      The one thing that stands out now as a 60 years old is the fact that I saw flamingo migration across table bay in cape town. The flamingo is extinct in cape town today. Due to the influx of the human population. Is this progress???
      Same probably in Indonesia where humans have displaced the orangutans in the ex jungles that they have replaced with palm oil plantations as far as the eye could see from a light aircraft

      Very, very few people can live up to this. The compulsory education process is extraordinarily powerful and it sorts out those who are not obedient to its dogmatic mandates. Go to any so-called “Alternative” high school and you will find the true geniuses, except they will not perceive themselves that way. They will, in fact, likely perceive themselves quite the opposite. The system has multiple layers built into it that work to break the critical thinkers, and if they cannot be fully broken, they are sorted out and disposed of.

      @tzar 1917. I’ll let the irony of you making a condescending comment to me and then two comments later accusing someone of becoming defeated by “retreating to nonsense” explain itself.
      Anyhow, what I said wasn’t a logical supposition, it was simply a statement. Along those lines, however, your obedience to the system is duly noted.

    It is really sad to see the difference in attitudes from children going into first grade (full of excitement, creativity, enthusiasm, etc. for learning) and young adults graduating high school (I hate my life and I am never going to open a book again). All those years of grinding and beating out all the creativity, curiosity, and enthusiasm for learning.

      Many of us lived it but many do nothing to help end it. I have been trying most of my life to get people to wake up to the lie of public schools. They were so conditioned they just perpetuate it as something good when it was not. I truly hated school from the age of 12. I understood the lie at that point.

      I think that children should be given a glimpse regarding the WHATS, and be taught the HOW to think, so that they can opt for a path of their choice, and excel at it. Both of the whats & hows come from Philosophy, but unfortunately that subject is the most 'underpaid/unwanted' major at undergrad level, so this implementation I have suggested should be at the secondary/high school levels.

      Like me, they may suffer, because not conforming is punished. I always thought my name had to be on a list somewhere as to “not to hire this person”. I was highly qualified and when someone did give me a chance I proved to be worthy of their risk. My point is, I was not college but educated and many better paying jobs are conditioned to hire someone with degrees and letters by their name. Which really only proves how well they conform to an authoritative figure

    I turned my back on public schools when my grandson in second grade was being ignored by an old bat who played favorites. His parents agreed and we moved him to a private school that was great until the headmaster retired and one from California took over. What a waste of money. They literly let bullies run the school. So we went to home schooling. Which allowed for him to developed his love for fixing things. Computers became is love and he can just about fix almost anything on it. Later he developed enjoyment in building things and fixing broken things and making them better. After he graduated he worked with his grandfather building 5 speed transmissions for mo par cars. Which he still does today. Eventually in his spare time he rebuilds Nissan cars. I have enjoyed watching him develop into a well rounded man. I am so glad his parents moved him to home schooling, it saved their child from the brain numbing public schools. As far as I am concerned his parents are ROCK STARS!

    • @thewrathematician1911
      @thewrathematician1911 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "taught to ask questions"
      That's basically an oxymoron. If you're teaching someone to ask questions and they do, then they're already obeying you. Or at the very least they're obeying their own impulses and will likely become rebellious, distrustful and even nihilistic. It will breakdown society as we're seeing right now.

    • @thewrathematician1911
      @thewrathematician1911 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @Adi Krieg Right. If Carlin had been truly 'free thinking' he never would have been allowed on a stage. He'd have become a pariah and been censored and ostracized by the media and authorities. Not that being an outcast automatically makes you an independent thinker, but independence necessarily involves a degree of defiance and thus reciprocal rejection by those with vested interests in the status quo and your compliance with established norms.
      Carlin had some good insights about the absurdities of modern western culture. But his critiques don't equate to an absolute invalidation of the many aspects of our culture. Fact is we still live more comfortably than any other people in history. That's got to count for something.
      Plus socialism is even more of a cultural poison than capitalism in nearly every widespread application that's been recorded.

As I grew older I away listen to eccentrics and old scholars . They always encourage me to think for myself . I am 63 years old now and have been a free thinker for most of that time . I have never stop learning and will never stop . To much to learn , so little time to do so in this lifetime . Here's to the next life , to start were I left off . Growing up, I was a quite kid who kept to himself and loved to write, draw and found I was really good at playing music. No one ever taught me that I could continue doing these things at a university or that I could possibly make a living doing it. Instead, I was taught to get a job, maybe with the local Hallmark factory, keep drawing, and maybe someone would notice me. It was years later that I realized what some of my options were but I had put up my pen and paper and chased after a good paying job.
    Now, many more years later, I refuse to allow my children to travel a similar path. We are "unschoolers" for the most part and even at a young age, our kids are showing signs of critical thinking beyond their peers. My oldest taught himself to read and his sister is beginning to do the same. We act as facilitators to their curiosity and help guide them (as any parent should) down an educational path that satisfies this and occasionally try to spark new inspirations within them.
    It is hard and very time consuming but I can't see letting the public school system oversee this in a manner that is healthy and right.

Everyone else I went to school with is doing better than me when it comes to making something of themselves. I did reveal through middle school that I didn’t want a future because I was so stressed and began hitting on girls. I contemplated suicide many times throughout high school too. I dropped out of school almost 25 years ago and it was a great descision in retrospect. It made life harder for a while but by the time the rest of my cohort finished their educations I was waaay ahead of them in both work and life experience. My complete lack of formal education did not really make much of a difference relative to my success. The hustle I went through to survive without credentials helped me develop skills quickly and at no great financial cost, meaning every dollar I earned was shared only with the government and not some parasitic bank holding my loan. I always saw life as one long apprenticeship. I was hired many times over the years based on charisma and work ethic alone and am convinced that with luck added in as a third leg, that's pretty much all one needs to succeed in this world. And think of all the nonsense I don't have to unlearn now as I was never formally indoctrinated. Be the person people come to for new ideas when they find themselves in a crisis of imagination and you will always have work. Keep your mind flexible and open at all times and try as many things as possible. That's an education if you ask me.

Those two were Martin Luther and John Taylor Gatto whose ideas would match my own.

    Finally getting my education at nearly 40 I felt an odd intimacy with this one. I, as crazy as it sounds, but nothing could be more true, was so emotionally and psychologically neglected growing up that school was like a get-away for me. I had free time with other kids to play, teachers who showed me affection to some degree and the lessons were very interesting from time to time. I was good at learning and showing off what I could retain. The teachers, not the standards they were forced into funneling us curriculum through were really what made it a sanctuary for me growing up. I had a great springboard to continue from throughout life. This last year full bloom into the exact definition Gatto described, and for that, I am grateful.

    I have learned more information on my own, than in any school/uni, I have been saying this for a while, instead of finding the individuals strengths, and providing them with the most, they cut you down and force you to be as dumb as the rest. Makes sense why questioning authority and being creative are so shunned, yet ignorance is prasied and even rewarded.
    As long as people like us walk the earth, the ones in charge are grabbing at straws to figure out what to do. We are coming for you! And our intelligence is far beyond your capacity, we have ideas and creations, you have nightmares about. We don't conform and we don't give up. Once this wall of indoctrination is broken, they will scatter like the roaches they are. To question isn't to defy, it's to gain a broader understanding of our reality, all while they try to push the narrative "greater good"
    While we burn them alive, we will be singing songs of defiance.

      People are so afraid of individualism because it breeds "umepathic, selfish people". The school system wants us to all think the same and that having different ideas is wrong and that you need to challenge those who have different ideas from yours, rather than accept and learn from it. Can't tell you how many times I got into fights with people who believe they are so smart because the school system has lead them to the this dillusion that because they are the smartest kid in class, they will go on to be "successful" and do great things. Look at where they are now! Minimum wage jobs. Married at 21, with 2 children under the age of 5. Thinking they are happy when in reality, they're probably dead inside (but we're all dead inside). Then there's me, ADHD, and told I'm dumb because of my ADHD since kindergarten. Went through school thinking I was dumb, but it wasn't til I was an adult that I found out that I was actually smart. Sad. It took doing research and attending college to force me to realize that I'm smart. I still believe I'm dumb becuase the public school system has made me BELIEVE that I'm dumb. The public school system breed dumb sheeple, but also ruins the self-esteem of bright students, leading these bright young minds to believe they're stupid or dumb.

      That’s the case because improving the mental health of their students isn’t seen as valuable and therefore investing money in more visually appealing architectural designs is no longer a worthy investment because the improved mental health has no perceived value, and therefore from the perspective of public educators it’s an investment that results in a net loss in value.

And the scales fell from his eyes. Yes, it's only brute force, in other words, sheer bullying and oppression. The pupils who thrive in school are the ones who submit to this.

      school is not about indoctrination, it lays out knowledge which can be helpful for your future. All this talk about being indoctrinated is bs. You learn things that make you more knowledgeable and perhaps more intelligent. You yourself can choose what to believe in and what interests you in order to become a part of society - the best scenario would be if you find a job that suits your tastes/talents/skills. School has become so much better and student-oriented in the last decades. I don't see any indoctrination there.

    yeah, school's good for teaching kids basic stuff, like how to read, do arithmetic, geography. I'd argue that learning when to shut up and listen is not a bad thing either. Recognizing there's authority, that is to be respected, but definitely not feared. This is where it usually fails. Another thing where it fails is in teaching stuff like history and social science, the stuff that are open to interpretation, cause that's when pushing one version of the story that fits the state's ideas happens.
    compared to the outcome (no real skills) we do waste so much time in school.

      Not knowing Anything of this subject except for what I've gathered here, it seems to me that certain agendas have been at work a Long Time but of which two men's ideas I've found to be most appealing and leaning toward a honest and actual 'learning' of what it seems would produce a more beneficial and productive experience for the students of their generations to have been fortunate enough to have experienced, unless I've missed something about them not mentioned in the time allotted for this Excellent short video. Those two were Martin Luther and John Taylor Gatto whose ideas would match my own.
      But then there was the "Frankfurt School" (Not mentioned here) that emerged in America after transporting (escaped really) their Demonic selves here from Germany after having fled that Nation (Unfortunately for America and the World itself) in the Early 1930's. Their Agenda was Destruction and the opposite of the two I previously mentioned, and was certainly and Definitely Evil. Here is a post I like to send out when the opportunity presents itself so others may have a idea as to what it, the Frankfurt School, was and it's 'Founders" truly intended and it is a Great, short work of just under 29 minutes. And the teacher was saying that the Greeks independence is full of lies and is nothing how it happened and kids should learn history as it is. And the minister turned to him and said, “ careful of your words or you will be considered as a traitor, schools should teach kids what the government wants not as it is and who does the opposite will be a traitor to the nation. Everyone seems to be asking of schools to teach innovation, social skills and similar abstract, high minded, and vaguely defined goals.
    However, think about the fact that everyone in our society know how to read, write, count money, etc. This was not the case for most of the human history. Maybe schools should focus on some bare minimum competence in individuals, and leave creativity and curiosity to individuals themselves.

    • @Macheako
      @Macheako 7 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      Mirza Borogovac great point. There's also a huge lack of well defined methods for cultivating something as complex as creativity or inspiration. It's a genuine thought, but is it even possible? I wasn't taught to be inspired, I simply was, so it's like, where do you go from there to teaching a million kids something we don't even understand ourselves lol

    • @M64936
      @M64936 7 ปีที่แล้ว +68

      Children are naturally creative and inspired. I think it's quite apparent that the rigidity and systematization of compulsory schooling inhibits the creativity of children. You don't need to "teach" people to be inspired, you need to give them enough freedom (with some guidance) to follow their own inspiration.

    • @M64936
      @M64936 7 ปีที่แล้ว +42

      "However, think about the fact that everyone in our society know how to read, write, count money, etc. This was not the case for most of the human history."
      Actually in early American literacy rates were quite high, and there was no compulsory schooling.
      "Maybe schools should focus on some bare minimum competence in individuals, and leave creativity and curiosity to individuals themselves.
      And yes, schools sure do focus on minimum competence. They take you for your 15 or so most formative years, stick you in a class room for 8 hours of the day for most of the year, and only teach you "minimal competence". That's factory schooling for you.

    • @Macheako
      @Macheako 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      towardsthesun If you're right, then you need to explain to me how some kids, I would include myself, can go through K-12 Public Education and STILL maintain their creative drive? Also, I wouldn't call children "creative" or "inspired" as their natural born state of being, curious, absolutely, but those attributes you stated are more goal oriented and very few children I know come into this world with a goal. Rather by being curious they able to find a worthy goal and THEN proceed to be inspired by it, at least that's how I figure.

    • @M64936
      @M64936 7 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      +Matthew Morton I think there's a tendency to inhibit creativity and inspiration in public schooling, but obviously some people retain it in spite of schooling. And yes, maybe calling children naturally curious is a better way of putting it - but being curious almost invariably leads to creativity, if the individual sticks to a certain topic or goal for a given amount of time.

I grew up in China, where education is even more bs than the U.S. And I moved to US at 11th grade now I'm in a university. The education system did't made me dumb, simply cause I'm lucky enough to have mentors, and i just tried to play with the system rather than abandon it. I'd recommend to learn more outside the school when you are stacked in public schools, once you have a distinct sense of purpose , then make your own decision of whether public school suits you or not

    I barely passed school, math was particularly difficult, and thought I was just stupid for nearly thirty years. I took online math classes as an adult and learned so much. It made it plain to me that it wasn't me that failed. It was the school system. And apparently it fails a large portion of society on a regular basis.
    I now find myself with a voracious appetite to learn new things all the time in ways that exclude a formal schooling situation. I remind my kids regularly that if they're putting in the effort but are still struggling with school it's not a reflection on them but on the school system.
