Just looking at it reminds me of a drink I had in Mexico, that was simply crene de cassis topped with Midori ETA: I learned something about the density/layering here 🙂
It's about 9° here right now. I decided to bring a little Jamaican heat inside. This is a delicious drink. I tri-color rimmed the glass with gold, green and pink sugar. I didn't have purple sugar on hand. It looked great but definitely had to as Mr. Marley sang, 🎶stir it up🎶 to get the great taste. Thanks for another tasty drink!
Really gorgeous colors Dave and love that you dipped only half the glass. I had this lime salt on a "Sunshine Margarita" once at Disney and THAT I wouldn't mind rimming the whole glass, but most of the time, just plain salt is just too much. Cheers!!!!
Happy New Year, and here's to a much betterer 2022 🍻🥃 Oh with cocktails like this showing up on my feed, I'm gonna have lots for this up and coming summer 😁
Gorgeous! I adore layered drinks! I don't mind rum, but I actually prefer a drink like this, starting with tequila as its base spirit. Beautifully done David!
Oh this is a great choice, David. I like the tequila instead of rum in tropical, and the use of sugar instead of with tequila.. break those norms! Beautiful work on the layering, and the editing too. Curious about how you drank it please - did you drink layer by layer and endure the strong grenadine shot at bottom? Or mix it all together? Does the grenadine flavour work well in it when mixed? Thanks! :)
I did try it both ways. So if you do it layer by layer to the get the sweet stuff at the end. But I tried mixing it as well and it was a sweeter drink in total. Have fun with it and try it different ways and tell me which one you like best.
Isn't Blue Curacao also an orange liqueur? Why use Cointreau + Blue Curacao? Wouldn't it be nice with a full ounce of Blue Curacao instead or is it a density thing?
Hi David, t his looks good. I made your Bikini Martini for my younger daughter a few weeks ago (age 31!) and w I’ll make this for her next time she is here. Question though. I spaced out my first bottle of Grenadine with basic Triple Sec. I also have a new bottle of Grenadine. Which should I use for this drink? Nick from York
If you are looking to get the layering right, I would use the new Grenadine. The Triple Sec will have thinned out the Grenadine enough that it probably will not sink to the bottom of the glass. But you can try both and see which one she likes better.
It looks nice but is far too sweet for my taste. I will try to either make it with more lime or maybe with an overproof rum to give it more of a bite; definitely will reduce the grenadine to 5ml or so. Nonetheless, thank you for introducing this cocktail to us David!
@@boozeontherocks 0K David, so I finally got ahold of some 151 rum. I decreased the portions slightly cause my martini glass was filled to the brim the 1st time around. Here are the specs I suggest: 30ml tequila, 20ml lime juice, 10ml blue curacao, 10ml cointreau, 40ml pineapple juice and 30ml 151 rum. I am torn about adding a dash (less than 5ml) of grenadine- it looks nice but unnecessarily sweetens the drink, in my opinion. Plus it looks better when it's blue :) Do tell if you like my specs and have a great day :)

why do you use shitty roses grenadine? why dont you make your own? here is recipe for a proper grenadine; a liter of pomegranite juice ,one half cup of dried hibiscus and 1 cup of sugar .
I've made this cocktail for guests and tried it personally it is a great tasting cocktail. Make more layered cocktails please on your channel.

I do pref a half rim for that reason. Because sometimes you don't want the salt.
It was sugar.

Nice layers! I wonder if a smokier mezcal instead of tequila would help balance the sweetness.
That is a very interesting idea. I will have to try that.
I didn't know you could layer a drink that well using a bar spoon. It looks awesome! Did you stir it before drinking it?
I tried one stirred and not stirred. its better stirred.
Can you make a drink with limon rum chata?
Lets see what I can do.
Pretty looking drink! that last sip is going to be pure sugar! haha
Oh yes!, it is a bit sweet.
Isn't Blue Curacao also an orange liqueur? Why use Cointreau + Blue Curacao? Wouldn't it be nice with a full ounce of Blue Curacao instead or is it a density thing?
You are correct You are correct, However because of the density you need to thin in out.
@@boozeontherocks thought so.... Thanx buddy

Much like a Tequila Sunrise, kinda a ladies drink. 😉
Possibly.
Can you make one with whiskey?
A Jamaican X or a layered drink?
@@boozeontherocks both would be fine lol

Definitely give it a shot.
Ya alittle on the sweet side. Might leave out the cointreau
You could definitely do that.

lol.... That you are..
hahahaha.. YES! th-cam.com/video/s7A5xLk3hIs/w-d-xo.html
You really need to use fresh pineapple juice frl
Sometimes you use what you can get,
I think the drink would be better with some Wray & Nephew Overproof Rum instead of tequila.
That would definitely be worth trying.
