Best singer they've had. In my opinion, Joseph Williams is THE voice of Toto -Such a good vocal technique, and that crystal clear sound is just perfect :)
My favorite Toto singer. He did lose his voice due to drug abuse (just like a certain someone who was fired in 1982 😂). But, he gained it back later, unlike Bobby.
Steve is such a beautiful man then and now😍 I actually have a crush on the young Steve and I'm 21yrs old now.My boyfriend and I had an argument because im fan girling over young Steve.Oh God!!!Thank you for giving him to us Toto fans!❤️ His voice, his guitar skills, all!!!
Bobby Kimball was a good singer, and still is. However, Joseph Williams is what I would consider THE singer of Toto. He has been consistently solid for many, many years. Luke has a phenomenal voice as well. I love how they swap leads on the vocals as they move through a set list. What an immensely talented band.
Bobby kimball is the gold standard of TOTOs singers and TOTO has six Grammys during Kimballs first tenure to solidify his stamp on the band. In case you didn't know Kimball has FRONT TEMPORAL DEMENTIA and most of his memory of the bandmates, music even his ability to play keyboards himself is almost completely wiped out from the disease. His daughter Allison confirmed this in 2018. He's hasn't performed for years.
It's funny 13 years ago I bought a CD of Isolation and I thought it was really good, but then some years later Joseph Williams to date is my favorite Toto singer. I don't think Isolation is bad I think for what it was (hard AOR/rock) it's a really great album and Fergie did a wonderful job, but Joseph came in and they were really truly back on top. Back in the early 80s you heard Toto everywhere all the time and if you don't appreciate Toto then what I say is you can't appreciate quality music. They are the best musicians band and are still together and that is very impressive for a band where everyone in that band is a star player. I really miss Jeff Porcaro and Mike Porcaro. Toto have rallied anyway and gone on, but we'll always feel the loss.
TOTO may not have liked Fergie Frederiksen, and Isolation may not have sold well, but I consider it one of their best albums. "Endless" in particular has an intriguing structure, all the melodic phrases are seamless and cyclical.
Yeah I enjoyed Fergie's contribution. I loved "Carmen" but Steve and Joseph will always be my favorite. I forget the first lead with the massive head voice. Loved him too
Fahrenheit is great. But, Isolation might be my favorite Toto album. Luke makes it look like 1 million records is nothing, Some band's today don't even get that much 😂
The joke is Isolation is a PHENOMENAL ALBUM. Stranger in town made the top 40, but the title track "Isolation" and "endless" are really good tunes. If you have never heard, check it out, you wont be disappointed
Its not talked about much but Bobby Kimballs voice is on 3 tracks on Isolation Im almost certain its him in the chorus of "Mr. Friendly" plus "Holyanna", and if you listen carefully it's his voice carrying the Chorus on "Stranger in town" . Kimball said they left his voice on a 3rd of that album. The ad lib at the end is Fergie but that chorus is Kimball and on TH-cam theres a demo version with Kimball singing " LION". Also Fergie Fredericksens voice is in the chorus of some songs on Fahrenheit, which tracks I dont know, I didnt like that album very much. To be honest
Mark, it is such a great album. I loved it then I love it now. LION, Angel, Carmen, Mr Friendly...Isolation and Endless my 2 favorites. Such a great album
i think all the lead singers of toto were good. but its Joe that's propelled toto back to stardom back in 86 and when toto reformed in 2010. i always ask myself would bobby kimball still sound if he was still with toto? bobby is now solo and my ear drums cant take it. if you listen to Joseph Williams he will not disappoint you he never misses a beat.it was just the live shows in 1988 he started to sound bad. after getting his shit together Joe fully regained his voice. Fergie RIP had a distinct voice. even in his final years he still made music and made up with toto. did a few live shows in 2007 with them. now going to Jean Michel Byron great singer but did not fit the band. he wasn't what you call 'hard edge'. on the 1990 planet earth tour he made toto a laughing stock. just my view and it doesnt count.
Nao, nao é Joseph quem canta(pelo menos nao maiormente) em " I'll be over you". E o Steve Lukather.
First and poss only time id disagree with lukather.... isolation was poss one of there top albums, ok not as comercially pleasing or successful as toto 4, musically as good if not better tho... FF in my opinion was the best stage present showman with best live voice that definitely should of at the very least stayed on for another album! ...definitely more to it than they want to let on..... rip FF ... master of the high notes bro
Italo Nascimento Better known as Dennis Frederiksen. Before joining Toto he was a member of the band Trillion (with Pat Leonard, amongst others) which was infact the genesis of the 'pomp rock' genre. Died from cancer, the poor sod.
+DragonlordXV and he ruined them. They went from "New Orleans ladies" and "Nobody said it was easy" to a mainstream pop band with Fergie. End of LeRoux.
+Milko Vilja Fergie was never a great rock singer. He could hit the high notes but for a band like Toto the vocalist must do more than hit the high notes, he has to sing with some feel, some soul, and Fergie never did. Before Toto Fergie was in LeRoux, a Louisiana band that sounded a little like Little Feat, a little like Poco. CBS wanted LeRoux to add AOR punch and they brought in Fergie and it pretty much killed any momentum the band had built and they never recovered. I'm willing to bet the same happened with Toto. If you listen to Fergie's vocals it sounds a little like he has something in his throat. For a band that had recorded "Hold the line" and "Rosanna" this voice was such a mismatch and thankfully Joe Williams came on board who could hit the high notes and and play with some feeling and touch. That moved saved Toto because with Fergie or Jean Micheal they were doomed unless Luke or Paich takes over on vocals.
I disagree, because Fergie has proven to be a fantastic rock singer in and out of Toto. The man killed it in a live setting and had the skills to work a crowd as a proper frontman. Just look at the time frame when this album came out. AOR was huge and Fergie was a no-brainer for that type of sound. If any other band had recorded "Endless", it would have been a hit, no question. Still don't understand why CBS never pushed that as a single. The problem was literally what Lukather said, the die-hard Toto fans wanted Part 2 of their 4th album and then got smacked in the face by Isolation's heavy-hitting AOR sound.
It's funny. For a band that had a rotation of "lead singers," they already had great singers in Paich and Lukather. Just, I guess they felt that certain songs needed that high tenor. *shrugs*
If you have noticed Joseph was brought back in 2010 (If my memory serves me correctly) and he and Luke are planning a livestream on the 21rst of this month.

Well, I thought Isolation was a very well written album and much better than 4 which was their most successful via album sales...And I loved Bobby, Fergie and Joseph as they are all great with their own style...Jean Michael Vincent was an actor and his style was not compatible with TOTO'S in 1990...He he he...Not a good choice and why Steve assumed vocals exclusively till 1999
Only problem being that he couldn't sing in the studio! Read Luke's book and you'll get some insight. TOTO probably had the worst luck with leaders singers than any other band.
Mistake with Fergie? Is Steve on drugs?(Well yes he probably was at the time) But Isolation is a excellent album. Blows all their other ones away. It's upbeat. You don't fall asleep like to crap like 99 and Georgy Peorgy.
Joseph got kicked out of the band because of his cocaine usage, and during their tour of "The Seventh One", he lost his voice, and they had to fire him

My favorite lead singer of Toto is it's lead guitarist, Steve Lukather.
Steve Lukather is such a multi-talented musician...vocals, guitar and?
He's awesome.
Best singer is Luke.
When Bobby Kimball was on, he was awesome !
Steve has such a good/smooth voice......
Fahrenheit was such a great album.
Just as good as 4
Most people don’t know Joseph is the son of famed composer John Williams.
I do, and I respect that
I told my brother this like 5 seconds ago :-)
Great musicians all of them!
This blew my mind tonight 😂
Joseph Williams ain't no Bobby Kimball and never will be. 2001 is long gone.
@@m.hughes2521He's not Bobby Kimball but Joe fits the band very well, he sounds like toto !
Heard Joseph Williams perform with Toto here in New Zealand his voice still sounding good after all these years
Thanks for the upload. To me, Joseph Williams was/is the best lead singer. Great band. Lukeather is always very funny and down-to-earth.

Did you see him in the Tokyo concert footage 1980? Red pants. Be still my heart. @DaneCombs
Tried telling him tho.😭
I love joseph voice, amaZing groove🤘🏼🤘🏼
Damn! great stuff here man! thanks for posting. very rare of Toto. And Joe & Steve are always cool!

Young, 80's Steve Lukather. Doesn't get any better!
Agree. He's handsome in that time.
I do think his voice got better with age
English Countryside he is primarily a guitarist. One of the best in fact.
James Reeno Who btw. sang more songs in Toto than everyone else all in all. ;)
Unless it’s young, late 70s Steve Lukather. ;-)
For those of you who don't know Joseph Williams did the singing voice of Adult Simba in the 1994 Walt Disney Pictures masterpiece "The Lion King".
Douglas Roth I know and I had to prove to my family and friends about it as well.
Oh, good info!
Saw Toto here in L.A. last month...it struck me that somewhere in the middle of "Africa", Joey should break out a little riff on "Hakuna Matata"...
Has he ever sang any Simba song in a TOTO concert? I can't seem to find any footage of it. It would be cool if he did.

Weird how they think Isolation was a mistake. One of my personal favourites of theirs. Had to buy it twice. Ruined the tape playing it so much.

Luke is basing his crass comment purely on sales..... for fans of hard edged AOR ..its by far their best
That's too funny that they didn't highlight any music videos with Joseph Williams, only ones with Steve Lukather singing lead. LOL
Hard not to feature him or his singing. I think they’ve had the most top 40 his with him singing lead
Haha, great! With Swedish subtitles and all

WOW. I did not know that, and I hadn't encountered that information yet in my current deep-dive of all things Toto!
And was the singing voice of Simba in the original “Lion King” movie
For some reason I thought of john williams when I saw joseph williams' name. Didn't know they were son-dad!
Joseph sais that they came up with another singer behind his back according to a interview.
