    There's nothing like the 'golden hour' to film... well, just about anything!!! While all your videos are epic and beautifully shot, the 'golden hour' simply takes it up to a higher level.

      Thank you Michael! Yes you're definitely correct about that! I wish the train had got here about 15 minutes earlier but it still turned out pretty dang good.

    I'm a UP fan so I really liked this upload. The new paint scheme is pretty simple but nifty. It's always great to see a freshly painted locomotive, when she's still clean and shiny. I'm sure the big bosses can enjoy lots of luxurious things on this train. From the fine foods and drinks to the comfortable beds. I'm certain this is a very nice trip up to Canada and the passengers loved every minute of it. Excellent video again Dan, thank you for your effort and hard work.

    • @TheRailfanDan

      Glad you liked it! It is a pretty dang sleek looking train and this makes the longest version I've ever caught. Usually I see them at about 8 cars or so. They sent one with 3 cars through my area once.

    A spectacular video of one of my favorite places in Washington to see trains! If that train had arrived 15 minutes later, you probably wouldn't have had enough light to get video of it.
    I did a Snake River / Columbia River cruise with American Cruise Line a year or two ago and our cruise ship went under that bridge. Unfortunately, it was after dark, and pitch black outside. It was a moonless night, and so dark that you couldn't even see the bridge from the upper deck of the cruise ship. But I had been tracking our location with Google Maps and I knew we were coming up to the bridge, so I went to the top deck of the ship to see if there was anything to see in the dark. Nothing... pitch black... as we approached the bridge. Then I heard a rumbling noise. The exact moment we passed under the bridge, a train was going over the river on the bridge. I'm pretty sure that I was the only passenger on the ship that knew we had just gone under a train.

    • @TheRailfanDan
      @TheRailfanDan  ปีที่แล้ว

      I was standing down below just waiting and I knew the train was getting close but no idea exactly where. I stood at the ready with the drone powered on for about 45 minutes until I heard my radio going off indicating it was close. All the while watching it get darker and darker! Started to get pretty nervous there near the end with as dark as it was but was handsomely rewarded.
      Oh that is neat and not something many people can say at all! That had to be pretty satisfying at the time I imagine. I knew there was some kind of cruise that took place on the Snake but no idea about specifics. Is that something you actually stay overnight on the ship for?

    • @JimZim
      @JimZim ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheRailfanDan The river cruise actually lasts for an entire week. You can do it in either direction... start at the coast and cruise up the river, or start in Clarkston, Washington, and cruise down the river. We did the downriver version, cruising down the Snake River on the first night of the cruise, including going under the Joso High Bridge there at that point where the Palouse River joins the Snake River. The rest of the cruise was going down the Columbia River from the Tri Cities all the way down to the coast. I enjoyed it!

  • @7ideaproductions

    That was superb Dan! Nice contrast of the Cascades and the Palouse region. Great lighting too.

    • @TheRailfanDan
      @TheRailfanDan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much Aaron! At first I wasn't sure if I would make these two short individual videos but I'm glad I went with one for the very reason you say. The contrast between both is pretty neat! Definitely lucked out on the lighting. Stood here for about 45 minutes with the drone powered on and ready for takeoff watching it get darker and darker.

    • @7ideaproductions
      @7ideaproductions ปีที่แล้ว

      I have been there! What is worse is having the drone in flight too early and having to swap batteries just as the train arrives. (I am thinking of some great 4449 footage that I can't show you!)

    Fantastic Dan, great light at Joso and the music is bang on. In my world this train makes the occasional shippers special trek north of the border to the Potash mines in Saskatchewan. Your drone shots are a great resource for getting the details right. Really enjoyed this one! Cheers. -grant

      @TheRailfanDan  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much Grant! That is very generous of you! I am very glad you think that about the music because I too was very satisfied with it as well! I wondered if any of these UP OCS trains ever actually made their way over the border. I believe this one stopped right at Eastport and turned around and came right back.

      Happy to contribute Dan. There is a photo in Nils Huxtable's "Rocky Mountain Sunrise" of the UP OCS consist in Alberta being led by a pair of Maroon CEFX 90/43macs in November '05. The train was heading from Portland to the Twin Cities via Canada so it's been up here at least once! -grant

    What a wonderful video! I think the Joso Trestle is becoming my favorite bridge. It just stands so tall and majestic looking. Plus, the scenery around it is so stunning. I thought the shot from behind the train up through the cuts was great. Well done, Dan! Well done!

    • @TheRailfanDan

      Thanks a lot Chaos! It's one of my favorite for sure. I love the region as it is so to have this out there is a massive cherry on top. There are a few spots back to back on this line including this bridge which makes it a really neat area to railfan but the traffic levels can be pretty low at times.

    You really produced an entertaining video, Dan! The drone footage of the Union Pacific Office Car Special in the Pengra Pass area was beautiful. The passage of the same train over the Joso Trestle was breath taking. Looking up at the bridge from ground level was outstanding. I really enjoyed this video. You were lucky to have enough daylight left to catch the train going across the Joso Trestle. Thank you for documenting the Union Pacific OCS train in both of these locations.

    • @TheRailfanDan
      @TheRailfanDan  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Thomas I'm glad you think so! It was pretty great to get the contrast of the two different regions and even more special since Pengra is basically my 'backyard' as I like to say. I knew the train was on its way and getting close so I was standing at the ready with the drone powered up ready for takeoff for about 45 minutes until my radio started going off indicating the train was around the corner. Just enough warning to get off the ground and fly ahead of the bridge a bit to start recording.

      Oh I'm so glad you think so! It was a decent sized check off the list to get one of these Executive passenger trains on that bridge since they don't run very often and even less often specifically over the bridge. The last one I knew about was over 3 years ago and it seems to be getting even more uncommon as time goes on.

    • @TheRailfanDan
      @TheRailfanDan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Mike! I know it was sprinting at a pretty good clip and I was extremely satisfied I was able to keep up! They put those antennas on the lead units of those trains when the executives are actually riding them but I'm not sure what they do. It might be a kind of WiFi or something?

    My friend and I hiked around the mountainside to get to the west porthole of 11 several years back and it wasn't as daunting as one would've thought. Did you know of the access portholes along the side of that tunnel? There are two of them, which I think is really cool. Don't hang out in there too long though, especially after a train passes. You can become asphyxiated very easily due to the carbon monoxide!
    Beautiful video, as always, Dan. Keep up the great work!

I was wondering if i were crossing that bridge on foot and a train came would I die, in the middle it looked like there wouldn’t be any room for me to escape, and I’d either be crushed or have to jump to my death. So, I guess I won’t try crossing it after all. I’ll just stay home and watch your films instead.
