My $5000 BMW Will Have Over 600 HP With These! | N54 Turbo Upgrade

- In this video I discuss the new turbos I recently purchased to install on my 2008 BMW E90 335i with the N54 motor.
These are claimed to be the same or better than Pure stage 2 turbos but at less than $1500.
I show you the turbos in detail and also go over the install kit that I purchased.
I plan on installing these turbos in the next few weeks. I'll follow up with a dyno video and track video.
You can purchase these turbos here (affiliate):
ebay.to/2T78xUu
These are put together in the USA via a company called Dynamic Autowerks based out of Michigan. They've been in the turbo business for a number of years.
Here is a forum thread discussing these turbos:

This is at no extra cost to you so it's a win all around :) Thank you!
Hands down the best e90/92 N54 content on TH-cam. I didn’t even know these turbos existed and just assumed that pure stage 2 was the way to go for upgrading twins.
To the best of my understanding, as years go by and this platform matures, consumers will see less and less development costs. Years ago this stuff was premium but now there's so much information out there we dont have to pay as much or worry as much!
pure stage 2 still is the way to go for twins
riderthewake02 any information to back that up?
@@messi13578 i dont personally run pure but go amd look at pures record. Go and look and all the cars running them. If price is am issue pire just released a cast housing design for like 1600 or cheaper i forgot. Not knocking these but tried and true is what i and most people prefer. Companies like mmp, vtt, hell even some rb's have had countless issues. Ive yet to see pures fail outside of installation error. If you arnt apart of the forum spoolsteet id recommend checking it out. Tons of people running pures. Some people are running no names, or Chinese with actually decent results but customer service with pure is phenomenal. I mean if you just want turbos buy them but 8f yoy have any issues Goodluck talking with the company to sort oit any details. Pure will help out in a heart beat.
riderthewake02 these haven’t been around long enough and reviewed enough to make that assumption. If everything goes well with his set up, I’ll be getting these turbos. If not I’ll have to fork over the extra money for pure high flows.
I’ve got the ViV v3 and I swear they look exactly the same… even down to the wastegate actuator’s.
I think what they did was they bought Chyna turbos and they went in and swapped out the thrust bearing from turbo labs America and also the housing seal that he sells in the kit, and then just re-branded them.
I bought mine for 900, and bought the turbo labs kit and swapped out the thrust bearing myself. I’m installing them today.
Glad to see someone on TH-cam finally picking up these turbos (Dyamic Autowerks) after being underground on forums for the last 8 months.
Had these in my car for almost a year not issues spoke with owner for about 2hr really knowledgeable..... I was the first person in California to run these. Owner gave me the turbos he was making for his 335i to try out and I was really impressed.
way2legit 4u what you making bro ?? You have a Ig ??
Hearing you go into this project at 192K makes me feel alot better about my 184K lmao
I'll be tackling it soon at 230k.
I’m at 175K. Finally had to tear down my bottom end, I was finding metal shavings on my drain plug. I’m thinking it’s rod bearings but I should know here in a couple days.
However, after watching this, I think I probably need a new turbo stew, I keep going into limp mode after acceleration, I have to start and stop the car.
@@BVonBuescherthat’s vanos sensors
Wow I will have to get those turbos. 120k miles and no smoke and have been waiting for mine to blow. Tuned for only 20k though. Cannot wait for a install video and review. Keep up the good work!
These videos are amazing! Best n54 info by far. I use these in my vocational class.
I wish all how to videos were shot like this guys. Thank you so much! You made working on the car stress free.
I purchased a set of these turbos for my 2010 e92 335i back in Jan. 2019 and ran them HARD for about 6 months at 21psi (FBO + meth and 91 oct.) and loved them! I finally went custom single turbo only because these were leaking fluids from the oil and coolant lines. Completely my mistake because I used harbor freight o-rings which failed after about 4 months. After removing them, they had absolutely zero abnormal shaft play. I would definitely recommend these for a budget build - only make sure you use OEM o-rings! Im actually going to reuse my upgraded twins on my e61 build now!
edit: those are eBay turbos, all the sellers selling these 16t, 17t turbos are getting them from the same manufacturer in china and rebranding them. Mine were eBay and worked absolutely fine.
Which turbos did u have ? 16t? 17t or
Robles Inline 6 17t
Your videos are putting other bmw channels to shame. Keep it up!
I have been eyeballing these turbos for a while !! They seem very promising but no body has done a real review on them.. this its going to be very interesting!!
I got them and just installed it last week and BOY! my car trying to kill me lol.
@@vincenguyen5129very nice you got the cheaper ones ? any issues on install ? Smoke or rattle?
@@JR-si6ef I got the 17.5 the seller said 135i with my goal I don't need the stg3. no smoke nor rattle...been really good trying to get dial in for 25psi right now just 19psi.
Vince Nguyen what’s your ig?
Thanks for the information. I always wanted to try these but my stock turbos are still good at 127k miles. Once they blow I'm going with these. I'm doing all the work myself on the car so I don't mind testing these out. Keep us updated in the future with how they run, reliability and if you have too much lag compared to the stock turbos.
Glad you’re using the DAWs and getting them some more positive exposure. People assume the worst because they are priced well and sold on eBay they are junk, which they absolutely are not. I’ll be using these on mine as soon as I can.
Yeah the owner of the company has been awesome to deal with. Given the price and what you get they definitely deserve as much exposure as possible.
Old thread I know… but I’m about to buy a set of these as well, based on your vids.
Wow had no idea this channel existed finally a good source for n54 content! Cant wait to see how these work out long term hopefully I can get a set for my car.
Looking forward to the install video/videos as no doubt it will be the most detailed one on the internet
I can't wait for you to release your video on the installation of this.
ECS tuning has a really good install video, search for that too. But I agree, looking forward to seeing his version of the install!
Dude these are the turbos the big thread on E90 post were talking about being an actual good, cheaper aftermarket OE replacement.
Great video can’t wait for the Install video and results results. You should go straight to stage 3 XHP. I run it in my N54 E60 535xi and it’s awesome. Give it quite a while to adapt however, for the first week or so I didn’t really think it was much different than stage 2 but now the shifts feel awesome!
Ready to see the install soon, great content keep it up!
You can get a quick jack for $999.00 from Home Depot if open an account with them. 2” aluminum inlets might be your best bet. The outer diameter is not nearly as wide as one made from Silicone. If you take the old inlet bracket off the rear part of the block, that should clear a little room too.
For what ever reason, I have found that rear main seal oil additive does not work on BMW seals for the crank on either side.
Can't wait to see how this turns out. Was about to buy these because my turbos are leaking oil
I'm in the same boat. Just need them to last a couple more months...
Take a look at Frankenturbo they build them insanely well and they’re only 2k. Baseline they make 550 pushing 650 with more boltons
@@xanthopoulos1825 but they're just td03s with bigger wheels
I purchased vvto stage 1 turbos and I have a daily 535xi bmw but my car pushes around 700hp some times 800. And its an auto. Good cars
HUGE RESPECT to purchasing these and going against what countless forums have to say about 'ebay' turbos. YES you still have to do your research and find a reliable seller but here's my story.... I blew a turbo seal on one of my turbos and did not want to fork out a ton of money for new ones. I found a seller on ebay who sold direct replacement twins for my n54 and they have worked flawlessly so far. Mind you I've only put about 1700km on them but they are exactly like OEM. I stressed about it from the day I purchased them to the day I installed them. Now i'll see how long they last but I am less worried everyday because even out of the box they looked perfect. The seller I bought them from is called 'allforracing' and they are technically from 'JDM part Shop'
Cheers guys.
Im sold! Haha I’ll be getting these after your dyno results!
He dynoed at 537 whp on conservative tune. Btw it's too late all the turbos were sold stage 2 only stage 3 left. I was able to get the 775rs stage 2 as well
Cheaper and better than pure turbos? Sweet!
yup, I'm running them and so is my friend, pure's are WAY overpriced, these are better and cheaper
KyleLovesBass I ordered them the 775rs ones, what power and how they running bro,
@@merkushevusa9175 running perfect. Probably making 450whp on 91 pump gas. You can make way more with a better tune and better fuel but we dont have good gas in Canada. I just ordered the stage 4 model to make more power on our shitty pump gas out here
@@KyleLovesBass shit bro my phone broke that's the same me replying from my dads phone while mine coming in. Dang how much psi your pushing? We got e85 in here so hopefully to run 540 on e40 with my stage 2 fuel pump
KyleLovesBass how they running now?
i ran a 11.6 @ 119 with stock turbos, E50 21.5psi, but as soon as i put drag radials on , its not letting me launch , it goes from 2nd to 3rd as soon as the tires grip... contacted XHP and they said too much torque in 2nd gear... i dynoed at 441whp and 535 wtq at E40 map...so my advice is when u get a custom tune for these turbos, tell your tuner to lower the torque down low. Cant wait to see your results !
Silent11 N54 was your 11.6 on street tires? Second gear launch? My best was a 12.2 at 117 I’m running e50 fbo but my sixty foot is 2.0 any launch tips?
@@daltonstrause5021 i managed 1.8 60 foot a few times on my street tires, i have 275/30/19 michelin ps4s, it really depends on your tires, how bad they spin off the line. always second gear launch, and brake boost around 1500-2000 rpm... you probably spin off the line like everyone else, you just need to modulate the throttle until the tires hook, takes practice :) 11.6 was on drag radials but launch was bad, 1.9 60 foot, it shifted to third at 3500rpm.
what mods do you have? ran 11.6 with stock turbo i think is very very dificult? how you can do it?
Hey man just was wondering are you going to re update us about the turbos and how they are running or anything?
I have a single turbo kit on my n54 and pushing 673hp and automatic transmission has held up fine for 25k miles. If it goes out I can pick up another one for around 3 to 400 bucks from local junk yards.

They are coming out in mid summer with N55 turbo.

Nice video ! To many TH-camr are on the nuts 🥜 of all these expensive turbos!
My 2008 535xi will be due for new turbos and wastegates soon. I hope you will be showing us your installation steps. :)
I will be showing the install steps yes.
It should be considered that the limiting factor to achieve 600 HP is not the size of turbos and the boost level they are able to produce, but rather unwanted knock due to limited octane levels.
I'm planning on getting the Upgraded Tomioka Twins, 16t, capable of pushing 780hp
Those turbos will never make close to 780, don't believe everything you read.
@@davidnicholson8735 It will make 700 for sure easy
with a 43.4 x 52mm wheel which is smaller than these and other ebay variations I find that incredibly hard to believe. Tomioka is quoted saying that thier 19t turbos will produce 720whp and that's a far stretch at max effort on 100 e85. www.bimmerboost.com/content.php?11045-Tomioka-Racing-BMW-N54-15T-16T-and-19T-turbo-upgrade-available-offering-625-720-whp-for-1995-2995
This is a link with the information and a reference to this video. Everyone knows Tomioka's are Zage/VTT OG GC turbos with 11 blade wheels. Good fucking luck getting anywhere near 700whp.
Did all of the seals and copper nuts and bolts come with the purchase of those turbos? If not where would a person pick up that install turbo(s) kit? Awesome video.

So THATS what they mean when they say install kit... I was confused!
Great content as always, without doubt the best N54 videos on YT, bravo. I've been following the e90 post DAW (Dynamic Auto Werks) thread with interest for some time, these are most definitely on my radar to replace my rattly stock turbos when the time comes. I hope you'll be doing follow up videos including a trip to the dyno to see how well they perform?
Thanks! Yes I'll be following up with a dyno video and track video.
I was just reading that thread today, what a soap opera! Lol good info on there though, definitely following
any suggestion or advice would be greatly appreciated. My car has 70k and it’s smoke occasionally. Usually when the car is sitting at idle I get a big cloud of smoke or random on the freeway I see a cloud of smoke. It doesnt happen all the time. Usually more often with the weather is warmer outside. There also puddles of oil inside the exhaust tips. I do get the 30ff code but the o2 sensors also come on and off. One shop said it’s the valve stem seal and another saids it’s the turbos. At this point I don’t know who to believe. It is à expensive repair I don’t want to be ripped off by repair something that doesn’t need to be replaced. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated it
Good stuff man, good information on the turbos.
Ive got these too i hope to see how well they work soon
Nicholas Seetaram how did they end up working out?
Is there an option to get bigger turbo inlet snouts, so that when installing aftermarket inlets (relocated or stock location) that there will be more clamping surface?
Awesome video man I might go this route now!
Decided on Pure Stage 2 High Flows. Still up for meeting to compare the two cars. Take turns test driving. City Center is a good meeting place. I am doing dyno tuning Dec. 21st so it has to be after that date. Let me know.
Hey which turbos which I get for my 08 535i to get more horse power ?
Will you pull off the compressor housing and mic the wheels? They claim to be 44/57 and 17.5t but Vegasboy measured his 16t ebay turbos at 43.4/58. Another seller (VIV) claims 43/60, I might be going with them.
I have a question... the main downside of the OEM turbos are the wastegates right? So why when buying aftermarket turbos would you get one with oem wastegates again? Or am I missing something?
These come with OEM wastgegate actuators/diaphragms. The design flaw on the original turbos is the bushing in the exhaust housing gets worn. It's not the wastegate mechanism that is at fault. So they address the bushing issue with aftermarket turbos but it's beneficial to have the original vacuum box/diaphragm due to it being calibrated to the ECU. At least that is how I understand it.
@@VehicularDIY ah cool, thanks for the response.
Great content bro!
May i have an update on the turbos and wastegates?

Is that $1500 for both turbos? And did the install kit come with it or was that extra? Thanks for your videos. I think yours are the best, most detailed, and most informative.
Thanks, it's for both and the install kit is purchased separately.
Pretty sure these 750s or now 775s are assembled in the UK by a place called Turbo Technics which has been around for a long time and is very reputable. Check out their balancing videos! Can you please upload a review now they are installed? I'm interested in spool characteristics. Can you comment on how they behave relative to stock turbos at lower rpms? Imagine LSD will be an absolute must as you were breaking traction with e40 mix on stockers but perhaps that video was before you built the LSD.

Are these not available anymore? I went on their website and there is no mention of these.
you didn't give a link for your install kit
seems like you have a lot of play on that waste gate wheel
Nice! Can't wait to see your results with this.
Aside from the 2" inlets and install kit do you need any other supporting hardware?
As far as I know you just need 2" inlets and if you're still on stock outlets they might be a bit of a bottleneck and you may want to change them also.
I’d definitely step up to this when I need new turbos, too bad that I just installed 1.75” inlets. I’ll be looking forward to your impressions (try not to take as long as the LSD impressions lol). Can you also show your datazap charts to compare spool to the stock turbos?
Are you going for the stock location inlets or relocated? Thanks
Yeah going to install stock location 2" inlets.

Hey man! Love the content. You're my go to for any DIY stuff on this platform. Question for you, I'm looking for reliable 450whp daily driving my n54. Would you recommend these turbos over OEM for that application? I'm even thinking about dishing out the money to get a Single Top Mount with a conservative tune just for the ease of replacement, but if I can get 100k+ miles on these (I'm not hard on my car), I'd like to do this instead
Hey Thanks! Yeah making 450 WHP would be pushing stock turbos to the edge of their efficiency zone causing more heat and premature wear. I think a set of stage 2 turbos to make 450 WHP is reasonable as they'll be in their sweet spot. You could target around 17 psi. They are capable of 550 WHP if you ever decide to push things down the line.
How are they holding up?
What’s the difference between this Vargas turbos??? I’m in market for replacing my turbos. Please let me know ASAP brah!🏄🤙🏻 thanks! BTY I always like your awesome video.

You could push that much on automatic n54, that didn't make no sense that your not gonna be pushing that much. I've driven a 2007 335i that was Automatic and the guy was pushing between 500-550 horsepower with a single turbo. Unless you don't want to push that much.
