I-635 TX is a partial beltway around the Dallas area of the DFW Metroplex and sure is in the Top 3 busiest highways of the DFW Metroplex in my opinion and I'm glad it achieved the new express toll lanes since the last decade.
I live near Dallas / Ft. Worth. 635 is designed as a LOOP around the city of Dallas. To call it an "interstate" is a misnomer. Although 635 does connect with IH-20 and IH-30.
Could be called ring 35 (in belgium orbital expressways/motorways have specific numbers, like the infamous R0 (ring brussels) and R1 (ring antwerpen)) or M35 (for metropolitan road).
That's a very Texas response lol. Three-digit interstates (such as I-635) are all over the country, be they loops, spurs, or bypasses. The numbering of it as an interstate is a way to keep its construction and repair costs covered at 90% federal and 10% local under the 1956 Federal Highway Act. This was created to have a national system for the creation of interstate and defense highways meant to move traffic quickly across the country in the event of a war, and these three-digit interstate highways were and are a crucial part of that.
Hopefully, the concrete pavement from TX-121 to PGBT will be FIXED in the coming years. You put a drink on the cup holder, it'll still splash. BUT.... the freeway is definitely AMAZING. The High Five Interchange is definitely one of the reasons why TXDOT is easily one of the best departments of transportation ever, IMO. Plus, they're working on expanding the LBJ project all the way to I-30.

i did way worse than that. Did you see that pass I did on the right on the ramp to I-635? I thought that third lane was an away lane, but that pass I made was definitely a jerk move.
I flew one way from Detroit to California, and then drove a rental car back to Detroit from there via Texas. I took just under two weeks to make the trip.
I have traveled to many cities through out the country, The D.F.W. Metroplex has the most impressive freeway system in the States.(in my opinion)

it wouldn't shock me to see it surfaced with asphalt to smooth it out in the coming years.
