Indeed. It is using only air for many years. I can attest to this as I've owned a, light green, Hohner soprano since about 1992 (it's an 31 years old musical instrument)
@@dylanjordan4747I'm pretty sure they were confirming that, because Melodicas don't use air unless a key is being pressed. If you blow into one without pressing a key the air won't pass through unless you force it VERY hard.
But regardless does not really matter, Melodica is breath controlled, you don't control when you play by pressing the keys repeatedly, it's not a piano, the keys only control what notes you are playing , your breath controls when you are actually playing them. TLDR; you play it more like saxophone that is keyboard shaped, than a piano that you blow into. Edit: Unless you are specifically hooking it up to a hair dryer, then you play it like a piano.
The day I first got my cheap-ass melodica, from when I opened the package, touched it, held it, smelled its plastic and factory smell, that was the best day of my life
It sounds a lot like those old bellows organs from our grandparents day. The one with a bunch of white buttons on the left side labelled "major" and "minor".
kinda reminds me of 10 years old me pulling a plastic santa-boot over the light bulp of my desk lamp to get a red light... needless to say that didn´t go too well :)
The melodica is such an under-appreciated instrument, we always see this as that one instrument we get to learn at primary schools and play the same damn songs over and over again, and us young generations poke fun at it by playing meme songs. But this instrument at the hands of a professional can turn this 'kid's music learning machine' into a serenading accordion-like sound by combining it with sforzando technique and vibrato by slowly changing the flow of the air from your lungs. Plus, I still could not believe this instrument was used in a Jazz band and the comments section being ran by 7th graders, it really is a versatile instrument and a geniuinely amazing contraption in portable reed organs.
I certainly agree. At least in my case, if it hadn't been for Damon Albarn, I wouldn't have realized that I liked it.I don't know how it is in your country but at least in Mexico (where I'm from) they don't ask us for melodicas, but flutes. and to tell the truth, since I have an e to say that it is a beautiful instrument
@@cartondecawamas They use both recorders and melodicas in here, some predominantly Islamic schools also give out hadroh or Arabic percussion which consists of bass drum, darbuka, and other percussion instruments that I may give out the name but will need lots of explaining.
Melodica + hair dryer? That has to remind me of this: using a balloon with a chromatic harmonica to make it sound like a bagpipe, where the player inserts the balloon into the first hole of his instrument for it to serve as a drone.
I am excited when we are watching some on stage performance of a Melodica player who is first of all connecting the hair dryer and then performing while holding the hair dryer😂
Hi, I just want to ask if this specific melodica is good and would last long? I am asking because I played on my grandpa's melodica few years ago for like 10 minutes and I liked it, but his was a profesional one. Would you recommend this one to start with it?
I have a question, is this specific melodica good? I mean will it last long and is it like quality good? I'm just asking because I played few years ago for like 10 minutes on my grandpa's melodica that looked like some profesional one, and I want to get one, is this one good to basically start with? I have written another comment because it looked like this one didn't get posted lol
Its surprisingly low, the motor in a hair dryer on full power only draws about 46 watts, the rest of the 1850 watts comes from the heating coils. Its why when you turn one on, you notice the lights dim briefly from the sudden power draw, but when its turned on to cool there is no dimming.
An addendum, professional hair dryers like the ones found in barber shops have a 46 watt motor, the ones found in 1850w home hair dryers have ones that tap off the heating coil power supply and only consume 12 watts at most.
I'd like to see you attach a second melodica to the hair dryer by connecting two hoses in whatever way you can, so you can play them with both hands. Maybe you could find a hose that has a Y shaped end or you could make one somehow.

If the Melodica just uses air when you click a key, I’m impressed

Melodica is not a terrible instrument and you can also play it with blowing
You copied me!

Well yeah. That’s the only way to get the melodica to make noise if you don’t use a convoluted contraption like this fella did
Yeah, by blowing, how else am I supposed to play it then? Strumming it? Putting the hose on my nerves?
What time of blowing😏
I have a melodica. My nickname for her is simply "Keyboard to Kill Asthmatics"

😂😂 the only solution for long term playing
I left my hair dryer in its warm mode rather than cool and the mouthpiece melted

needless to say that didn´t go too well :)
we use melodica to learn simple songs in school instead of using keyboard / piano
infinitely better than recorder for starting out

A diatonic one would work better as a bagpipe is also diatonic.
