    I give the medal to Bobby Kimball because on "I'll Supply the love " the ORIGINAL key that is , he established his style plus David Paich once said that song was Bobby's signature song and Williams never sang "I'll Supply the love " in Bobby's original key . And honestly Pamela sounds too LOW for Bobby's natural high range and Pamela is right for Joseph's vocal/range. So everyone wins.

    • @Oxpost
      @Oxpost ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The clip for I'll Supply the Love is heavily autotuned on Bobbys clip.

    • @waltersimmons946
      @waltersimmons946 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Oxpost Theres No "autotune" on Bobby at the AGORA where Toto played in 1979." I'll Supply the love " was in the original key and autotune DID NOT exist back then. Bobby still owns that song vocally , in fact they lowered the key of that for Bobby on that song BEFORE Williams got his second chance with the group. So your comment still takes nothing away from Bobby.

    • @waltersimmons946
      @waltersimmons946 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Oxpost No hold on, I was referring to times when Bobby was much younger(in TOTO) which actually was before autotune ever existed and he had that unmatched, range and power Joe Williams even said last year that he and Fergie (in the 80s) lost their voices on occasion because they couldn't match Kimballs power especially going way up high , Williams said " Bobby's voice was BIG part of Totos sound. Williams unlike Paich or Lukather gave Bobby that full credit in 2021. Actually Bobby sang higher when he was in his pre-Toto group S.S Fools back in 1976 (They were on Columbia records before Toto )he also played keyboards while he sang . S.S Fools was formerly aka. 3 DOG NIGHT and the recordings and album are on TH-cam. They did appear on American Bandstand too. Not intentionally being descriptive here but as a black fan of Kimball, If I didn't know who sang on S.S Fools I would've assumed it was a black woman. Notice later TOTO used black women to sing Kimballs songs. Amazing and rare that's Bobby Kimball. Joe Williams is great also 👌 even on his solo stuff.

      I've heard the SS Fools album and Bobby sounded so black for a white guy. I've heard the original demo of You Are The Flower which was a bit faster than the studio version. He sounded like Stevie Wonder at times and a woman. He had such a high range and excellent control of it.

    "Hold the line" - both sing the song fantastically, but I'd choose *Bobby Kimball* because his voice reminds me of the original version
    "You supple the love" - it feels as if Joseph struggles to sing the song whereas Bobby sings it with ease, but the part of Bobby is autotuned, he couldn't sing this song on pitch in the 2003-2008 era, so *Joseph W illiams* wins in this case
    "You are the flower" - Bobby sings this song more emotionally while Joseph gives it a more chilling vibe, so in this case it's a *draw*
    "Rosanna" - in this case *Joseph Williams* definitely wins, he sings this chorus with remarkable ease, especially during the 2018 version , sound fantastic
    "Falling in between" - *Bobby Kimball* kills it, it a real rock song, you can feel Joseph's not comfortable singing this song
    "Pamela" - unfortunately Bobby Kimball couldn't sing this song with such power as Joseph, his voice was trembling, unstable and he struggled to go high on "heal this time", whereas this song shows off the best qualities of Joseph's voice - the feeling, the strength, the precision; the 2013 Poland version is better than the original, especially the last chorus; it's a pity Joseph doesn't go high on "heal this time", but still definitely *Joseph Williams*
    "Home of the brave" - as "White sister" is Joseph's best cover of Bobby, "Home of the brave" is Bobby's best cover of Joseph, so *Bobby Kimball*

    I think they’re pretty equal until Bobby started needing auto tune, from what I noticed and I’m not positive but it seemed around the early 2000’s. Bobby in the early days singing Waiting for your love was fantastic. He really had the power and the high range. But both of them in the past and now are great.

    It’s not fair to compare these two singers unless each clip is from their prime singing years. Most if these clips are Bobby as a younger singer and Joe’s are from later in his career. Bobby was amazing for certain songs but would have to give it to Joe for his ability to sing so many different styles. But, it’s a bit like picking between awesome and brilliant.

    • @waltersimmons946
      @waltersimmons946 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Bobby sang Pamela and Home of the brave because fans wanted to hear him on those songs. Plus Kimball liked Fergie Fredericksen and Joe Williams songs so he's actually showing his admiration of people that replaced him. I do think Pamela is too low for Bobby's voice. If you heard Kimballs talking voice and then Joe Williams talking voice, my point would make better sense.

      You could never discount Bobby .His first 4 albums and live shows with Toto are still the standards in their catalog. Joe Williams would've been too young to carry the band from 1977 to 1983 (age and vocal ability). Totos greatest years. You're talking Apples 🍎 and oranges 🍊 just to compare both fellas.

      He is very invested in his performance, I'm just inevitably drawn to his stage presence over Bobby, but obviously Bobby is the one on the record. Live music is always a different phenomenon, especially with a band that are such perfectionists in studio

    • @waltersimmons946
      @waltersimmons946 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Chris Ducat Joe looks bloated and looks like a lumberjack. He even sings most of the songs "live" in lower keys. Kimball has Dementia now and has been out of TOTO since 2008. Comparing the two of them now is completely ridiculous and pointless. David Paich told Jim Beaudin on "Rock History" the other day, that Toto has no plans of making any more albums . They really didn't want to make/record TOTO XIV. But had to just to get out of some lawsuit they were in. That was discussed in the inner sleeve of the TOTO XIV CD 💿.

    Bobby no doubt sounded better in his prime than Joseph… he had a powerhouse of a voice that helped Toto become so popular early on. But you see… Bobby was losing his vocal clarity over time. The fact he used Autotune in the years leading up to Toto’s first breakup is a tell tale sign.
    Joseph Williams in his first stint in Toto didn’t have that nice sound. Strained his voice and that’s one of the reasons why he left after a that short stint. However, Joe was able to save his voice over the years through getting vocal coaching and if anything, his voice aged well like fine wine that he can still sound like his younger self but much fuller.
    Each has their own merits and both have such a deep sense of respect and admiration for each other. I don’t think one’s better than the other.
