  • Welcome to this long term review of the Tamiya Konghead on the G6-01 chassis. I've owned my Konghead for almost 7 years and it's one of my go-to RC trucks when it comes to having fun. In this video I give a detailed overview of all the features of this Tamiya kit and discuss some of the plus points and hop-up and upgrade options available. I've also included a few running clips that hopefully illustrate how this monster truck tackles different terrains. Feel free to ask any questions down below in the comments section and I'll do my best to answer them.
    Take care and happy RCing!

Great review, Mark. And what a great truck! You nailed it, the Konghead is so much fun to blast around, ridiculously tough, and somehow the stock pogo stick shocks work well. No shortage of smiles and laughs when blasting this truck around. Great review! 👊🏼 😊

Too much power IMHO. Either 13.5 with 3S or 10.5 with 2S. I'm only even running a 17.5 with 2S and still think it's plenty fast enough for me.

It's a great concept, Mark, with these long term reviews! Most of these Tamiya cars are being researched all the time on TH-cam, so I am sure this video will be popular and help a lot of people. And of course it's a cool RC! Mine is unfortunately decommissioned at the moment, but I hope to have it back as an 8-wheeler at some point, I'm still struggling with the design inside my head, he he...
Lovely video, Mark, and of course with all the old footage with yours and Rob's, very entertaining!

Many thanks Mads, yeah I'm getting the hang of this concept and making these videos - it's thanks to you and our chats long ago about different video formats going forward! I have a few more in the pipeline too. The Blitzer Beetle review is still going well so I think you are right about folk doing research. I'm sure you'll make a good job of that 8x8!!! Glad you enjoyed the show my good friend, have a great Sunday over there! Cheers! 🍻😎👍

  • @PeteWylieRC
    @PeteWylieRC 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

Hiya mate. Oh yeah good idea for a video and you've done a nice job of finding those old clips and slotting them in. Yes I think that this is possibly the best of the modern Tamiyas because it's great in all the ways you describe and it's different to anything by other manufacturers. I do like the rear steering on mine but yes it does need careful use of steering input. One thing I wish I'd done on mine which I did on the Volvo Hauler is to use AW grease in the diffs which makes it better off road. With the bumper I'd recommend that mod to use a Lunchbox bumper which protects the front but doesn't catch on things like the stock one. Also I've put the wheelie bar from the Wild Willy on the back. Top work mate. Hope you have a smashing weekend lined up 😁👍👍

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

Hi there Pete and thanks for the kind words and insight. Oh yes it took bloody days to find all those old clips from my archive backup drive. A labour of love for sure! I forgot to say that a proper modern controller can be set to dial out massive oversteer as I'm still using old skool radios! 😅 And I also forgot about your LB bumper mod, I wish I'd chatted to you before making this video - I remember now you say it but I am 60 don't you know! 🤣 Thanks again mate and a happy weekend to you too! 🍻😎👍

    'You' don't need a bumper Mark, you're a professional basher!! 😂
Ooh the trusty old Donghead.... I loved revisiting all of those old videos with those clips mate, I remember all of them very well!
Kinda makes me question just why I still don't own one of these bad boys?!!
That thing has taken some serious abuse, and still keeps coming back for more.
A true example of what Tamiya do best-
Weird and wonderful quirky models that are a total blast to drive!
Now..... If they could just provide bearings instead of those pesky plastic bushes, I mean, don't they ever listen to Mark and Rob on TH-cam?! 😂
The friction shocks actually seem sufficient on this one though ..... those 6 bouncy tyres give plenty of damping, kinda like having a Nike air max on each axle!
I'm loving this themed series buddy, it's a joy to watch, and a very original concept..... I'm looking forward to seeing what the next model is!
Now then, slightly off topic.... but how are you feeling about Craigs 7.41 seconds on the salami challenge?
I do believe he is currently the fastest out of everyone so far, albeit with a far superior chassis!!
I really need to beat his time with the 959 this week, I called him out big time....... truth be known, I'm a little bit worried buddy!! 😬
Let's see how it goes on Wednesday, it's not guna be easy, but at the same time I don't think it's impossible...... providing nothing breaks! 😂
    👍 👍 👍

Glad you like the series concept, it's a nice series to do, not sure what's up next...
As for the salami, I gotta go out and crush Craig and his bloody XV01. Type-S I think to try next.

As you know, I've had problems getting and finishing any of my multiple projects....
But my G6-01 and TT-02B are my closest to being ready to run.
Your assessment is spot on! Mine hasn't run outside yet, but I can tell how much fun, and how much punishment it will take.
You've made me think.... I've got the dual steering, and I'm now concerned.
Like you, I knew this beast needed brushless power! But the only one I've got (besides the incredible 6-pole 1700kv I've got in my Wraith) is a Spektrum 10.5 sensored brushless motor/ESC, that I'm hoping won't be too much!!! 😮
I am deeply concerned about SHREDDING that aluminininium pinion gear! As usual, I can't afford steel gears yet.

    Nice long term review.
Do you think middle wheels could be used at 4 wheels streering instead of the two at the back ?
About the shocks, which size are they ? There is kit for GF01 which fits but there is four shocks...
    Thanks.

      Thanks Sam!
Yes I think anything is possible if you put your mind to it but middle wheel steering would take a lot of work to get the servo to move the wheels the correct amount. The shocks are the same as the GF01, I think they are 65mm?!!?!?!
      All the best! 😎👍

Almost pulled the trigger on this a few times. Not sold on the body though. Do you know of any aftermarket alternatives?

Hi Steve - yeah this is a great chassis and worth a punt! Hmm, not seen any aftermarket bodies for this but you can get the King Yellow (school bus body) and Volvo Hauler on the same chassis. Cheers! 😎👍
