When I was a poor highschooler riding to my school 20km one way in like 2 degree weather, i had plastic bags over my 30euro Chinese no brand leather gloves. I would shift into the right gear and then tuck my left hand in my crotch, and every stop I would hug my tank and put my hands on the engine. I still remember the feeling of warmth when you enter the city.

Over the years iv tried all the gloves, i did 5 years as a London courier out in the all weathers as you say winter gloves are pants and a waste of time because once your digits do go cold they will never get warm again in those gloves, i found the handle bar muffs worked a dream kept the cold wind off and kept your hands dry but they dont really look that good ! these days i have found heated grips and o my they are a dream and i can now wear my summer gloves all year round i also dont like those naff winter gloves because i like to be able to feel what iv got hold of ! and winter gloves just loose all feel of the bike controls, i still put my muffs on but only if its proper tanking down with rain, i still commute on the big v twin ktm every day so i need something that keeps me warm and dry, Excellent vid RJ..

This is the only video anyone needs to see about winter gloves. I've tried pretty much everything that RJ has including multiple winter gloves (goretex and non goretex), Rukka Lobster, silk inner gloves and bar muffs. The only thing that really works other than heated gloves are bar muffs but they look hideous and I never got used to not being able to look at the control switches.
As RJ says no (unpowered) winter glove works below 8 to 10 degrees C. I suffer from cold hands during the winter and only heated gloves were able to fix that problem. Well done indeed for taking the time to do this video.

Thanks for sharing. Only just back biking after 22 year absence and 200£ already spent on so called winter gloves, I realised they're rubbish. I bought the RST Paragons in the Black Friday sales and they too just get warm enough rather than toast your hands. Here in the UK, anything requiring such heat to keep your hands warm like the Gerbins, then it's probably not really suitable to ride anyway.

  • @49ccscoot
    @49ccscoot 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I also had multiple pairs of winter gloves and tried liners and had heated grips on one scooter. Finally shelled out the money for heated gloves a couple of years ago and immediately wished that I had done it long before. I've used them down to -20F and my hands still get cold at that temp after a while, but 32F/0C is no problem for long rides. Grip heaters and bar muffs also work very well without having to wear a glove with more bulk, but I don't like the feeling of being tied to the bars to any degree.

      @DBOLT666 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@jakemills7612 Good morning Jake, congrats to you too on passing your MOD2 👍🏻
The gloves that I have are the 2260CE.
I will be honest and say that I've not really used them that much as I didn't have a bike last year so have only used them this last month.
I originally bought them to save my hands whilst doing the MOD2 as it was bitterly cold and they were faultless to the envy of the instructors 🤣
As with all winter gloves though, they are bulky and a little cumbersome but where the PARAGON come into their own is where the heat is directed onto the back of the hand.
I have heated grips on my bike ('21 MT09) so with both the grips on and and gloves my hands are encompassed with heat 😊
The only gripe is the longevity of the battery and when the gloves are on high heat, they don't last very long so managed to buy a pair of spare batteries which I swap out, one pair for the commute to work and the other for the journey home.
I have heard of a few issues with the 2260CE though on a few forum chats and have been know to fail so I would personally try to hold out for the 6's.
I hope that helps mate, happy/safe riding 👍🏻

Standard winter gloves are actually fine for most people...as they're not going to be riding a naked through winter. If you really want to be a glutton for punishment, ie looking good through winter on a naked then err good luck to you. Most others I suspect will simply use some combination of muffs, heated grips/clothes, hand guards, winter gloves and are happy. Taking away the windchill prior to it hitting your hands is the biggest factor and that's actually easily achieved.

Got heated grips as well as Heidenau K73 SiO2 M+S tires on my 701 SM. Have some really great merino wool thin gloves to have inside my Revit Taurus GTX gloves when it goes down to 0 degrees and below. Only time i stop riding is when the rear of the bike starts sliding (ice on the highway).

Best one is (for some bikes) just putt your hands on the engine casing. But if you have leather gloves make sure to use leather moisturiser or it will crack and ruin them over time

I found heated gloves to be a bit too faffy too so I resorted to Barkbuster Blizzards + good winter gloves and grips, they leave the controls open unlike other hand muffs so they aren't as warm but with heated grips it's enough to be comfortable. Sometimes I'll wear liners on really cold days but this combination makes it very easy for me.

I had a hunch that buying an extra large pair of gloves would be smart and it worked brilliantly. My gloves have a little room for air to accumulate around my fingers. I learned this trick from buying extra large socks.

All I want from a winter glove is a good fit, armour, cos I've had the plate on the back of my good gloves flattened and dented in by a crash saving my hand, and no perforations, and a short cuff.

I had a top notch Dainese Gore Tex gloves. When they day was cold (less than 6ºC give or take), I could keep my hands warm for no longer than 20 minutes. Then I bought a heated Garibaldi gloves. Now I can get to the office warm even the worse days :)

I've just given up riding in winter altogether. I find that I lose more time faffing around with all the layers, locks, covers and warming up the bike than I make up by filtering. Especially with the constant rain that we have this autumn it's really not enjoyable taking a bike anyway.

Well, since I am cursed with heated hands, meaning they are always kind of hot, I do okay with standard gloves. I've got the Held 2in1 gloves (pls don't ask for the precise name) and without heated grips I ride up to 2 hours at 5°C!

Good stuff. My first year riding through the British winter (South Coast). Recent cold snap and my hands were frozen. Aching, not working right and bright red when I got to work at 7am. Got some heated grips and definitely better on my hands, but not fingertips 🥶 Like you, tried 5 different pairs (including lobsters). Looks like heated gloves are the way to go. Thanks for this vid, very much appreciated. Now to talk nicely to the wife and convince her that “RJ says I NEED these.” 🤣

Try handlebar muffs with the heated grips first, it's cheaper. Plus keeps your hands dry - no more drying off the gloves... They look dorky as fuck but when you ride in the winter it's not usually because you wanna look cool it's because you haven't got another choice

Did you get any heated gloves? If so, did they keep your fingertips warm? I've heard that with most of these gloves, the heated elements don't go all the way to the tips :/

@@turbochimps Hey 👍🏼 Alas, I did get a pair - but not the same as RJ’s ones. They were cheaper, completely not waterproof(!) and perhaps proof that you get what you pay for. Either a case of getting a proper quality pair or perhaps taking Devon’s suggestion and getting some handlebar muffs for this year…

just bought a pair of gerber xr heated gloves, spent 15 mins attaching the wiring inside the lining of my jacket and 5 mins attaching power supply lead to battery on bike. now both in semi permanent position.
easy peasy, no charging to fuss over or worry about level of charge in batteries in gloves.
i can ride all day with warm gloves. it`s a no brainer, also cheaper than buying the charger and spare back up batteries.

I Just ordered new gloves, been riding nearly 2 years with just summer gloves, right through the winter. Unless there's snow or ice on the ground I prefer the bike. But yeah, many a times I got off the motorway with no feelings left in my fingers. To the point that I'd actually hope for a red light so I could stick my hands over the engine. Funnily enough my local shop actually advised against heated gloves, better get cheaper gloves and/or fit heated grips in, they said.
Guess I'll find out soon enough /shrug.

Got the Dainese Tempest D-dry (been told heated grips and gore-tex don't play too well)
Got the Oxford heated grips (Sport, not that it matters ( MT 07)
Also got my less expensive summer gloves
The Dainese with the grips I need to have it tops at 75% on colder days, they get really warm and the gloves are already great on keeping some heat (water won't get in, abused by me, approved)
The cheaper summer gloves even on colder days I can't really get the grips at 100%, they burn my hands, stupidly once did 40km at 2AM, cold AF with them at 100%, got home and my hands were red from the heat :D
So, my honest opinion, the oxford heated grips were just a bless. They have proven to be the very best 60€ I've spent in regards to hand comfort on the bike, although if you drive a lot on cold days, get as well a good pair of gloves :P
There we go, my 2 cents for the motorcycle community :3
    Ride safe y'all !

Hestra, there not motorcycle gloves but will keep your hands warm on any occasion, went camping up in the north of Finland a couple of years ago, we went quad biking out on the snow mobiles and the guide was wearing these so I decided to try them out warmest gloves by far there reasonably priced and tough as old boots, I have a pair of ergos and the best ones IMO are the Lars felt gloves tough, comfy very very warm with their wool liners, made from extremely tough goats leather theres no armour but very thick and quite dexterous for there size cannot recommended these enough for the cold weather

If going for a non-heated glove, you can't go wrong with the Rev'it Taurus GTX. They are reputed to be the warmest, driest winter glove on the market. Okay, a little expensive but they are top shelf! Goretex and Primaloft Gold insulation. They have more protection than the average winter glove, and if you think about it, winter is probably a time when you're more likely to come off your bike.

Had the Gerbing and almost had a serious accident fumbling the front brake after a car cut across me turning right in wet cold London traffic. They work well for heat but like you said are far too bulky and awkward for me personally so I sent them back. Now use heated grips and summer gloves which struggle in low single digits and minus temps, looking at adding hand guards, but may also try the racers out.
