Valleyfield closed in 1975 and I think that was the last mill to close in Penicuik. I know as I was an apprentice mechanical engineer when it closed. I started in 1974 and made redundant in 1975 after Reid International bought them out. I only worked on Saturday mornings and during the holiday shut down (2 weeks) as I was full time at E.D.E.T.A. college, Leith. The mill was a massive place with 4 paper making machines. Loved all the guys that took me under their wings. Davy French was my Journeyman and in the little time I was with him he left a big impression on me as not only was he an excellent engineer he was also so kind and had a very peaceful aura about him. Thanks for putting this up, great wee clips you have.
