    I like your video and your creativity. I think you can re-route the engine exhaust to outside of the tent so that you would have to inhale the exhaust while checking out the system. Also, I hope there is a relief valve somewhere on the discharge side of the compressor and on the gas tank inside the car.

    Sir, this is a fantastic video. Thanks for sharing. Can you tell us more about the natural gas well? How did you create it? What did it cost to install? Is NG only available in certain areas in the ground? What city are you doing this in? Questions of that ilk would be great to get responses on!

    This I believe is a phenominal idea and looks like what I have been wanting. I would love to correspond with you and speck this out to the point that I could build it. Most of my gas gets burned, or blown of thru a standpipe during the summer and I would much rather save it!

    Commenting the end of the video. Methane is considered to be far more effective green house gas than carbon dioxide. According to different estimations the warming effect of methane is 20-40 times greater than in CO2.
    If being conscious, the loose CH4 could be burnt at the end of the exhaust pipe to CO2. I think that is what they do in commercial power plants.
    Great work!

    This setup isfor natural gas motor vehicles, (CNG) The high pressure compressor could cost $7500 and the storage for 5000cuft of high pressure gas another $5000. Vehicles require 3600psi to fill their tanks. A barby, home heat etc uses .5 (1/2) pound pressure.
    Most people with gas wells, the well will supply home needs without storage.

    Thanks Alex, for the prompt reply. I'm in the beginning stages in making a digestor system, for using our goat, sheep, rabbit, chicken, cow, horse poop to make bio-gas/methane to use in our home appliances and at one time or another convert my old truck to use the gas. That is why I wanted to know about where I can get the compressor. Thanks, I will keep in touch to find out the price.

    very nice job!!! may you explain the adaptations that you made, in order to turn a regular air compressor (scuba ones) into a gnc compressor?. Many many thanks in advance!!!

    This system always stores as a gas, so it is called CNG compressed natural GAS,
    Liquified natural gas is another process (LNG) and involves very cold temp plus high pressure.

    Thank you for sharing. Do you also capture, store and pressurize for use by water heater, to cook with, gas barbeque, etc? Where would I find a little professional help in this area? It seems like everywhere I look people say not to do it. I don’t understand why.

  • @truckinjeff

    Would it be technically possible to vent the relief gas into the tank (to act as an accumlator to control spikes in pressure) and then route that back into the low pressure gound line on the suction side of the compressor? I'm sure it would be some help to control the loss of gas not only in an environmental aspect but in a conservation aspect.

    I have a similar situation as you, in that I have a small, producing oil well on my property. I use the wellhead gas to heat in the winter, cook, and heat my water. However there are times in the winter when temps get low and pressure drops to the point that all appliances will not run. In the summer there is an abundance, though. What I want to do is use a compressor system such as this to "stockpile" CNG during the summer in the equivalent of a propane storage tank. Wouldn't this be possible?

  • @oudotcom

    Well done ! But can you tell us what the lowest cost of a compressor would be to compress
    Methane gas into a propane gas bottle ? Could this be done with just a normal air compressor somehow safely ? How much PSI do propane or butane gas bottles have for camping usage ?
    As we could easily make Methane gas from a digester it is now only the last problem to store the Methane gas compressed in a propane bottle...
    Many thanks.
    Regards, Stefan.

    • @thearchitect4726
      @thearchitect4726 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can compress methane into a propane bottle but the ammount you will have in there that can safely be stored will be very little. Propane normally is around 320psi, cng is stored at around 3000 psi, if you attempt to store cng at 3000+ psi in a conventional cylinder you will have an explosion. From my reading around and what I have learned from speaking to people, you need to modify the compressor in a coupe of ways to handle cng.
      1- All low pressure piping need to be replaced with stainless including all fittings.
      2- crankcase ventilation needs to be vented into the intake of the compressor to prevent laks from blowby.
      3- crankshaft seal on compressor may need to be revised
      4- head gaskets on compressor may need to be revised
      5- provide a condensate drain
      6- provide a high pressure cutout for the compressor
      If electrically driven, you will need a spark proof sealed motor, contactor and to operate the system in an outdoor area keeping all flames away. The most compatible type of air compressor that can be adapted from my understanding is a scuba air compressor, as most of them run higher air pressures around 4000psi meaning they have the ability to safely compress gasses at that pressure and will require little modification except for crankcase ventilation, pressure limiting adjustments and plumbing to relevant applications.

    Way to go! Great vid and great idea! And, hey, I'm the first to post a comment!!! you should find a way to hook one of these up to Congress. Think of the gas you'd get ... oh, ... but it wouldn't be pollutant free.

    Hi I just got a 4 stage compressor, I own a CNC machine shop also.
    My plan is to connect the the gas line at our business to the inlet and use a filter and water trap. Then compress the gas to 3000 psi directly to the truck CNG tank. Does this sound correct. I am concerned as to what if say some air were to leak or be sucked into the compressor, could this mixture be explosive?????
    Thanks great setup you have

      Why wouldn't you just bottle it in propane tanks and re-enginer the fuel system like a forklift, or put a Kubota diesel engine on it and swap the head for a special natty-gas head, just a thought

    awesome setup, that so awesome to get free fuel, from your farm. However the answer your question about why the whole country isnt doing this its probably becuase of production. Inorder to mass produce enough gas for the whole country we would need ALOT of plants tp produce. My guess is, after a piont it isnt cost/space effective....however i could be wrong. i mean we do use alot of CNG for homes, i wonder how much of a load running all our vehicles off it would add to our current systems?

  • @balbin57
    @balbin57 13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @jimschrader50 The compressor has overpressure fittings on every stage. To be safe, I installed a T fitting and a long hose to take any blowoff gas away from the machine. NG is actually easier on the machine than Air, so they will run a long time with out maintance, (except Oil)

    @SaGalv United States has enough natural gas to meet ALL its motor fuel and heating needs for 100's of years. CH4 (natural gas) comes out of the ground ready to burn (like on my farm) It needs only a bit of filtering to be 100% useful. It is distributed to virtually ALL cities and towns across america by underground pipeline. If every town provided a CNG (compressed natural gas) fueling station, fed by pipeline, we could graduall eliminate our dependence on foreign oil at a cost of 800 B

    why indeed isnt the world doing it, probably partly because we dont all have natural gas on our property ;) I came across your video researching how to compress wood gas to achieve similar energy density to lpg. With the amount of power it looks like is needed to compress it, it might undo the worth of the wood gas angle.

    The kohler k582 engine is gasoline driven per their website info. The only natural gas engine they make is the ch740ng. So it sounds like the source for the natural gas comes from a well this farmer has drilled? Great for him but not exactly a source that most people have. I'd like to see a source that uses animal, vegetable or human waste to generate the NG. Then this would be used to power vehicles or an electrical generator that uses NG.

  • @atari7001

    @oscars97 If your scuba compressor is equipped with an automatic moisture venting system, all vent lines should be routed to the exterior. All electronics that may be present must be relocated to prevent sparks (esp relays) from becoming ignition sources. Motor should be sealed (no vents) or explosion proof rated. Oil should be mineral based only (synthetic foams in NG). Never operate the compressor in an enclosed environment (NG leaks or failures can cause accumulation / fire hazard).

      I'm looking at using a small scuba compressor to set up an at home filling station to use my homes CNG to fuel my work truck. Any info would be appreciated. Thankyou

    • @atari7001
      @atari7001 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aaronknowlton3996 I discovered the biggest reason not to use CNG is because compressor lifetime can be short. I found somebody online that modified a large Bauer K14 block compressor to run at 1/3 speed and ran it that way for 30 years without an overhaul. I did the same and have had similar luck. Running a big compressor slower significantly increases lifespan, which makes breaking even a lot quicker and more certain. Put a 5 gallon(ish) tank on the inlet to increase throughput due to the quick inlet pulses of the compressor. If you have moisture filters on the compressor (which you should, because this is another reason why CNG has dwindled in residential settings- due to car tanks and valves failing from moisture contamination), vent them to 2 or 3 100 gal propane tanks rather than venting to air or attempting to maintain high pressure in the system. Filters hold a lot of gas. You can then relieve the tanks into the inlet on the next fill. Safer and doesn’t stink. Put the system in an outdoor shed and crack the door when running. Don’t attempt an indoor install. Leaks crop up when you least expect. Be prepared for 1-1.5 hr per gallon fill times for a residential meter. If you can get a special 2psi meter from the gas company, your fill time will fall dramatically. All electrics need to be placed away from the compressor itself, into a separate or exterior facility. If it’s a scuba compressor, all cylinder overpressure valves need to be vented to the exterior. That’s about all I can think of that may have caught me by surprise. Holler if I can be of any further assistance…. CNG is the best. If I can help it I’ll never switch back to gasoline. I wish you luck!

    Incredibly noisy compressor, even at this small scale. Not only ill effects of loud noise but low-frequency noise (inaudible to human hearing) and its whole body effects (See Amy Mall/NRDC post 2-22-10). Gas burns clean but is not at all "clean" in its production (shale gas extraction can cause air and water pollution. Contrary to "not much of a pollutant," methane is a major worsener of greenhouse effect. Fascination with machine without seeing big picture. This fellow is misleading.
