  • A look at Bjarne Riis career - including highlights from his biggest moments. Hear him comment on his victories, his childhood and his preparations.
Follow his journey from a "no name" rider in the early 90s to his breakthrough in 1993 were he got his first TDF stage win and finished 5th in the GC.
Se him place on the podium in 95, were he almost beat Miguel Indurain in a time trial and his legendary win at the Tour de France in 1996. The first, and so far only danish rider to do so.

Tak for en fantastisk tur nedad memory lane. Fantastisk sammenklippet. Godt arbejde!

Isn't it enough with all the name calling? Here is a man who competed in an environment where doping was the norm and not the exception.
He never threatened anyone with lawyers like others. He didn't attack or hung others out in the press. Never accused anyone.
No matter what kind of doping that was involved it all comes down to one thing. Who can eat the pain and keep performing!
Make no mistake he was a champion and to me he will always stand out as an exceptional athlete that trained like no other.
Today we live in better more doping free world but please don't judge the past with the norms of today.
    Ride safe!

There is no doubt that Lance Armstrong was a person that had the capability to eat pain in order to perform and he was an exceptional racer by any standard.

The problem with doping is that it doesn't affect everybody the same amount. Due to their different biology, some get a lot more out of doping than others. There is a misconception that if a bunch of people take doping, their relative performance will stay the same after doping as it was before. But but in reality, it can completely flip who performs best even when both are doped equally.

When Rius won his TdF everyone doped. Ok, that was part of the culture that went back to the early 20th century.
But later on and for many years Riis was a team director. And he was extremely shady about doping in that capacity, this according to the Danish Anti-dopung Agency ( and others). According to the report, among other things, Riis asked Danish rider Bo Hamburger to acquire erythropoietin (EPO) for German team-mate Jorg Jaksche.
He is no different from Lance Armstrong. It is remarkable he has not been banned from the sport.

Scapegoated for the Euro doping 'Omerta' club. Brash, arrogant, rude, over-the-top menacing at times...but Lance beat the doping Euros at their own corrupt game - and their precious bicycle racing establishment couldn't stand him - or Americans in racing - for that.
Riis has offered to give his Jersey back. There's Marco "Mr. Naturally-High-Hematocrit' Pantani (at the epicenter of Euro EPO in Italy), Jan Ullrich has confessed his cheating, Contador was claiming "tainted meat" for a masking agent for doping.
Operacion Puerto? Squashed by partisan Euro National ADA's and futbol-obsessed Judges destroying the evidence, while the USADA serves up U.S. bicucyle racers on a silver platter!
Then, no notice of EPO smuggled in refrigerated panniers on fake press motorcycles? (Floyd Landis used to take photos of these, and get all worked up about it) - how about it, the truth of the matter?
Yet. ONLY Americans have had their Tour de France Wins "cancelled" - why is that??
I think we all of us bicycling road racing fans, know why. And now that ASO has assh*t American-hating bigot Prudhomme in there, expect the same chauvinist bullsh*t for the next oh, about 30+ years.
So, he and the ASO jerks have fended off the 'terrible' Americans. Don't look now, Christian (Prudhomme the turd), but there's a new wave of Africans coming. Wonder how you'll cheat them and manage to run them off?

Jan Ullrich would easily have won the Tour 96' if he could have go on his real speed without helping the old man Riis

That is something you really dont get, Jan was not at all as strong in the mountains compared to Riis.
In fact noone in the history has done as strong a climb as Riis did in 1996 on Heutacam. It is by watts the best climb ever done on a HC climb. Jan at no time in his career came close, nor did anyone else not even Pantani and his records on Alp Dhuez. Bjarnes climb on Heutacam is calculated to 6,97 watts pr kg almost 7 for a whopping 35-36 minutes and stands as the unbeatable record above all others. Just forget it with Jan his career all time best was alp dhuez 97 around 6,5 - 6,6 watts pr kg. That is 5 % slower than Bjarne, 5% in the top is a huge margin. Bjarne 1997 was a shadow of himself, from his former 3 years.
And for several Years Riis could have placed better in the Tour he was the one that had to help a clearly worse captain in 93 94 and 95.
As visible in this Jan was free to do whatever he liked, he wasnt really pulling much for Bjarne, only thing that would have been a nono was to counter attack his own captain to pull the others back to him. Yet still he could not follow Virenque or leblanc on Heutacam he could have just followed nothing stopped him. One thing is for sure Jan did a hell of a TT in the end of the tour, however Bjarne I believe didnt give it all - he knew he had won.

Riis was awsome even if he doped as he made one of the most obvious disgusting dirty dopers still considered clean, to rage quit the sport: Miguel DRUGdurain!

Riis is awesome, but Lance is 'the Devil"...?!
Looks like a whole bunch of Euro-first, American-hating bigots have a massive amount of raging hypocrisy, to explain!
