  • In this tutorial I'll show you how to make a simple Zeus Mission Template with arsenal boxes so that you can go in game with friends and dynamically create all sorts of missions with just one mission template and a friend that knows how to operate Zeus.
    Arsenal init(put this in the init field of anything in the game and you can open arsenal from it. This includes boxes, objects, vehicles, and even players):

    NOTE: Respawn is for multiplayer only! Additionally, respawn_west is only for the Blue faction. If you want to respawn the Red faction, it's respawn_east. respawn_guerrila is for independent, and respawn_civilian is for civilians. You can have all 4 down in a mission for each faction to have it's own respawn point.

    Q: What are your system specs?
    A: i7 6700k, Geforce GTX 970, 16 gigs of ram, 250 gig SSD, 500 gig SSD
    Q: What do you use for recording?
    A: OBS for video and system audio; Audacity for personal audio.
    Q: Why don't you play in First Person?
    A: I'm a 3rd person gamer. I hate first person. Please don't try to "convince" me otherwise as if I am unaware of the gaming style I prefer.
    Q: Were you in the Military?
    A: US Army 99-06, Radio Operator(25C). Non-Combat Veteran.
    Q: Is that AI or real people?
    A: If it's an ArmA Mission it's AI unless I very specifically state otherwise. The 506th doesn't PvP.
    Q: What ArmA 3 mods do you use?
    A: AiATP, RHS Escalation, CBA A3, TFAR, ACE3, cTab, FHQ Accessories, DAR MAXXPROs, grace weapon sway fix, Ares, mrb A3 Voice Stop, Switch Weapons While Moving, Cypress push-to-hear, Mighty's GAU8, ASCZ Missing Content, Recoil Fix, 506th Custom Factions, Tweaks, and Sounds(not publicly available)
    For SF missions: VSM Gear, Enhanced Movement Mod, MOCAP Melee mod, MCC, SMA Weapons, Robert Hammer Pistols, and a variety of ArmA community maps.
    I am no longer using any iteration of JSRS due to the problems it causes on servers. It was discovered in Feb 2015 that all versions of JSRS for the past 4 years have been causing massive amounts of errors on dedicated servers so it has stopped being used and I don't use another sound mod. This includes JSRS Lite.
    Q: Can you upload that mission so I can play it?
    A: Nearly all of the missions I play are dynamically created by someone controlling Zeus in ArmA. They are therefore not available for upload.
    Q: No debrief?
    A: When we debrief in game I leave it in. We very rarely debrief in game. Debriefs are rare, not the norm, and they never will be.
    Q: Why don't you do X when you Zeus?
    A: I Zeus by a very strict set of guidelines set forth by my ArmA unit to maximize the fun of the people in the mission for whom I am Zeusing. The goal is fun, not punishment. I don't need a hundred Monday morning quarterbacks telling me "what I should have done" or "how I would have done it" or "how this other person does it". All I need is for my guys to say they had fun at the end of the mission and I know I did it right.

    "Disable AI" does not mean that you can not play it in single player. It means that in a multiplayer game the AI does not fill the empty slots. If you want to play a mission with 5 people, you will get 3 AI players unless you check "Disable AI". You will always have 7 AI teammates in singleplayer, regardless of this setting.

      for days i have been trying to find a way to remain in control of grouped ai upon respawn. i always join the leader position and i have control over my team until i die. then another AI takes charge. Is there a way i can stay in control of my grouped ai. ive looked all over for something, and have found nothing other than it can be done. I should also tell you ive never edited any files in my mission directory.
      I'm running cba mod cups mods terrain/vehicles etc. exile, eden enhanced and mcc.

    Thank you for posting this. I was having a lot of fun with Arma 2 years ago building crazy missions for my friends and I, but I've put off learning how to do it in Arma 3 for years now so I never got into the game. Even though I bought in really early on. This finally gave me the ambition I needed to get back at it thanks!

    Man arma 3 really is doing an excellent job of not getting stagnant. Both for players and content creators, from map makers to video makers like yourself. Like the videos where you play Zeus are equal parts informative, cool, and funny as shit (thinking about a few hilarious moments). Gotta give Bohemia some credit.

      I look at ArmA as a game that's a different experience every time you play, and that brings it a great deal of longevity. Add to that the fact that it's moddable and players can make their own maps, and the sandboxishness of it all, it's years and years of non-stagnant gameplay.
      You can even take one of my more recent mission series as an example, the one where we were police officers on Sahrani. Sahrani is the ArmA 1 map. It's 15 years old, and it's still usable in ArmA 3. And no matter how many times you've done a mission in the same town over the years in ArmA - every time you go back it's still different. Different enemies, different approach, different fortifications, and a different outcome.
      Before I found ArmA, I had been playing WoW for ~7 years. At some point I really started to hate WoW. I don't know when it was, but I finally realized that it was due to the fact that I was doing the same fucking thing over and over and over and over again every single day. I was a PvPer in WoW. It took the WoW devs something like 6 fucking years to add a second Capture the Flag map. They could have pumped out 10 in one day. PvP was the only dynamic thing you could do in WoW. PvE was the exact same thing every. single. day. At least PvP was unpredictable, but it was largely ignored and the maps were extremely repetitive.
      Repetitive is the best word I can think of for WoW other than "grindy", which it was. I played UO before WoW. UO was this massive, open world MMO with this amazing community on almost every server. You could make your own quests in UO as a guild and have other people run through them. Competetions, tournaments, UO was amazing. Fuck you very much EA. I am greatly looking forward to Chronicles of Elyria because it finally, truly seems to be a spiritual successor to UO.... but now I'm rambling.
      Then I found ArmA. Something that has a map so large you can play on it for a year straight and always have a different experience. And that's just one map. There are dozens of maps for ArmA.
      The point I'm trying to make is: when you give the players creative control, the game will never end(at least until the engine/graphics are so dated as to no longer give you the experience you desire).

      Very well spoken, I could not have said it better myself. I have had similar experiences with games, not for the extent of time you have, but I completely agree. With the majority of games coming out recently seeming either so generic, or just like an excuse to make money with minimal effort, this series really gives me hope that someone knows how to do something right.     thankyou! for these videos, as a pc game noob these are extremely helpful. I will be watching these vids many times with a notepad to jot everything down.
    I not even tried online game yet LOL, as I'm still learning the controls id just be a liability out there. struggling in campaign (The east wind-Radio silence). with 11.7 hours. such a complicated game from only playing consoles in the past. and k/m is so difficult not to mention arma3 is so overwhelming.
    all that said i love the game already, as I see the potential it holds for when I have the knowledge and got comfortable with how it all works.

    Ever since Op. Flashpoint i've been fascinated by the editor. I've been away from the game for a year or so, and finding out that the "old" editor is dead got me worried. But thanks to this vid, i see that the Eden editor is a really nice evolution.

      The best part is that you just hit the map button and it basically turns into the old 2d editor. And since the engine has changed very little in that aspect since ArmA 2, most things translate across both games and all iterations of editing.

    Regarding the virtual ammo box...
    It took me ages to work out why this was not working for me.
    I was going to the crate and pressing "i" expecting it to be inventory, and all I got was an empty crate.
    Eventually I discovered if you use the scroll wheel on the mouse you get an option to choose "arsenal" from the menu that appears on the top left of the screen and all the goodies are there....

      It's part of the base game (updated to the newest version, but without the DLC's your won't get the HD version of the DLC's. Does that answer your question?

    If you highlight all players and right click chose edit loadout. You can customize all players at once. Then go to each individual and change what you want inside the editor. You can also put down a MP respawn module and highlight all players and sync them to it. This will let you respawn on squad mates.

    I'd recommend mission asset pack mod from steam workshop. Adds a bunch more to modules and configuration options to units like ambient movements and stuff. Makes life heaps easier.

    When you build a mission you need to turn all your mods off first, otherwise they get automatically included in the file and other players can't play the mission . Only load the mods that you want in the mission. Things like 'Sway fix' & 'Advanced movement' can be loaded after the mission is published.

      First of all, this tutorial is completely mod free.
      Secondly, you're incorrect. A mod that you have loaded will only become required for a mission if you use some aspect of it to build the mission. The two mods you mentioned specifically are both client side and have no objects or modules to put down in a mission, so they would not be required for a mission if I were running them while building the mission.
      Only if you use something from a mod, say:
      Leight's OpFor - I put down an opfor unit from his mod in the mission itself
      ACE - I put down an ACE Module
      does it become a requirement for the mission.
      So yes, to be safe when building a mission, you should have all mods turned off unless you're making that mod a requirement for the mission, but it's not necessarily necessary.

    You can also edit AI weapons and gear individually by right clicking on the AI and clicking on 'Edit Loadout' which brings up the virtual arsenal.

    3 questions for you .1 how do I take off stamina ( I did the whole click each playable character and unenable stamina but when I play it there is still stamina on), 2 how do I add the abilities to use earplugs and holstering of the weapons, 3 how can I place squads of playable characters but still have the option to make groups in game like player menus send invites thing? Love the tutorials watch s few already been a big help.

    Good tutorial! Got one question though: What are, and how to access on editor, those vehicles internal inventories, if you wanna customize (or at least check) them out? Or are they just empty as default? Naturally you could fill them anyway you like as you got access to arsenal at start, but i’d rather make them ready the way i like without hazzle with arsenal.

    Jester, when you play your multi player missions, do you host? We took my old gaming rig and turned it into a dedicated Arma 3 server with a 25 slot TeamSpeak. All free!!!! It really helps free up the mission as far as FPS is concerned.

    hey man you're videos really helped me get started on A3editor but I cant work out how to do an intro.     Jester! Thanks a bunch for going over this stuff! I'm VERY new at making missions and the such. I have a big question. I've got the ammo box down where you can configure your loadout like you have with the init string (thanks for actually putting it in the comments) and everything but I can't find an option in there where you get more magazines. Do I need another init line? Or do I need to put another box down with a different init line? Or am I missing an obvious click to get to where you just add magazines. Please help! Great vids!     There is no need to type in respawn west.You just need a respawn position and then select side and type etc in atributes.

    To Open the old 2D Editor (The Best For Mission Making IMO) Select the map name, then press CTRL + O , Then It'll load up :)

    Is there a away to change the OPFOR faction for the Base module ( the one that auto mans a Base ). For example, set it to russians (RHS) instead of CSAT. Thanks!

      The default game does not do that. ALiVE mod does that. It will be mil objective module that mans the bases. But you need multiple modules for it function. But in less than five minutes you can man a town and base with modded OPFOR units.

    for days i have been trying to find a way to remain in control of grouped ai upon respawn. i always join the leader position and i have control over my team until i die. then another AI takes charge. Is there a way i can stay in control of my grouped ai. ive looked all over for something, and have found nothing other than it can be done. I should also tell you ive never edited any files in my mission directory.
    I'm running cba mod cups mods terrain/vehicles etc. exile, eden enhanced and mcc.

    Ok so I'm trying a very similar mission and I found a script that allows me to respawn in with the equipment I died with however how do I spawn in with a custom loadout and how do I allow multiple loudouts in the respawn screen?

    Tutorial on how to make locked loadouts, like medic, sniper, etc that people have to pick? Ie, they can't pick what they want, they have to take a specific class.

    Hey mate, i followed this to make a mission however i have a slight issue, i set the respawn exactly like you did however when my friends die they respawn on the spot however when i respawn i respawn at the marker, can someone help please?

    I HAD THIS WORKING ONCE AND NOW I CANT FIGURE IT OUT.

    When I test the scenario I don't have any control of the AI
    I can't command them and they are not correctly marked. I'm so confused to what I'm doing wrong.

    Hey man! great video! however i ran into a little problem! at 16:10 when you are picking the zues guy to add my game does not have that much options? i have no "men" tabs under nato Even when i made sure i was on F1 and objects. The only way i can add guys is from squads from the F2 tab. please help! any help would be much appreciated :)

      You should be under Objects tab, blufor and it should be giving you the option if not, you may need to doublecheck and make sure you're not running a corrupted version of the game
