The F-14D had the same radar as the world famous F-15E Strike Eagle, and it could out carry the F-18 in ordnance, and have a longer range. The engine upgrades were going to give the Tomcat 32000lbs of thrust per engine, around the same as the SR-71's engines, this would also enable it to super-cruise at Mach 1.3, and give it much greater efficiency. The very best demonstrator airplane you will ever see. Also, properly described as the greatest looking fighter jet ever to be seen in actual air to air combat. An airplane that had it all!! One thing about the F-14 Tomcat to point out is that it simply can outfox any SAM, ballistic, or guided missile you throw at it. But what people should know also is that this airplane pretty much can fight an entire combat aerial attack, all by itself. Yes!! Just one!!!! You can get the very best pilot in that cockpit say, and it will happen. F-14 Tomcat forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Such a stunning and handsome aircraft! I remember watching them practice from the flight deck of my ship! At U.S. Naval Air Station Cubi Point, Naval Base Subic Bay, Philippines Soooooo impressive!
Where do you start?? WOW!!!! Hi all from Ireland. We have a small air show in Bray Co Wicklow every year (big to us :)). We suffer from appalling commentators. Does anyone know who the "God" doing the commentary here is and if he is still in the game? If he is I want to pass his name to the organizing committee. Yeh I know pipe dreams but sure you can only try! On a "side" note. WHAT A FREAKING GREAT VID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's amazing just how strong this aircraft looks in the air. With its wings back or forward, its just beautiful. Its a shame what needed to happen to keep parts out of iran. But this beautiful bird shouldn't have retired in the first place. =/
It was time to retire these birds. They were old and required a significant amount of maintenance. The super Tomcat is another story though. Look into that one. They were combining some stealth features into the legacy f-14 design, increase capacity almost all the way around but the navy went with the super hornet instead.
Why bother "dog fighting" when the Tomcat with Phoenix missiles can take out the enemy from 100 miles away? When building an AirFix model in my teens 40+ years ago, it was certainly my favourite and now sadly missed.... And having ACDC's "Thunder" in the background just made this video so, so appropriate. :-))
It's funny you should say that. It's what they thought during the Vietnamwar and they got fucked by the quicker, more agile Migs. It's why they started the Top Gun academy, to teach pilots how to dogfight again.

Took a Tiger cruise on the carrier Roosevelt and saw launches and recoveries of the Tomcat. Even a supersonic fly by. Incredible! Got to sit in the cockpit and get a personal tour with a pilot. Would not let me take a ride though. Boo hoo.
Tomkatts only exist in films like this one. As great as they were, the platform was just too oldschool to upgrade to 2019 specs. Like they could never be stealthy. They had almost no internal room for ordinance. They were an analog plane lets face it. You still needed to muscle the stick. But I guess when you are THE badass on the street, stealth is a minor item. My uncle worked on the Phoenix missile. When it was paired with the AWG9 radar, they were a fearsome combination. They were their own AWACS.
F14 Tomcat forever! Let us all petition the Navy or even the Air Force, for a more advanced version of F14 (Super Tomcat), that is designed with stealth qualities in mind. Such a design for this airplane was already in the works by Grumman, but unfortunately the program was not pursued by the Navy! However, if the American people really ask for this jet back, the Navy or Air force shall probably listen to the nation's request to rebuild a modern and stealth version of this beautiful aircraft, and put it back to service. I know I am just dreaming here! But a man can always dream about the mighty F14 Tomcat! 😀
Great looking aircraft. I have always wondered how pilots dealt with wing sweep and EM during dogfights. Wings extended slows the aircraft and helps with turning but wings swept creates speed. These all come 8nto play per John Boyd and I’m curious if pilots trusted the computer or made manual adjustments. Also, the space between engines is huge. I always wonder if the pilot could leverage more power in one engine to affect turn performance...?

One thing about the F-14 Tomcat to point out is that it simply can outfox any SAM, ballistic, or guided missile you throw at it. But what people should know also is that this airplane pretty much can fight an entire combat aerial attack, all by itself. Yes!! Just one!!!! You can get the very best pilot in that cockpit say, and it will happen. F-14 Tomcat forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's beautiful that it's actually almost a deltawing with the wings swept back completely.
I was stationed at VFC-12 in 1998. I was there for that show.
Such a stunning and handsome aircraft! I remember watching them practice from the flight deck of my ship! At U.S. Naval Air Station Cubi Point, Naval Base Subic Bay, Philippines Soooooo impressive!
This aircraft definitely lives up to its name the tomcat, with each flyover the jet roars exactly like a wild animal
Fantastic aircraft...I had the pleasure of seeing them fly at a Japan airshow in 1999 & 2000.
Definitely one of the sexiest if not THE sexiest plane ever made!
20:28 F-14 performs it’s famous bow to spectators, as a thank you
It's amazing just how strong this aircraft looks in the air. With its wings back or forward, its just beautiful. Its a shame what needed to happen to keep parts out of iran. But this beautiful bird shouldn't have retired in the first place. =/
I know. It’s sad. It just cost too much for parts especially after each sortie. Ugh.
They went with the age of stealth man…way of the future
@@juanmallqui9309 then combine stealth, swept wings, and twin engine tailed fighter, boom F14 S Varaint lol
It was time to retire these birds. They were old and required a significant amount of maintenance.
The super Tomcat is another story though. Look into that one. They were combining some stealth features into the legacy f-14 design, increase capacity almost all the way around but the navy went with the super hornet instead.
Love da footage. Amazing eye n camera Thanks for sharing
Gone, but never forgotten.
miss the F14 tomcat. baddest fighter
The Phoenix was FAR from perfect. The US Tomcats have only fired 3 in anger. 2 of them failed due to motor malfunctions & 1 was 'easily' countered.
The F-14 could mess up most planes in a dogfight, still
i miss this beast terribly.
I can't agree you more!
Damn, now I have to watch Top Gun... again... 😅
awesome power, wish they had one one the uk airshow circuit.well filmed btw.
Great nation great technology

Pure power house of all jets
She was a great bird, but like another favorite of mine, the SR71, technology has surpassed the risk and price of her usefulness.
Great comment, you seem to understand it.
Took a Tiger cruise on the carrier Roosevelt and saw launches and recoveries of the Tomcat. Even a supersonic fly by. Incredible! Got to sit in the cockpit and get a personal tour with a pilot. Would not let me take a ride though. Boo hoo.
Thundercracker, Blitzwing - whichever one you are, both of you - protect your leader, Mighty Megatron, at all times.
This has to be the coolest jet every to soar in the skies of planet earth
A Grim R. Performance. Shot!
I think they should’ve kept the tomcat in action. It was a great machine.
Preach brother
A fine fighter. So sad don't see her in the sky
Pilot was Marcel Padilla, from Texas!
I know the Navy is missing the 14 something awful! That’s the best military aircraft we have ever built!
Wanna see her fly in person one day sm
Wonderful Aircraft loudest plane ever. And I've seen every plane in are arsenal broke my uncle's windshield
Well you would have to go to Iran to see it fly in person. Iran has the only operational F 14s.
Love the TACDEMO Tomcats. No tanks, no rails. Just a clean machine.
One of the beautiful airplanes ever made...
we are watching even in 2020
Anytime Baby!
When she worked. She was a great aircraft. Age and politics win everytime. Glad it was retired at it's best. Adds to the nostalgia
the most beautiful fighter jet ever built
Great looking aircraft. I have always wondered how pilots dealt with wing sweep and EM during dogfights. Wings extended slows the aircraft and helps with turning but wings swept creates speed. These all come 8nto play per John Boyd and I’m curious if pilots trusted the computer or made manual adjustments.
Also, the space between engines is huge. I always wonder if the pilot could leverage more power in one engine to affect turn performance...?
The wingsweep is controlled by the computer. You can do it manually but why would you, it's distracting and a computer can do it way more efficiently.
I remember this day truly at Oceana
