    Thank you for inspiring me to build my own! I went a brushless and you are right, way too much power. But with 2ws on gravel.... greatest dirt drifting ever!! I'm gonna get lipo soon. Thank you again mate!!!!

    Another good video, I always like all the information I get. Most know that Tamiya need to include ball bearings in their kits & I wish they would fit b/bearings to their bz,tz & rz motors, I did it to my rz motor, no need to oil motor bushes anymore & its ment to give you an extra 10% more RPM & torque & hold to rotor true less drag especially on the pinion side.Keep making videos Matteo. Cheers

      Thanks for your good comment! I think Tamiya try to keep the price low, to give more people a chance to start with. After a while, it is also nice to install some upgrades...

    Great video Matteo! What a unique chassis, I would never have imagined it being constructed that way, very cool!
    Keep up the amazing work!

    You've got that right only Tamiya comes up with all the good stuff and all the kits work as well if not better then described

    I was planning on getting one of these. I love tamiya kits and was gonna put an upgrade crawler motor, good servo, crawler/trail tires, possibly better shocks and cut off the back and build a flatbed. I know this really isn’t for crawling but as a trail truck it would probably be pretty fun 👽

    • @Matteomeier
      @Matteomeier  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you know, it exist a crawler version of this from Tamiya: th-cam.com/video/_GQEioNBuhc/w-d-xo.html

    Matteo again well done! I loved the look at the inside of this beast. I LOVE the engineering that went into getting that 6 wheel drive performance from one motor. The design is incredible compact and elegant. Never thought about getting a Konghead before but now I am seriously considering it. Watching your videos it going to make be go broke. Keep up the great work!

    This would be great car for winter use. Extra pair of tires prevent truck stucking in soft snow.
    Stock Lunch Box tire is poor on ice and hard snow, rubber is too hard. Tamiya Dump truck tires work much much better because soft rubber and studs.

      Matteo's RC Movies I have no idea so was looking for your opinion :-) Some people say it do - some people say it is unneccasary. Some times I do it - but more often than not I just do like you :-)

    • @Matteomeier
      @Matteomeier  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ok, I have the same opinion. Of course I've done it with nitro or gas engines, but I think with electric motors it's not necessary...

    • @jamesrowe6632
      @jamesrowe6632 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does make a difference in its longevity it helps to break in the brushes properly. I raced electric trucks and cars in the 80s and early 90s and always broke in my motors. Great vid by the way

    • @MrKdr500
      @MrKdr500 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Brushed motors need breaking in for the brushes (forward-reverse at low speed with zero load) brushless doesn't need breaking in. Race motors generally come with better matched clearances on the brushes so normally breaking in is not necessary.

      Brushless might be overkill for this truck as it'll be too fast-constantly flipping over and breaking things. Plus-it only has plastic gears in the gearbox.

      If your rc is not about to explode, you are doing it all wrong;) besides, they have less powerful brushless motors

    • @deusexaethera
      @deusexaethera 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If your RC is about to explode, you're bored with the hobby and you need to move on to tuning real cars. I have 42 RCs, and none of them can tear their drivetrain apart. I made sure of that, strengthening where possible and reducing power if necessary.

    • @Matteomeier
      @Matteomeier  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Danke Tino! Die Kunststoffzahnräder sind kein Problem. Die sind alle recht breit, ca 2cm, das macht sie sehr stabil. Was mich eher stört sind die Plastiklager, da hätte ich lieber Kugellager drin.

    Hello Matteo, just wondering if you have any heat problems with the BZ motor over heating? I have tried a couple of different 540 motors and they get 160F+ within 5-10mins of use. Any feedback would be appreciated. thx.👍

    • @Matteomeier
      @Matteomeier  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      These brushed motors get extremely hot. That is normal. And the more power they have, the hotter they get. The original Tamiya manual says to let them cool down after each battery pack.

    • @80Tamiya
      @80Tamiya ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Matteomeier Thanks for the reply Matteo, it confirms for me nothing is wrong, just a big 6x6 with a small motor. Yes, it seems brushed motors are a thing of the past now, but I choose to run them for nostalgia reasons 🤩. I now have a heatsink on the BZ motor, 5 mins run time and it is time to let it cool down and bring out my grasshopper and lunchbox 👊

  • @PeteWylieRC
    @PeteWylieRC 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Just a quick comment as there has been much chat about a brushless system being too much for the G6-01 Konghead. I've put a 3500kv Abisma set in mine and it's pretty quick but still only tops out at 20mph with a 2S lipo according to my GPS when I strapped it on. I don't think that there is too much to worry about in the gearbox so long as you use ball bearings. Obviously something will wear out eventually but my GF-01 has had a brushless set for ages and hasn't worn the gears out yet. I think that these cheap brushless systems aren't set to have a very agressive start which may cause breakages. I'd definitely recommend going brushless with this unless you are running it in a small area. Having said all that, don't blame me if you do and it breaks !! Check out my channel for a vid of mine running :-)

      Thanks! Glad you like my videos. I would rcommend something lightly tuned. But I don't know wheelies are possible with brushed motors...

    BZ motor with the standard ESC, Matteo? Does that work well? I recently bought the Konghead and I'm looking for a motorupgrade beforehand. Please your advice.

    • @Matteomeier
      @Matteomeier  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I can not recommend. The BZ motor needs a better esc with more Amps. The stock esc is on its limit and sometimes it stops because overheating.

    Man. Tamiya loves overly-complicated gearboxes, don't they?

    • @Matteomeier
      @Matteomeier  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, looks like... 😂 But most of them works fine...

    • @deusexaethera
      @deusexaethera 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, they do! It's just funny to see such complicated gearboxes when there are simpler methods.
      Kyosho loves chain drives. Their old buggies used chain drives, and even their 1/8 monster truck has a chain drive inside the transmission.

    • @Matteomeier
      @Matteomeier  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I remember, in the mid 80es I had a nitro buggy from Graupner/Kyosho with a chain drive. First time I drove it was in dusk, and I could see sparks spray from the chain!

      @offroadrc110 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shawn Elliott I was thinking the same thing! Never seen a gearbox like that before, I'm used to driveshafts. Looks like a great truck anyways!

      Yes, it looks a bit weird, as on so many Tamiya constructions.... But it works well.

  • @PeteWylieRC

    Thanks Matteo, very informative. When I get round to building mine I've got a 3500kv brushless set to go in it but if that proves to be too much then I've got a slightly worn out 2950kv that can go in. I have found in the past that the friction shocks are ok for a while but they soon get clogged up with dust and don't move so well. Are yours still ok ? Also, have you painted the silver bits like the grill on the outside ? I noticed that it had got a bit chipped. Does look good though :-)

    • @Matteomeier
      @Matteomeier  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Pete! Dampers works fine till yet, let's see what happens after more runs. And yes, painted the silver from the outside, was much easier, could use the protection film for masking. 😊👍

    Exquisite video content, thanks again Matteo. Also thank you for the links to the upgrades. And what a neat little stabilizer rod for the body. I need to install it in mine.
    Yes, I remember when seeing the Konghead first time; "I will never buy that freak!". But last month I bought it and built it, and it is a keeper. I will never regret it. I use the silver can motor with 18t pinion, and for my needs it has just the right power.

    Hi Matteo, do you use the original ESC?

    • @Matteomeier
      @Matteomeier  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, but with the BZ motor it should used a better one. Sometimes it stops because of overheating. It's not strong enough.

    4 wheel steering and that motor look like it makes a big difference. Good size comparison too, using that Lunchbox as reference gives me a very good idea of the actual size of the Konghead. Great job!!
