If you get a compatible bluetooth adapter it should work without needing to use remote play. I used “Mayflash Magic-S Pro 2 USB wireless adapter”. Works fine but there are a couple of issues:
1. I read that the headphone jack on the PS5 controller won’t work if using this method. I don’t use headphones when I play so that doesn’t bother me.
2. The bluetooth connection will need to be reestablished if no buttons are pressed on the PS5 controller for a while.
Why did I do it? coz Amazon was having an offer on Sony PS5 controllers that meant that at that time a Sony PS5 controller was $10 cheaper than a Sony PS4 controller.
By the time I bought the Magic-S bluetooth adapter I didn’t end up saving any money (together the PS5 controller + bluetooth adapter actually cost me $15 more than simply buying a new Sony PS4 controller ) but, hey, it’s fun to experiment.
Also, this way, when I get a PS5, I’ll have a spare PS5 controller to use with it.

Ps remote play has some delay. You shouldd buy a controller adapter which work on all playstation and xbox generations when you want to connect newer controller to older generation. I recommend these adapters forexample: adapex r 100 pro, titan 2, magic n2

It works. You just got to follow the same steps except just look for the setting on your PS3.

Side note from what I have used them for the PS5 controller only appears to work on PS3 games that were originally for PS3.
Example it works for God of War Ascension. IT will not work for a God of War ghost of Sparta or chains of Olympus or Okami HD. But for some reason it does work for the God of War 1 and 2 HD Collection

I think the reason why the HD Collection works is because I actually have that as the physical copy. While the other ones are digital copy. However I have God of War Ascension for PS3 digitally when I used it
