA JAM" version outside.

I laughed when you said did you find it in the bargain bin. I remember it was $80 USD when it first came out (pretty normal when the n64 first came out)

I played it on the Super Nintendo. I bought it new for 10 dollars. It was some time around the release of the Dreamcast. I sold all my snes stuff before becoming a game collector years later and now wish I had this complete in the box again

By far the most hours i've ever put into a video game was this one, and it really wasn't spectacular it was just addictive

I remember playing this game at my cousin's house, who also had an N64 but he was more inclined to sports games while I prefered action/adventure games. Still, we played the living fuck out of this when we were about 6 or 7.

If your down 10, you’ll make whatever shot you take anywhere on the court. This whole series is pointless.
