  • Hello this is an extension video of the first video I made showing the basic steps on re-waxing your stained concrete floors (the link to the first one is posted in the video). This video gives a little more details and tips when you are re-waxing your floors.

    Thank you for the information. I've been wanting to do this to my basement floor, and I had no idea it would be this hassle free.

    Hi, my condo’s concrete floor was ground with an industrial polished and then “polished” to a full shine, but I want it shinier! When I look up close to the floor I notice that the concrete is covered in micro scratches left from the polishing process (there shiny spots in between the scratches). I think this is what is making the floor appear dull. Will this technique fill the scratches and even out the floor surface making it shine? Or do I need to bring in a burnisher?

      No you need a light polishing pad or what we call 3 stage 800 1600 2000 wet high speed buffing pad

    Hello, I have a basement that we are renovating to make a fully livable area. Since it has a concrete floor I'm thinking the cheapest way to go is acid staining it. So I plan on cleaning it with hydrochloric acid and water. After applying stain I will seal it. (Any recommendations on brand)? Then I'll wax it. However my main question is: For maintaining this floor will I have to strip it and re-seal it and re-wax it? Or just keep adding new wax to the floor?

      bamaalltheway1984 hello, I wouldn’t use hydrochloric acid to clean the concrete if you are acid staining, it will dilute the color a lot possibly eliminating any color. The manufacture of the stain will typically have a cleaner that is recommended. Once you seal the floor you can add wax to help protect the sealer. The wax I used is more of a floor finish that can be re-applied with out stripping. The old school bees wax type products are the ones that would need to be stripped.

      MVLConcrete thanks. What would recommend cleaning the floor with prior to staining?

      bamaalltheway1984 Depends on what your trying to remove. We would usually use a floor buffer with a scrubbing pad and a ph neutral detergent or dawn soap.

    what about a thick last coat, and how many coats do you usually do? recoat meaning you don't strip the floor first?

    • @MVLConcrete
      @MVLConcrete  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Custodial Custodian how many coats depends on if it is the first time over a sealed floor, in this case at least three. If we are just cleaning and re waxing sometime just one. If we are stripping and re waxing at least three. This is assuming the concrete is sealed well.

      Custodial Custodian I'm always worried about applying to thick, I had one of are guys wax the floor when it was humid out and he put to much on never cured clear. We had to strip and re wax

    If my floor have some minor scratches and some sections are still shiny do I need to buff the floor first before adding the floor wax.

      He probably honed it, once you sand down a surface it becomes less poures and needs very little sealer

      Wil perez use safe etch cleaner from HD clean and etch the concrete well then apply sealer. You want to make sure you open the concrete up for a good bond.

      If you're going to stain the concrete, then you should not apply an etching solution first. This will reduce the reaction you would otherwise have with the acid -- if you plan to acid stain. Otherwise, go ahead and do it. HD sells a product made by Rust Oleum in the paint section. It's an etching acid in a white jug.

      Chris Nelson yes that's correct but we are talking about applying sealers not acid stains.

      Luis Chavez I come up with a price after adding up all my cost for supplies, my time, and then add profit. You can then divided that number by the total square footage to get a sq ft price.

    Hello! We have stained concrete floors that are a little over a year old. I'm pretty sure they were never polished because they aren't shiny and when water spills on the floor, it absorbs instead of beading. Three questions-
    1. There are a few spots where grease has splashed by my stove. Can I get these out? I've tried everything I can think of.
    2. Will waxing as shown in your video help protect from splashes and spills of this nature?
    3. Since it's never been polished, how many coats of waxing would you recommend?
    Thank you for your time!

    • @MVLConcrete
      @MVLConcrete  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Corey Owens hello, grease is very hard to get out of concrete that has not been sealed yet. You can try using a poultice powder that will absorb the grease as the powder dries. After the surface has been cleaned the concrete should first be sealed with a water based or solvent based sealer depending on ventilation. The wax does not seal the floor only adds shine and protects the sealer. Once the floor has been sealed at least two coat of wax sometime for more shine we will add two additional coats.
      Hope this helps,
      Michael

    I believe the term "wax" is misleading. This chemical could be categorized as liquid plastic. It is called polymer or acrylic....... It is not the same as what we know as traditional wax.
