Oxford Super Muffs are nearly the same as they made over a decade ago, they still provide such fantastic wind and rain protection that i'll use my leather summer gloves up until it gets real chill, under 10c, then i'll pop in some silk or merino gloves as an underlayer. That being said, they're not the most elegant looking solution 😅
I have some goretex winter gloves and they leaked, in fact they were so wet, I could wring them out! I believe this was because of my BMW RT’s heated grips. Is this a “thing”?
It's not something I've experienced, but many trustworthy people have so I'd say it is a 'thing'. The theory goes that Gore-Tex works by stopping water transferring from cold environment (the outside) to warm (in this instance, your hand). Heated grips make it hotter on the outside of the glove than the inside, which puts Gore-Tex into reverse. Contacting Gore-Tex under their Gore guarantee should tell you whether the water came through because of a membrane fault... www.gore-tex.com/en_uk/support/product-claims I hope that helps. My anecdotal evidence is that two Thursdays ago I had the grips on and my seat. Both the gloves and the seat of my pants were soaked through. This was on my 65 mile commute to London. Yesterday, it was torrential again, I didn’t put the seat on and my arse was dry. I didn’t put the grips on, but there was some dampness, though it could have been cold. My pants are a laminated goretex BMW Streetguard and the gloves are the two chamber BMW Goretex Tenda. Last week, I struggled to dry my kit (shitty RST jacket leaked on the chest and arms so thermals everything was soaking). I ended up wearing some disposable rubber gloves and turning the grips on which was a brilliant solution. In the heated gloves, how do they overcome the Goretex pore issue, if heating opens them up? Also, what’s the point of heated grips if you can’t wear Goretex gloves when you use them in the rain?
The only solutions I've ever heard for Gore-Tex are to wear waterproof over-gloves, which seems to defeat the point, or how putting your hands in the 'thin' side of a warm/cool dual-chamber glove keeps skin temperature up and stops the reversal - I can't imagine that actually works, though. I remember it being a selling point for gloves with Sympatex that they didn't go into reverse when used with heated grips, as the material isn't porous. That's not a brand you see much in motorcycling these days anyway. Cheers, Tony

I’m now going to buy an airbag vest and to stop wearing my RST jacket. I’ll stick the vest under my old BMW kit, which has enough inflation room.

Don't waste your money on Rukka gloves. They are made in China & are poor quality.
