Just like he SAID he founded Tesla, just like he SAID the Model 3 would have full L5 autonomy right out of the gate, just like he SAID his semis would have 1 million mile reliability (thry haven't), just like he SAID he knows more about manufacturing than anyone alive...
Just because Musk SAYS something, doesn't mean it's so. And there was plenty of evidence at the time that he did NOT, in fact have anywhere NEAR enough to buy out Tesla for anything above $150 per share, much less $420.

There have always been people hired for the wrong reasons, even at her level. Intentional efforts have been made to hire for reasons other than competence starting about 3 decades ago. The result has been significantly more incompetence at all levels. Also, engineering supervisors, programming team managers and IT managers may count as middle management, but their experience and tech knowledge is crucial to making progress that keeps a company competitive. Here's what is equally important for Barra, her executive team, and her middle management: You can't be a good leader if you don't have good followers.

Pay me the obscene salary of $30 million dollars a year even with declining vehicle sales every year since 2016, plants closings, layoffs, a series of fines and lawsuits, invested money in Nikola Motors, discontinued models like the Chevy Bolt and have not produced a minimum number of EVs, continuing problems with batteries after numerous recalls on the Chevy Bolt. Chevy Bolt production will ended them restarted GM would have 18 different EV models but currently only have 4 in production, stock price continues to decline, borrowed more money from the government, have not paid off previous loan from the government, what do you think I would say?!!! Things are getting better?! LOL! Just keep paying me the obscene salary of $30 million a year! The new models are coming! My name is Mary BS Barra! I’m the CEO of GM, suckers!

At the rate they are going, the best GM can hope for is to emerge as a much smaller company that markets cars made by others (mostly Chinese), or maybe as a JV partner. Hopefully the US will ban Chinese EV imports, which unfortunately for GM, will result in its bankruptcy.

GM did not understand the rate of improvement in battery technology. At the pre-electric pace of innovation things would have worked, but they are now welded to a battery chemistry that was out of date before the factories to build the cells were even completed, let alone making them at scale.
Is this Mary Barra’s fault? When you make the kind of money she is making, everything is your fault if it goes wrong.
It won’t matter, unfortunately, until the GM board looses confidence in her…which is tied not to the future viability of the company, but to the stock price.

I own two Chevy bolts. I absolutely love them and they are incredibly reliable and comfortable. Yes, they definitely rushed the Ultium platform release; however, them stopping sales to get it right was the right move. Look at Hyundai/Kia with their DC-DC converters, they still are resistant to admit and repair the vehicles properly. I do believe that once the kinks are worked out on the Ultium platform, that it will be amazing. The Bolt to this day, I believe, is the best EV GM has made. They definitely are saying to high of numbers for production goals, that would end up having a ton of inventory sitting for them. They need to prove themselves more widely to the EV community first, then the mainstream community, then once they prove that; ramp up production at that point. GM does have the ability to beat Tesla on build quality, reliability, part availability, and possibly price; but that does mean they have to make a concerted effort towards those ends.

I really wanted to believe Marry Barra's statement "They were all in on ev's" my 2019 Chevy Bolt ev premier has been my most favorite vehicle I've EVER owned... I Wanted to upgrade to a EUV but dealerships are inflating the prices. And now that it stopped making it in 2023, they have increase the list price 2 to 5000 dollars premium for last years, out dated model, with a non nacs plug vehicle... slow fast charging 55kw, fast charger. The people that bought last year, lost their shirt... No resale value...

They used it as a sham to convince the original inventors to sell the NiMH patents, then immediately turned around and sold them to Chevron/Texaco. What next? Chevron/Texaco immediately sued anyone working on a NiMH EV, with the most obvious example being Toyota, who started making the original RAV4 EV in 1997. The eventual settlement had Toyota pay $20M in damages, kill all EVs and limit any use of NiMH to something like 1 kWH for mild hybrids. This successfully delayed the EV by a decade. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patent_encumbrance_of_large_automotive_NiMH_batteries

    • @longmuskox4194

@@tomtxtx9617 I happen to live a few miles from the Lake Orion plant. The ever shrinking tiny 3 auto makers have been the livelihood of my whole extended family for generations. The $9k per Bolt was a figure from late 2017. 2017 was the year the Chevy Bolt peaked in production. This was also pre battery recall and pre redesign, then shutdown and retooling at the plant during the battery debacle. I happen to think the later losses per Bolt could have been double that $9k figure because of all the additional costs associated. I was shocked when they canceled it. What a waste of money. Mary has promised to bring the Bolt back, but it won't be at the Lake Orion plant because they removed everything for renovations and eventually to build the EV Silverado, so they say. But, GM managed to secure a deal to not pay taxes on the property for many years to come in exchange for not closing the plant completely. I guess the roads around the plant will remain a shithole without the tax revenue.
Of course, economy of scale matters, but GM was never trying to get there. Their objective was to not pay Tesla for carbon credits like the others were doing. It was always just a compliance car. Who knows when or where the next Bolt will be built. They don't have a factory for it and they don't have a new design to meet the Ultium platform. At this point I wouldn't take anything they say as truthful, it's all just fluff for their public image. Because, GM electrified the entire auto industry, and led, and it matters...blah, blah, blah.
